A Columbus woman was indicted on more charges, including four murder counts, for allegedly dosing men paying for sex with drugs to steal from them.

Rebbeca Auborn, 33, was originally indicted in September. The criminal complaint that led to her future indictment accused her of mixing fentanyl into a ‘John’s’ crack pipe

She reportedly confessed to a Columbus police detective that she engaged a man for sex with another woman and directed the other woman to dose the johns, the charging document for the original aggravated robbery charge filed in September said.

After being indicted for murder, felonious assault, corrupt others with a drug, and more, a grand jury on Wednesday returned a new indictment for three other murder charges for a total of:

four counts of murder
four counts of involuntary manslaughter
five counts of aggravated robbery
five counts of felonious assault
five counts of corrupting another with drugs
one count of tampering with evidence
four counts of trafficking in drugs

According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office:

Victim 1, attempted overdose on Dec. 13, 2022
Victim 2, fatal overdose on Jan. 15, 2023
Victim 3, fatal overdose on April 1, 2023
Victim 4, fatal overdose on April 13, 2023
Victim 5, fatal overdose on June 17, 2023

Investigators believe more victims may exist. Her alleged activities occurred in between December 2022 and August 2023 and within the area of I-71, State Route 161, Cleveland Avenue and E. 17th Avenue.

Anyone with information or who may have been a victim can contact the Columbus Division of Police homicide tip line at 614-645-2228.

Auborn has been incarcerated in the Franklin County jail since her original indictment. A court docket for that case indicated she was since hospitalized.

Rebecca Auborn Other News

Columbus police and the Ohio Attorney General’s office on Oct. 25 announced an indictment against Rebecca Auborn, a 33-year-old woman authorities say is a serial killer.

Here’s what we know about the case.
Who is Rebecca Auborn?

Auborn, 33, is from the Northeast Side of Columbus. She had no significant criminal history until earlier this year when police say she began meeting men for sex and drugging them in order to rob them.

Records show Auborn has at least one child and had a daughter who died at 18 days old in November 2016.

Authorities allege that Auborn met men for sex at hotels around Columbus, drugging them and then robbing them. The men died from fatal overdoses in at least four of those meetings. A fifth person survived, the attorney general’s office said.

According to the indictment, the fatal overdoses occurred on Jan. 15, April 1, April 13 and June 17. The person who survived met Auborn on Dec. 13.

The meetings are believed to have taken place at hotels on the Northeast Side of Columbus in the areas of Interstate 71, State Route 161, Cleveland Avenue and East 17th Avenue.

In September, authorities charged Auborn in connection with the Jan. 15 case that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man.

Court records from another case said Auborn admitted to detectives that she had mixed fentanyl in a man’s crack pipe after meeting him for sex. In that case, Auborn told detectives she knew the man was overdosing, but took his vehicle and debit card, according to court records.

In the indictment filed Wednesday, Rebecca Auborn is charged with four counts of murder and four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the deaths. She also faces five counts of aggravated robbery, five counts of felonious assault, five counts of corrupting another with drugs, one count of tampering with evidence and four counts of trafficking in drugs.

All of the charges are felonies.

Should Auborn be convicted on all charges, she faces decades in prison.

How did the investigation start?

The Ohio Attorney General’s office said in a press release the investigation began because of a tip received by the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force.

According to the AG’s office, that tip said a woman was meeting “johns” at hotels in Northeast Columbus and drugging them in order to steal their possession.

Police are continuing to investigate overdose deaths that occurred between December 2022 and August 2023 in the area bounded by Interstate 71, Route 161, Cleveland Avenue and East 17th Avenue.

What are police saying about the case?

Reached for comment Thursday morning, Columbus police said they are currently not providing interviews to any media outlets. However, authorities have asked that anyone with information to call a tip line at 614-645-2228.
What happens next in the case?

Rebecca Auborn will next appear in Franklin County Common Pleas Court for an arraignment, which is currently scheduled for Friday afternoon.

At that hearing, a judge will set bond in the case and Auborn is expected to enter a not guilty plea. The case will then have a trial date set.

Rebecca Auborn does not currently have a lawyer appointed to represent her, according to court records.

