The suspected drunk driver accused of killing NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, in Salem County, New Jersey, remains behind bars on a slew of charges, including vehicular homicide.

The crash happened Thursday around 8:30 p.m. on Pennsville Auburn Road (County Route 551) near Stumpy Lane in Oldmans Township.

Police say Sean Higgins, 43, of Woodstown, was traveling north on Pennsville Auburn Road in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he allegedly attempted to pass a slower-moving sedan and SUV.

Police say Higgins entered the southbound lane of the roadway and passed the sedan

When he attempted to reenter the northbound lane, police say the SUV in front of him moved into the middle of the roadway, splitting the north and south lanes in order to safely pass two bicyclists on the right side of the road.

Higgins then attempted to pass the SUV on the right and struck the Gaudreau brothers from behind, troopers said.

The Gaudreau brothers died from their injuries, according to state police.

According to the police affidavit, the trooper who arrived on the scene detected a “strong odor of alcohol,” and Higgins allegedly told the trooper he had consumed “five to six beers” before the crash.

Higgins allegedly told investigators that he thought the driver of the SUV was trying to stop him from passing. Higgins told investigators that his consumption of alcohol contributed to his impatience and reckless driving, according to the criminal complaint.

Witnesses reportedly told police that they observed Higgins approaching them from behind, adding that he appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed.

The trooper also said Higgins then failed a field sobriety test.

Action News has learned that Higgins is a field artillery officer assigned to the New Jersey Army National Guard, Joint Force Headquarters. He is a part-time traditional Drill Status Guardsman and was not on duty at the time of the incident.

The New Jersey Army National Guard could not comment on Higgins’ service, but released this statement on the deadly crash: “We are profoundly saddened by this tragedy,” said Col Yvonne L. Mays, Acting Adjutant General of New Jersey. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected, and we share in the grief of the Gaudreau family.”

In a post on Facebook, Gaudenzia, a drug and alcohol abuse treatment provider, identified Higgins as an employee but said that he had been immediately placed on leave.

During Friday’s first appearance hearing, Judge Michael Silvanio explained to Higgins the charges against him, adding that two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Other charges include reckless driving, possession of an open container, improper passing and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Higgins is being held at Salem County Correctional Facility, where he will remain until a detention hearing on Sept. 5.

On Friday, he made an initial court appearance via Zoom.

He spoke briefly to say he understood the charges and would be hiring his own attorney.

As he was being excused from the court, he did question how long he was staying behind bars: “So…I’m here until Thursday?”

The Gaudreau brothers were riding their bicycles, not far from their family home, when they were struck and killed. The Gaudreau family had gathered in Salem County to attend the wedding of the men’s sister, Katie, which had been scheduled for Friday. The event was canceled.

The widow of Johnny paid tribute to him in a pair of social media posts on Saturday, calling him her “forever” and praising him as the “best dad” to their young children.

Meredith Gaudreau also shared family photos of her late husband celebrating his 31st birthday earlier in August with her, daughter Noa and son Johnny.

“Thank you for the best years of my life. Despite losing you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been yours,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I love you so so much. You were perfect. Some days it felt too good to be true. I love every single thing about you. You are my forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever.”

Matthew Gaudreau, 29, was the hockey coach at the men’s high school alma mater, Gloucester Catholic in New Jersey, and he also was an expectant father. His wife, Madeline, is expecting their first child in December.

The brothers also leave behind their parents and two sisters.

Johnny and Matthew played hockey at Boston College.

After playing for teams in the AHL and ECHL, Matthew returned home to South Jersey, where he served as the head hockey coach at Gloucester Catholic.

Johnny went on to play 11 professional seasons for the NHL, starting his career with the Calgary Flames and most recently playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Tammy Sytch News

Former WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Monday for causing the death of a man while driving drunk.

The 50-year-old Sytch was also sentenced to eight years probation after her jail time is complete.

Sytch pleaded no contest to eight charges in August: one count of DUI manslaughter; driving while license suspended with death; four counts of DUI with damage to person; and two counts of DUI with damage to property.

Authorities said on March 25, 2022, two vehicles were stopped at a traffic signal in Ormond Beach, Fla. A third vehicle was traveling in the same southbound direction on U.S. Highway 1 and failed to stop and crashed into one of the stopped vehicles, which caused that vehicle to then crash into the other vehicle in front of it.

The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Julian Lasseter, who was pronounced dead at a hospital. The driver and passengers in the third vehicle suffered injuries but did not go to a hospital. Sytch’s blood-alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit for the state of Florida.

Sytch was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011 and had several previous drunk-driving arrests. She served eight months in jail for a DUI in 2018 and was charged in January 2022 with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of terroristic threats.

Sytch apologized to Lassiter’s family during her sentencing.

“A precious life was lost that tragic day and I’m so incredibly sorry for that,” Sytch said. “I would ask that you give me the opportunity to atone for what I’ve done and then to be released to society to contribute to it in the most positive way possible.

After a brief chase Officers would pull Nick Hogan over and noticed a very strong smell of alcohol on his breath. Hogan refused to take a breathalyzer and would fail field sobriety tests

Nick Hogan would be arrested and charged with DUI

Back in 2007 Nick Hogan was driving drunk and would severely injure himself and a friend. The friend who will spend the rest of his life being cared for due to the injuries would sue Nick Hogan and would settle for 1.5 million. In that case Hogan would plead guilty to reckless driving and was sentenced to eight months in prison

Nick Hogan Case

Nick Hogan, son of the wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, was arrested in Clearwater on a charge of driving under the influence, according to police.

