Alphonso James was thirteen years old when he fatally shot an eighteen year old man in Elkhart Indiana. According to police Alphonso James and the victim had an argument over money and video games when the teen killer shot the victim several times. Alphonso James attempted to sell a story that the murder was in self defense however the evidence did not match his claim. Due to COVID 19 the trial was delayed however in 2020 Alphonso James was convicted of the murder and is due for sentencing soon.

An Elkhart teenager has been found guilty of murder by a judge after a bench trial.
16-year-old Alphonso James was accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Jaren Minies seven times in September of 2018, when he was 13 years old.
The shooting happened when James tried to buy an X-Box from Minies in exchange for a gun and some money.
James was initially charged in juvenile court, but was waived to to be tried as an adult. James will be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2021 in Elkhart Circuit Court.