Robert Card Wanted For Maine Mass Shooting

robert card maine 1

A massive manhunt is taking place in Maine for Robert Card who is believed to be responsible for a mass shooting that left 22 people dead and others injured

According to initial reports Robert Card is alleged to have gone into the Schemengees Bar & Grill on Lincoln Street in Lewiston, Maine. Card would open fire with a automatic weapon killing twenty two people and injuring 30 others.

Robert Card who is a firearms instructor and a member of the Army reserves is to be considered extremely dangerous and armed. A large shelter in place has been issued for Lewiston Maine as hundreds of officers attempt to locate him and put him in custody

  • Robert Card would be found dead on October 27 2023 from a self inflicted gunshot. The death count for this horrible event is 18 people not 22 as earlier reported

Robert Card News

Audio from police scanners described a chaotic scene in Lewiston, Maine, where a male suspect carried out a mass shooting at the Schemengees Bar and Just-in-Time Bowling — which is better known by its former name Sparetime Recreation — miles apart, Wednesday evening leaving at least 22 people dead and 30 wounded.

The Lewiston Police Department said Wednesday night the suspect remains at-large and has identified Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin, Maine, as a person of interest. Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck said the shootings started at approximately 6:56 p.m.

According to audio from a police scanner, Lewiston police responded to calls of an “active shooter” at Schemengees Bar & Grill on Lincoln Street, at approximately 7:02 p.m. They initially reported just “six to eight” victims at the recreation center before additional units responded to the scene. “I need multiple units, or if there are multiple units at Schemengees to stay as there are multiple victims in a field north of Schemengees. We will update.”

As officers were responding to the bar, additional calls came in regarding a shooting just miles north at the bowling alley located on Mollison Way. The audio details multiple units responding to both locations, possible additional locations and ensuring enough ambulances were available to transport victims. Dispatch was also locating several police units to the hospital and to the airport.

The chaotic audio came as a male suspect opened fire at the bar and the bowling alley, prompting a massive manhunt. The two locations are located about four miles apart.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers are seeking Robert Card after Wednesday night’s shooting. A police bulletin identified him as a trained firearms instructor and said Robert Card is believed to be in the Army Reserve, assigned to a training facility in Saco, Maine.

Fox News’ David Spunt reported, citing a senior law enforcement source, that authorities are aware Card may have a police scanner and could be actively listening to some of their movements.

“My heart is crushed,” Schemengees Bar & Grill wrote on Facebook. “I am at a loss for words. In a split second your world gets turn upside down for no good reason. We loss great people in this community. How can we make any sense of this. Sending out prayers to everyone.”

Shelter-in-place orders are in place for Maine’s second-largest city and for nearby Lisbon.

The FBI has added dozens of agents to the scene over the past few hours to assist local law enforcement with the manhunt as well as victims services and counseling. SWAT teams are also on the ground and mobilized.

Robert Card Other News

A furious manhunt is underway after at least 16 people were killed and dozens injured in a mass shooting at a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine – with schools shuttered and people warned to stay indoors as more than 100 investigators and federal agents search for the killer, officials said

Robert Card, 40, is being sought as a person of interest in the attacks, Lewiston police said around 11 p.m. ET Wednesday, adding he “should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Robert Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserves, law enforcement officials in Maine told CNN. He had recently threatened to carry out a shooting at a National Guard facility in Saco, Maine, and reported mental health issues, including hearing voices, the officials said.

Some in the area are waking up Thursday to officers with long guns scouring their neighborhoods.

“Nerves are rattled right now – keeping an eye on the woods,” said Cory, a resident of nearby Lisbon, Maine, whose 10-year-old daughter was inside his home. “That actually made me feel better. Seeing the cops coming around here, that makes me feel a million times better.

“In the situation like this,” he told CNN, “I wish I had a firearm.”

Anyone who sees Robert Card should not approach him “or make contact with him in any way,” Maine’s Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck said late Wednesday.