An arrest affidavit said at about 1:18 a.m. Saturday morning, officers who were conducting a stop on Gulf to Bay Boulevard spotted a Dodge Ram that was approaching them in a separate lane.

An officer used his flashlight to signal to Nick Hogan, whose legal name is Nicholas Bollea, that he must move another lane over and slow down, but police say that he did neither.

The Clearwater Police Department said another officer detected that the vehicle was speeding at 51 mph in a 40-mph zone on his in-car radar.

When Bollea was pulled over for a violation of the Move Over Law, officers said he showed signs of impairment, saying he was swaying and unsteady, had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” and had bloodshot, glassy eyes.

According to police, he refused to take a breathalyzer test but failed field sobriety tests.

Bollea previously made headlines in the late 2000s when he, at the age of 17, was involved in a serious crash that left him and his friend, John Graziano, in Bayfront Hospital on Aug. 26, 2007. This incident also happened in Clearwater.

According to Sam & Ash Injury Law, Bollea pled no contest to a charge of reckless driving in May 2008, getting a sentence of eight months in the county jail and five years of probation.

Graziano’s family also sued Bollea and Hulk Hogan for the victim’s injuries, which left him paralyzed and in need of nursing care for the rest of his life. The lawsuit ended in a $1.5 million settlement, the law firm said.

Kate Major Charged With 3rd DUI

Kate Major mugshot

Kate Major the stepmother of actress Lindsay Lohan has been arrested and charged with DUI for the third time. According to police reports Kate Major was arrested after officers saw her sitting in a Target parking lot at 2am in the morning and when officers approached her she was reeking of booze. Unfortunately for Kate Major the car was running which makes it a DUI. Kate Major was previously arrested for DUI in 2020 in New York and 2014 in Florida.

Kate Major More News

Lindsay Lohan’s stepmom and her father Michael Lohan’s estranged wife, Kate Major, has been arrested and charged with her third DUI.

Major, 40, was charged in Shenandoah, Texas, last month after police spotted her in the parking lot of a shopping center at 2AM as she sat in her idling car and ‘reeked of booze’ according to TMZ.

The former showbiz reporter – who filed for legal separation from Lindsay’s father, 62, in 2015 – reportedly told law enforcement she was driving around and trying to find a friend that she’d argued with.

Major reportedly underwent field sobriety testing, which she failed, prompting the officer to arrest her for felony DWI.

She was charged with a felony due to having two prior convictions for driving while intoxicated.

Major was previously arrested in 2020 in New York, and earlier in 2014 in Florida

In 2020 Michael was arrested and charged for allegedly choking Kate and harassing her, though the choking charge was later dropped.

‘I did not touch her, I wasn’t near her, this is just a lie,’ Michael told DailyMail.com just after he was released from custody on Tuesday February 11 in Southampton, New York.

Michael claimed that the assault and choking accusations were fabricated by his wife, in retaliation for the fact that he called the police on her, leading to her arrest for driving under the influence on February 9th.

‘This is all in retaliation to me getting her arrested for DWI. That’s all it is,’ he claimed.

In lieu of jail time or probation he entered a ‘limited protective order’ with respect to Kate – meaning he can be in contact with her, but ‘must not threaten, harass or abuse her’ in any way.

Major legally separated from Michael in 2015, after claiming he tried to sabotage her time in rehab.

At the time she alleged that Michael smuggled a cellphone to her, hidden inside a teddy bear – breaking strict rules on patients not having phones

hat same year she was arrested for ‘drunkenly attacking’ Michael at their Florida home.

The two have been married since 2014, and share two sons – Landon, nine, and Logan, seven – together.

In 2015, the couple lost custody of their children and were only allowed supervised visits and were also ordered to take anger management classes.

Lohan was previously married to Lindsay’s mom Dina from 1985 until 2007.

The two share four children together: daughters Lindsay, 36, and Aliana, 29, and sons Michael, 35, and Cody, 26.

According to police documents Hope Solo was pulled over in Winston-Salem, North Carolina after she was observed weaving all over the road. Now a DUI arrest would have been bad enough but Hope Solo was not done there as she had her twins in the back seat and to make matters worse she resisted arrest.

Hope Solo has been arrested for alcohol related charges in the past as she was arrested after being intoxicated and allegedly assaulting her sister and nephew however after numerous appeals the charges were eventually dropped. Hope Solo was brought to the police station and was released right away so something fishy is going on.

Hope Solo More News

Soccer legend Hope Solo was arrested Thursday in North Carolina for allegedly driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

Officers arrested Solo in the parking lot of a business located at 3475 Parkway Village Circle in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, according to Kira Boyd, a public information officer with the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Solo is charged with impaired driving (DWI), resisting arrest and misdemeanor child abuse.  Boyd said Solo had her two children in the car with her at the time of the incident.

Rich Nichols, Solo’s legal counsel, provided a statement to TMZ Friday saying “On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.”

The former soccer star has faced issues with the law before. In 2014, Solo tried to avoid a trial on misdemeanor domestic violence charges after an incident at her sister’s home, when the was accused of being intoxicated and assaulting her sister and 17-year-old nephew.  Solo said she was a victim in the altercation. In 2016, an appeals court in Washington state rejected Solo’s request to avoid trial. But the charges were dropped in 2018 after a lengthy appeals process, according to FOX11 Los Angeles and FOX Business.

Solo played for the U.S. national team from 2000 to 2016.  She won an Olympic gold in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London. She was also a member of the team when the squad won silver and bronze in the 2011 and 2007 World Cups, FOX Business reported.
