A man who shot and killed a woman and her daughter in West Palm Beach will pay for the crimes with his own life.
A judge sentenced Marlin Joseph to death for the killings of Kaladaa Crowell, 36, and 11-year-old Kyra Inglett.
“It’s not bitter, it’s not sweet, it’s neither one,” said Kevlin Fedrick, Kaladaa’s cousin. “We can’t get back what was taken from us.”
The shooting happened at a home on 3rd Street in West Palm Beach just days after Christmas in 2017.
Police said Joseph and Crowell had a heated argument about Kyra’s attitude just before the shooting.
Investigators said Joseph first shot and killed Crowell inside her home, then chased her daughter outside where he shot her.
Joseph, 29, received the death penalty for both murders, and 15 years in prison for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, court records show.
Fedrick described his cousin as a generous, and energetic person. He said her daughter was quiet, observant, and a sweet kid.
“Kyra did not deserve anything she got,” said Fedrick. “Whether she had to listen to the gun shots ring out or had to run, she did not deserve that.”