At least 16 people are dead, law enforcement officials told CNN, in what appears to be the deadliest mass shooting of 2023 in the United States, adding to a grim docket of 565 such incidents reported this year across the country, with four or more shot excluding the shooter, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Lewiston City Councilor Robert McCarthy has backed off his assertion to CNN on air Wednesday night of a “confirmed” death toll of 22, now calling it “unconfirmed.” Law enforcement has not addressed the death toll on the record.

“It’s so surreal,” McCarthy said. “You just see it on the news and you say, ‘That’s never gonna happen here,’ and then it happens here, and it just blows your mind.”

Dozens more were injured, though it wasn’t immediately clear how many were hurt due to gunfire, the law enforcement sources told CNN.

By Thursday morning, the entire Lisbon Police Departure had been called in to hunt for the shooter and make sure businesses are closed, Chief Ryan McGee said.

“Right now, this is an active scene in Lisbon,” he told reporters.

Major Northeast grocery chain Hannaford Supermarkets is keeping all its Maine stores closed at least until 10 a.m., the company said. And public schools in Lewiston and Portland – the state’s largest district, with about 6,500 students – are closed, officials have said.

People in nearby Bowdoin, Maine, were advised early Thursday the shelter in place advisory and school closings would include their town, Maine State Police announced: “Please stay inside your homes while more than 100 investigators, both local and federal work to locate Robert Card who is a person of interest in the Lewiston shootings.”

“We want to locate the individual, make sure our community’s kept safe,” McGee said, “so biggest thing I can say is make sure that if the community sees anything, stay inside, don’t approach, call the police department – just like we did here just here. Someone heard something, they called: It’s the right thing to do.”

The rampage began shortly before 7 p.m. and fueled calls for everyone in Lewiston to shelter in place as hundreds of officers searched for the gunman. Lewiston police shared images of a man walking into what appears to be a bowling alley holding a high-powered, assault-style rifle.

The active shooting incidents were reported at Just-in-Time Recreation, a bowling alley on Mollison Way, and about 4 miles away at Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant on Lincoln Street, Lewiston Police said. Authorities initially identified the bowling alley by its prior name, Sparetime Recreation.

People ran away from Just-in-Time Recreation as police cruisers responded to the scene, video obtained by CNN shows. A person on a stretcher was loaded into an ambulance, another video from outside the bowling alley shows.

Central Maine Medical Center was “reacting to a mass casualty, mass shooter event,” and coordinating with area hospitals to take in patients, it said.

“There are multiple scenes in the city to include multiple hospitals, multiple follow ups, a lot of witnesses we’re speaking with and a lot of leads,” Sauschuck said. “The general public has been very cooperative, and very forthcoming with information.”

A “vehicle of interest” was found Wednesday night 8 miles from Lewiston in the town of Lisbon, prompting shelter-in-place-orders for that area as well, Sauschuck said.

Lewiston police earlier had shared an image of a small, white SUV with a front bumper that was believed to be painted black. Maine State Police confirmed to CNN the image is of the person of interest’s car.

President Joe Biden has spoken by phone with Maine lawmakers and “offered full federal support in the wake of this horrific attack,” the White House said in a statement.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline is “heartbroken for our city and our people,” he said. “Lewiston is known for our strength and grit and we will need both in the days to come.”

“Both of these locations last night are family locations,” Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce President Shanna Cox said Thursday as the community awaited work on the slain and injured. “It was family league activity at the bowling alley. The likeliness of this having direct impact for so many here is so real.”

Robert Card Suicide

The gunman in the mass shootings that killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, 40-year-old Robert Card, has been found dead, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday.

The body of the gunman was found by law enforcement near a recycling plant in the Lisbon area, multiple law enforcement sources confirmed to CBS News. Robert Card died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Mike Sauschuck, commissioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news conference Friday night.

Sauchuck said the body was located at about 7:45 p.m. local time near the Androscoggin River in Lisbon, a town about 8 miles southwest of Lewiston. Robert Card’s vehicle, a white Subaru Outback, had earlier been found abandoned by a boat launch on the river.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills told reporters that she called President Biden to inform him of Card being found dead.

“Like many people, I’m breathing a sigh of relief that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone,” Mills said.

In his own statement late Friday night, President Biden called it “a tragic two days – not just for Lewiston, Maine, but for our entire country.”

