Longtime Plant City residents remember the murder trial and death row sentence of former church deacon Sam Smithers, who was sentenced in the late 1990s for killing two prostitutes in Plant City.
In early 2016, Investigation Discovery will air an episode about Smithers and his case on “Deadly Sins” says Debbie Sullivan, a publicist for Investigation Discovery.
“It’s been filmed,” Sullivan said. “We were down there in early September.”
Smithers was convicted for killing Christy Cowan, 24, and Denise Roach, 31, between May 12 and May 28, 1996. He was arrested on May 28, 1996 and sentenced to death in June of 1999 on two counts of first-degree murder charges
