Brandi Sturdivant Other News

Greensboro woman whose three children died in a horrific house fire in 2022 was charged Monday with three counts of second-degree murder in connection with their deaths.

Brandi Sturdivant, already jailed on three counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in the case, is scheduled for an appearance on the new charges Tuesday in Guilford County District Court, according to a news release from the Greensboro Police Department.

The fire claimed the lives of Antonio Little Jr., 4, and Aerious and A’nyis, 1-year-old twin brothers, who had been left on their own inside the house when the fire started, authorities have said.

Police did not reveal the evidence that prompted the new charges, but Sgt. J.R. Waddell paid tribute to homicide investigators who brought the case together.

“Detective (Edward) Bruscino worked diligently with this investigation,” Waddell said in a news release.

The case shook the community and revealed stark shortcomings within the Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services’ division of Child Protective Services that led to state sanctions, then remedies by the agency.

Members of the community had complained to officials for years about Sturdivant’s alleged gross neglect of the children, yet the children were never permanently removed from the home, records show.

Essie Moffitt, grandmother to three of Sturdivant’s surviving children, said Monday night that she has compassion for Sturdivant.

“She’s not a monster, but she’s not the Brandi I knew,” Moffitt said. “I know she loved her children. We all make mistakes, we all make crazy mistakes, but she’s not at fault on her own.”

Moffitt explained that Sturdivant had suffered from mental illness since age 13 and was taking medication for her mental health problems at the time of the fire.

“I know her life has not been easy.”
The fire

First responders were called to 2518 Grimsley St. in Greensboro on the morning of Dec. 12, 2022, where they found the modest, single-story frame house engulfed in flames.

Desperate callers can be heard on recorded 911 calls from that morning, one woman grief-stricken because she believed the children were trapped in the house.

Guilford County Fire Department investigators and Guilford County EMS workers ultimately found the brothers deceased inside a bedroom of the tiny dwelling after the blaze was brought under control, authorities said.

Autopsies found the children died from carbon monoxide poisoning and showed cocaine in the bloodstream of Antonio Little Jr.

The three were siblings to three more of Sturdivant’s biological children, ages 8, 9, and 10 at the time of the fire.

A search warrant related to the case led to a discovery by a canine. The dog, trained to detect flammable liquids at fire scenes, signaled the presence of such material at five places inside the home, police said in 2022.

Investigators further confiscated a gas can, lighter, stove and two phones from the scene.

A review of the Guilford County Department of Social Services by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services found evidence of state policy violations and other deficiencies — problems that prompted the NCDHHS to order the agency in 2023 to remedy the problems.

In fact, investigators found an open case regarding Sturdivant and nine complaints about her filed since 2016 with the agency’s Child Protective Services division.

One complaint from November 2022 was still open at the time of the fire. It included allegations that Sturdivant had left her youngsters alone in the home, court documents showed.

A complaint from September 2022 that was closed by DSS by the time of the blaze, detailed that one of the twins was found with dried and fresh feces matted in his hair and on his body. The tot’s penis was injured and swollen due to severe diaper rash, an arrest warrant said.

At one point, Child Protective Services opened an investigation and created a “temporary safety plan” in which all of the children were removed from the home and placed with a relative. The agency returned the children to their mother eight days later.

Esperanza Rae Harding Murders Infant

Esperanza Rae Harding minnesota

Esperanza Rae Harding is an alleged killer from Minnesota who is charged with the murder of her seven month old son

According to police reports Esperanza Rae Harding was taking a bath when the seven month old infant started to cry. Instead of trying to comfort the infant Harding would drown him in the bathtub then dispose of the body by throwing it into a dumpster

Esperanza Rae Harding would be arrested and has been charged with murder

Esperanza Rae Harding News

A Lino Lakes, Minnesota mother faces murder charges after allegedly drowning her child in a bathtub then throwing the child’s body into a dumpster at a hotel, according to court records.

Esperanza Rae Harding, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder and murder in Hennepin County for the death of her child, though authorities have not located the body nor indicated how old the child was.

Court records allege that on March 6, 2024, officers with the Minneapolis Police Department responded to reports of a missing child call at the Children’s Hospital.