“Americans should not have to live like this,” Mr. Biden said. “I once again call on Republicans in Congress to fulfill their obligation to keep the American people safe. Until that day comes, I will continue to do everything in my power to end this gun violence epidemic. The Lewiston community – and all Americans – deserve nothing less.”

Hundreds of state and local police and federal agents had been involved in the manhunt since the shootings Wednesday night.

For several hours Thursday night, heavily armed police had surrounded a house in Bowdoin, a small town where the gunman was from, about 35 minutes from Lewiston, but they completed their search there without finding him.

On Friday, police announced divers were conducting underwater searches near the location where his vehicle was found abandoned.

Authorities had recovered a weapon from the gunman’s abandoned vehicle, law enforcement sources told CBS News’ Pat Milton and Robert Legare earlier Friday. The firearm was legally purchased, a law enforcement source confirmed. It wasn’t clear if the recovered weapon was used in the shooting.

CBS News had also learned that investigators had located the gunman’s cellphone and were trying to crack it and pore over his online activity, including text messages and emails, hoping to find clues as to his motive in the shootings.

The deadly rampage began a little before 7 p.m. Wednesday night when police received a 911 call about a shooting at Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley in Lewiston. Police later said six men and one woman there died of apparent gunshot wounds.

Just over 10 minutes later, at 7:08 p.m., police were called to the scene of another shooting a few miles away, at Schemengees Bar and Grille. Eight people there were killed, police said. Three other people died at area hospitals.

Police said the gunman fled in the aftermath of the shootings and they warned that he “should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Card, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, had recently reported experiencing mental health issues, including hearing voices, and threatened to shoot up a military base in Saco, a law enforcement bulletin seen by CBS News said. In July, he started “behaving erratically,” a New York Army National Guard spokesperson told CBS News, and he was committed to a mental health facility for two weeks.

Several communities in the area spent the days since the shooting under shelter-in-place warnings, with schools canceled and residents urged to stay indoors. The shelter-in-place orders were lifted earlier Friday.

“For me it was incomprehensible that this can happen in Lewiston, Maine,” Mayor Carl Sheline told CBS News Boston.

“Our city is facing this incredible loss and I am completely broken for our city, and my heart really goes out to the victims and their families right now,” Sheline said.

Investigators were looking into whether the gunman may have been targeting a specific individual, who is believed to be a current or former girlfriend, two U.S. officials and a former high-ranking official told CBS News. It wasn’t clear if she was at either of the two locations that were attacked.

The victims of the mass shooting ranged in age from 14 to 76, the medical examiner said. They included a bar manager who tried to stop the gunman; a bowling instructor who was teaching kids; a beloved father; a 14-year-old and his dad; and several people taking part in a cornhole tournament for deaf athletes.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement that “although we are grateful that the suspect in this case no longer poses a threat, we know that nothing can bring back the lives he stole or undo the terror he inflicted.”

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine issued a statement thanking “the brave first responders who worked night and day to find this killer.”

Joseph Czuba Murders 6 YR Old Boy

Joseph Czuba

A brutal murder is coming out of Illinois where Joseph Czuba has been charged with the murder of a six year old boy and the attempted murder of the child’s mother.

According to police reports Joseph Czuba, who is the landlord of the building, would brutally attack the six year old boy who was stabbed multiple times as well as the child’s mother. The mother was able to call 911 during the attack and emergency personel were quickly on the scene however the child’s injuries were so severe they were unable to save them

Along with the murder and attempted murder charges Joseph Czuba is also facing hate crimes as the reason behind the brutal attack was linked to the fact the victims were Muslims and Palestinian-American

Joseph Czuba remains in custody

Joseph Czuba News

A US landlord was charged with murder and hate crimes Sunday after allegedly stabbing a Muslim woman and six-year-old boy dozens of times in an attack that police linked to the war between Israel and Hamas.

The child, who was stabbed 26 times, died at hospital, but the 32-year-old woman, believed to be his mother, is expected to survive the “heinous” Saturday attack, according to a statement from the Will County sheriff’s office in Illinois.

