Kidd Creole Guilty Of Manslaughter

Rap pioneer Kidd Creole has been found guilty of manslaughter in the stabbing of a homeless man in New York City. According to court documents Kidd Creole whose real name is Nathaniel Glover would get into an argument with the victim, John Jolly, that ended with Kidd Creole fatally stabbing Jolly. Kidd Creole lawyers attempted to blame the hospital for the reason why John Jolly died however the prosecutor completely denied this theory. Kidd Creole who was part of the legendary group Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five will be sentenced in May 2022.

A Manhattan jury found rapper Kidd Creole guilty of manslaughter Wednesday in connection with the 2017 fatal stabbing of a homeless man on the street

The rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Glover, had gone on trial last month for the death of John Jolly, who was stabbed twice in the chest with a steak knife in midtown Manhattan in August 2017.

Prosecutors accused Glover, a founding member of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, of stabbing the other man after becoming enraged because he thought Jolly was gay and hitting on him.

Glover’s attorney said it was out of self-defense. An email seeking comment was sent to the rapper’s attorney.

Glover, who had faced a murder charge, is scheduled to be sentenced on May 4.

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five formed in the late 1970s in the Bronx. The group’s most well-known song is “The Message” from 1982. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, the first rap group to be included.

Nathaniel Glover, better known as Kidd Creole from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, has been found guilty of manslaughter in the first degree by a New York Supreme Court jury. In 2017, he was arrested and indicted after stabbing a homeless man to death in New York City. The victim, 55-year-old John Jolly, was a stranger. Glover is expected to be sentenced on May 4.

“Nathaniel Glover committed a shocking act of violence,” said District Attorney Bragg in a statement. “This conviction makes clear my office will hold people who commit violent crime accountable to the full extent of the law. I thank the members of the jury for their attention to this case and careful deliberation. I also applaud our prosecutors, whose diligence and tireless effort to ensure justice led to this conviction. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to deliver the safe streets and communities that New Yorkers deserve.” 

The original police report alleged that Glover stabbed Jolly twice in the torso on August 1, 2017 at East 44th Street and 3rd Avenue. Glover fled the scene to his place of work, where he changed clothes, and then disposed of the knife in a sewer. The victim was found by tourists and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