When officers arrived, they spoke with Harding, who claimed her child died of natural causes in the hospital on March 1.

Hospital officials told police there was no record of the child being admitted or dying at the hospital, and the Medical Examiner’s Office did not have record of the victim, court documents allege.

Police said Harding eventually admitted that her child died at a hotel in Bloomington on Feb. 28, 2024, not at the hospital.

She allegedly said her child died in the bathtub, and afterward, she wrapped the body up and threw it in a dumpster.

Bloomington police officers also interviewed Harding after being brought into the case because of the location of the crime.

During the interview, police claim, Harding told investigators she was dating 18-year-old Edwin Trudeau, who did not like the child, telling her to put the child up for adoption.

Harding told officers Trudeau wanted her to put the child up for adoption to prove he was her top priority, not the child, court documents allege.

On Feb. 28, Harding was alone in a hotel room in Bloomington and taking a bath when her child, who was in the other room, started crying.

Harding told police she became upset because she was unable to enjoy the bath. So, she went into the other room, picked up the child and drowned the child in the bathtub.

She then took a picture of the child floating face down in the tub, police said, which has since been recovered from her phone.

Harding allegedly texted with Trudeau during the incident, and police said the texts have since been recovered.

During the texts, Harding allegedly told Trudeau she was about to do something bad, adding her child would not be there much longer.

A little bit later, she allegedly told Trudeau her child was going to die, then two minutes later, she said her child was dead.

Police said Harding sent additional texts in which she referred to herself as “a monster” for what she did, while also asking Trudeau how to get away with the crime.

Trudeau went to the hotel room once the child was dead, Harding told investigators, and after failing to resuscitate the child with CPR, the two had sex in the other room while the child’s motionless body was on the floor of the bathroom.

Afterward, she allegedly told investigators, Harding wrapped the child up, placed the body in a backpack and threw the child into a dumpster at the hotel.

The body has yet to be recovered.

Harding also allegedly told investigators Trudeau kept telling her to keep her mouth shut and that they had to get out of the situation.

“If you go down, I go down, no matter what,” Trudeau allegedly told Harding. “It is always going to be us, Bonnie and Clyde.”

Trudeau was charged with murder and aiding an offender after the fact.

Harding and Trudeau have both been booked into the Hennepin County Jail. Harding is being held on $1,500,000 bond, while Trudeau is being held on $500,000 bond.

Terry Rivera News

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Friday morning that his deputies are working “around the clock” to find the man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend’s 12-year-old son.

Terry Bryan Rivera, 27, has been charged with capital murder in connection to the shooting death of 12-year-old Carlos Fernandez, according to the sheriff.

“He’s still on the run, he’s still wanted for capital murder,” Gonzalez said. “We’re not going to rest until we find him.”

The shooting happened Monday around 3 a.m. at an apartment in the Cloverleaf area on Alderson Street near Freeport Street.

Originally, officials said Fernandez was sleeping in his bedroom with his two younger half-sisters, ages 6 and 7, when someone walked up to their bedroom window and fired shots. On Friday, Gonzalez clarified that the boy was actually sleeping in the living room and had ran to check on his sisters when he heard noises coming from their bedroom. The sheriff called the boy a hero.

“He ran to the danger,” Gonzalez said. “He ran to check on his sisters, 6 and 7 years old, to protect them. And in some ways, he did because that bullet could have easily injured one of them.”

Fernandez was killed. The boy’s sisters were not hurt. Neither was his mom and another man who was also inside the apartment.

The sheriff’s office told KHOU 11 News they were investigating Rivera for a family-violence incident that occurred on March 1, a few days before Fernandez died. Gonzalez said Rivera had a gun at the time and had assaulted the boy’s mother.

No charges were filed because it was still an open case with the family violence department, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said they were able to recover the grey pickup truck believed to be used by Rivera when the shooting happened.

The sheriff warned that anyone attempting to hide Rivera could also face charges.

“We want to make sure that we do everything possible to capture this coward, the individual that would take this beautiful life from us,” Gonzalez said. “We also want to send a very strong message to anyone that may be hiding him out or assisting him that you too will be filed on.”

Rivera should be considered armed and dangerous, according to Gonzalez.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office homicide unit or Crime Stoppers.