“Detectives were able to determine that both victims in this brutal attack were targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the on-going Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis,” said the statement, which located the killing about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Chicago.

The sheriff’s office did not give further details or the victims’ nationality, but the Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) described the child as Palestinian-American.

Authorities said the woman managed to call 911 as she fought off the landlord, named by the sheriff’s office as 71-year-old Joseph Czuba.

“Deputies located two victims inside the residence in a bedroom. Both victims had multiple stab wounds to their chest, torso, and upper extremities,” the sheriff’s statement said.

A serrated military-style knife with a seven-inch blade was pulled from the boy’s abdomen during the autopsy, the statement said.

When police arrived they found Czuba sitting on the ground near the driveway of the residence with a laceration on his forehead. He was taken to hospital for treatment before being charged with murder, attempted murder, and two counts of hate crimes.

“He knocked on the door and attempted to choke her, and said, ‘you Muslims’ must die,” Ahmed Rehab, head of CAIR’s Chicago office, told reporters, citing text messages sent by the woman to the murdered boy’s father from her hospital bed.

The attack was “our worst nightmare,” CAIR said in a statement.

US President Joe Biden condemned the killing of the boy as a “horrific act of hate”, after authorities charged the man with murder and hate crimes for an attack allegedly linked to the war between Israel and Hamas.

Israel declared war on Hamas last Sunday, a day after waves of the Hamas fighters broke through the heavily fortified border and shot, stabbed and burned to death more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians.

The subsequent relentless bombing has flattened neighborhoods and left at least 2,670 people dead in the Gaza Strip, the majority ordinary Palestinians.

Hend Bustami Case

A 29-year-old woman from Nevada who piqued national interest last year when she claimed she was arrested for being “so good-looking,” may spend the rest of her life locked up after admitting to killing her own mother, stabbing the 61-year-old woman multiple times inside of the home they both shared. Hend Bustami appeared in Clark County District Court on Tuesday and formally pleaded guilty but mentally ill to one count of second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the slaying of Afaf Hussanen, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

As previously reported by Law&Crime, Bustami attacked her mother inside their Las Vegas home, then called 911 and calmly confessed to her murder before getting in her car and fleeing out of state.

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at approximately 2:34 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2022, responded to a 911 call about an injured person inside a residence on June Flower Drive. The caller — later identified as Bustami — requested medical assistance as she matter-of-factly stated that she’d just “murdered” her own mother.

“Do you need police, fire, or medical?” the 911 dispatcher said in the brief audio clip.

“Uh, medical,” Bustami responded, adding, “I think I killed my mommy.”

The dispatcher then asked the caller for her address, which the caller provided, before questioning her about her mother.

“Why do you think you killed your mom?” the dispatcher asked.

“Because I did. I murdered her,” Bustami replied.

“How did you do that?” asked the dispatcher.

“I broke the table on her head and I broke it,” Bustami appeared to say, though some parts of the audio are difficult to decipher.

When asked where she was calling from, Bustami tells the dispatcher that she is still at her mother’s home, and again offers to provide the dispatcher with the address before they return to the topic of killing her mother.

“Okay, what did you do to her?” the dispatcher asked.

“I killed her,” Bustami said, maintaining a monotone voice throughout the back-and-forth.

“How did you kill her, you said something about a table?” the dispatcher asked.

“I broke the table on her head. I broke the table on her head and I cut her neck off,” Bustami responds.

Upon arriving at the address, first responders found an unresponsive adult female — later identified as Hussanen — who appeared to have sustained “multiple lacerations,” police said. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators said evidence indicated the victim “was involved in a verbal dispute with her daughter” just before she sustained her fatal injuries. Authorities said Bustami killed her mother and fled the scene, leaving the state.

Not long after the victim’s body was discovered, officers with the Barstow Police Department and the California Highway Patrol located and detained Bustami in California. When authorities enacted a traffic stop, they said that Bustami was “covered in blood” and again admitted to killing her mother.

While speaking with investigators, Bustami said that she and her mother were fighting and she stabbed the older woman with “shards of glass” from a broken table.

The arrest for her mother’s murder was not Bustami’s first run-in with the law. She was previously arrested last summer at Harry Reid International Airport, which is when police say Bustami claimed her detainment was due to her being “so good looking.”

