Walter Ogrod

Walter Ogrod was convicted for sexually assaulting and bludgeoning to
death four-year-old Barbara Jean Horn, a neighbor. Ogrod killed Barbara
Jean on July 12, 1988 by luring her into the basement of his home in
Castor Gardens. The little girl, who lived across the street, thought
she was going inside to get candy. Instead, Ogrod tried to sexually
assault her. When she screamed, he hit her over the head with an iron
bar from a weight-lifting set. Ogrod placed Barbara Jean’s lifeless body
in a plastic bag, stuffed it into a cardboard television box and
carried the box around the corner to be taken out with the trash.

I noticed Walter Ogrod is featured in a recent Death Penalty Information Center news article. (I remembered his picture from reading this post).

If interested, here is the link to the Death Penalty Info article for more about Walter Ogrod’s current situation:

Ogrod’s Death Penalty case really bothers me.

I have worked with “disabled’ and autistic children and adults in the past.

    Ogrod is slightly “impaired”.
Which over 30 years ago, made him a sitting duck for a bully Prosecutor (who, after 4 years had not solved this little girl’s murder).

What follows is a collection of links to articles and vids that I’ve snipped to create a painfully long timeline of Prosecutorial Misconduct.

NEW District Attorney Larry Krasner allows DNA testing.
Walter’s DNA is NOT a match.

DA Larry Krasner called Ogrod’s case a “gross miscarriage of justice.”
Filed to vacate and free Walter Ogrod, now 55yo.

    Ogrod’s March court date postponed.

DA Larry Krasner filed emergency motion for Ogrod’s release to a hospital — citing a 103-106 degree fever, and difficulty breathing.

Judge Shelly Robins-New denied the request to expedite Ogrod’s release. She did not explain why.

Walter Ogrod remains on death row, pending his “possible” release in June.