Authorities on Aug. 31, 2022, were called to the airport in regards to an adult female who left a Chili’s restaurant without paying her bill.

“[O]fficers working D gates were notified by TSA that [a] female matching that description was observed sleeping near the security checkpoint, hindering their operations,” a probable cause affidavit stated.

Bustami was later located near the baggage claim area and became “belligerent with officers, saying she was being harassed because cops [had] never seen anyone as pretty as her,” according to the affidavit. While being placed under arrest, Bustami allegedly said that “she was going to spit on all [the officers] and that officers were perverts and were trying to rape her because they [had] never seen anyone as good-looking,” police wrote.

Bustami is currently scheduled to appear in court for her sentencing hearing on Dec. 19 before Clark County District Court Judge Jacqueline M. Bluth. She is facing between 10 years to life in prison for second-degree murder.

Sydney Powell Murders Mother With A Frying Pan

Sydney Powell ohio

Sydney Powell was a nineteen year old teen killer from Ohio who would murder her mother with a frying pan and knife after it was discovered that Sydney was thrown out of school

According to court documents Sydney Powell father attempted to pay her tuition online at Mount Union University however he could not find his daughter’s name anywhere. Turns out Sydney failed three quarters of her classes and was expelled from the school however Powell would still live on Mount Union University campus for months until she was evicted. Then Powell lived in hotel rooms until her deception was found out by her parents

When Brenda Powell attempted to confront nineteen year old Sydney Powell about her deception the teen killer would attack her mother with a frying pan before stabbing her multiple times causing her death

Sydney Powell would be arrested and ultimately convicted of murder. Sydney will be sentenced later this week

Sydney Powell Case

An Ohio woman bludgeoned her mother with a frying pan and stabbed her dozens of times after her parents found out she was kicked out of college for poor grades.

Sydney Powell, 23, of Akron, was convicted last week of two counts of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence for the killing of 50-year-old Brenda Powell in the family’s home, according to the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office.

Sydney, who had been out on bail since her arraignment, sobbed when the jury verdict was read in Summit County Common Pleas Court. She was immediately taken into custody.

“We are disappointed with the jury’s verdict. We felt that the science overwhelmingly proved insanity, and we will file an appeal,” Sydney’s attorney, Donald Malarcik, told Fox News Digital.

On March 3, 2020, Sydney’s father, Steven Powell, could not access the portal to pay her tuition, setting in motion that afternoon’s deadly confrontation with her mother.

Sydney, then 19, confessed to her father that she had been expelled from Mount Union University and had been keeping it a secret for months, according to CourtTV.

She had failed three of her four classes in December 2019 but continued to live on campus and attend sorority meetings until school officials evicted her from her dorm on Feb. 24, 2020.

For a week, the young woman stayed in hotels rather than tell her parents the truth

After Steven told his wife about the weeks-long deceit, she returned home from her job at Akron Children’s Hospital as a child life specialist to discuss the matter with her daughter.

School officials testified that while they were on the phone with Brenda, they heard repeated thuds and screaming, then the call disconnected.

One of the officials tried to call back, and Sydney answered, pretending to be her mother. However, the official did not buy it and called police.

Prosecutors say that Sydney repeatedly beat her mother in the head with the cast-iron skillet then retrieved a steak knife and stabbed her nearly 30 times.

“She had to switch weapons and keep attacking her,” assistant prosecutor Brian Stano told jurors. “That is purposeful. That is trying to end someone.”

After the attack, Sydney shattered a window to stage a break-in, according to prosecutors.

When police arrived, Sydney Powell said an intruder had entered the house, that her mother told her to run and, upon her return, she found her mother on the floor.

Her attorneys admitted that Sydney killed her mother but argued that she suffered from schizophrenia and could not appreciate at that moment that her actions were wrong. Her father and grandmother testified on her behalf, but the jury rejected the insanity defense.

Sylvia O’Bradovich, a psychologist hired by prosecutors, acknowledged that Sydney suffered from mental illness but argued that she understood right from wrong when she brutally lashed out at her mother.
