Toronto police have identified a suspect in an apparent random assault on the Danforth that resulted in a former CBC journalist dying from injuries sustained in the attack.

Police were called to the area of Danforth and Jones avenues on the afternoon of Jan. 24. Investigators said a male suspect was walking along the Danforth when they encountered another man and assaulted him. The victim fell to the ground and sustained serious injuries.

Toronto’s homicide unit confirmed on Friday that longtime CBC radio producer, 73-year-old (Douglas) Michael Finlay, died on Tuesday due to medical complications stemming from what officers called a “random assault.”

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Robert Robin Cropearedwolf of Toronto, fled the scene. He’s wanted for manslaughter and is being urged to turn himself in.

Police said on Friday that officers believe both men did not know each other, noting it’s likely a random attack.

“It’s a chance encounter on the Danforth resulting in an assault,” Toronto homicide detective Jason Hillier said.

A man with the same name, Robert Robin Cropearedwolf, who was 38 at the time, was wanted in 2017 for a series of break-and-enters in Toronto that netted over $2 million in jewelry, cash and electronics. Toronto police have not confirmed whether it’s the same man.

The assault on Finlay was the latest in a series of violent attacks in Toronto, which prompted the city’s mayor to call for a nationwide summit last week to address the mental health crisis in municipalities across the country

A former employee with the CBC told CityNews that the victim of the assault was released from the hospital following the attack and then suffered a cardiac arrest at home.

Cathy Perry, the network’s executive director of newsgathering and operations, said Finlay “will be remembered as an exceptional storyteller, documentary-maker and editor.”

“If you worked on a documentary with Michael, you were experiencing the pinnacle of the craft.”

Malcolm Morrison, a former reporter at The Canadian Press and a longtime friend of Finlay, said he and everyone who knew Finlay were “absolutely shattered” upon hearing the news of his death.

“This is very, very unfair, and what to say, except the guy deserved a lot better and all of his friends, we all just hope that the person who did this gets caught before he does something like this to somebody else,” he said.

8 Teen Girls Charged In Swarming Murder In Toronto

Toronto

Eight teen girls have been charged in a swarming murder that took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. According to police reports the eight teen girls, three 13- year-olds, three 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds, were apparently after a liquor bottle and when the victim stood up for his friend he would be brutally attacked ending in his death. Toronto police have charged the eight teen girls with second degree murder. Due to Canadian law regarding juveniles the longest sentence they can receive is a life sentence where parole eligibility is after seven years. Again due to Canadian laws the identity of the eight teen girls will not be made public

Toronto murders have been in the global news over the last few days with the last being a disgruntled condo owner who would shoot and kill five people before being shot dead by police. Of course to put this in perspective Toronto is the fourth largest city in North America behind Mexico City, New York City and Los Angeles. Toronto has had a total of 68 murders this year.

Swarming Murder In Toronto More News

An alleged “swarming” attack in Toronto started when the eight teen girls charged in the slaying tried to take a liquor bottle from the victim and his friend, the friend says.

That witness, who CBC Toronto has agreed not to name because they belong to a vulnerable community, said she was smoking a cigarette with the man outside a downtown shelter early Sunday when the group of teens approached them and attempted to take her alcohol.

The 59-year-old victim, who police have not publicly identified, told the girls to leave the two of them alone, the woman said.

“He protected me,” she added.

That’s when the group of girls started to punch him repeatedly, she recalled. Frightened by the violence, she walked away while one of the girls followed her. She said she could see lots of blood.

“Bleeding, bleeding, bleeding. I didn’t know if they had a knife or what. I was just scared,” she said. “I think they stabbed his belly.”

She said she went into the shelter and brought him water afterwards. “I didn’t know he would die,” she said.

In an interview Wednesday, Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Terry Browne said investigators believe there was an attempted theft — “likely of a liquor bottle” — during the initial phase of the deadly encounter.

“I don’t want to expand on that because we don’t have all the moving parts right now. But we do believe that does form part of the narrative involved in this,” he said.

The attack happened around 12:15 a.m. ET near the corner of York Street and University Avenue, just steps from Union Station. The victim was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Browne, who has been a homicide detective for 19 years, called it a “shocking” killing and said it is unlike anything he’s investigated before.

“I can’t recall a situation where eight females have been involved in something like this.

At a news conference Tuesday, Browne said the victim was beaten and stabbed by the group, which included three 13- year-olds, three 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds. All eight have been charged with second-degree murder. Their identities are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Browne said police chose to charge all eight with second-degree murder because each girl “played a role” in the slaying.

“All eight were together. All eight were involved,” he said Wednesday. ” I won’t say what each one individually did, but all eight were together and participating in this event, which is disturbing.”

Police are operating under the assumption that the girls met on social media, Browne said, but it’s not yet clear how or why they ended up downtown late Saturday and into Sunday morning. They all live in different parts of the city, he said.

Three had had “prior contact” with police, he added. Investigators have no evidence that the victim was known to them, Browne said

Police have spoken to the parents of each of the teens, he told CBC Toronto.

“As you can probably imagine, everyone was shocked. Probably like getting hit by a Mack truck.”

The fatal swarming was preceded by an earlier incident involving the girls that Browne only described as “criminal activity.” Police arrested all eight when they responded to a third incident shortly after the swarming and “pieced together the dots” that the group had been involved in all three.

All of the teens appeared in court on the weekend, with further court appearances scheduled for Dec. 29.

Browne said police wouldn’t describe the girls as a gang at this point, but investigators are calling the incident a “swarming,” which he said normally involves selecting a target to victimize. Swarming was more prevalent in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Browne said, and “primarily involved young adolescent males finding themselves in conflict.”

As of Wednesday morning, police were still trying to contact the victim’s elderly parents, he said. Once that has been done, his identity will be released publicly.

Browne said the man had only recently entered into the city’s shelter system and that he had supportive extended family in the area.

“I wouldn’t necessarily call him homeless, just recently on some hard luck,” Browne said.

His death was the 68th homicide in Toronto in 2022.

Toronto Mayor John Tory said in a statement that he is “deeply disturbed” by the details of the case.

“Everyone in our city deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I am so saddened to know that a man has lost his life in this way,” he said.

“I am extremely troubled by the young age of those accused and by the number of people allegedly involved in this murder. My thoughts are with this man’s friends and all those who knew him as they mourn his loss,” he added.

Police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area of the attack between about 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

Dallas Ly Charged In Mothers Murder

Dallas Ly

Dallas Ly is a twenty year old man from Toronto Ontario Canada who has just been charged with his mother, Tien Ly, murder. According to police sources the body of Tien Ly was found in a garbage bag earlier this week. The garbage bag was seen brought to the scene by a collapsible shopping cart by an unidentified man believed to be Dallas Ly. The body of Tien Ly had been dismembered and the woman was identified by her unique nail designs. Dallas Ly has been arrested and charged with Tien Ly murder.

Dallas Ly More News

Toronto police have identified a woman found dead in a black garbage bag in Leslieville this week.

Police said on Wednesday the body found near Eastern and Berkshire avenues on Monday was that of Tien Ly, 46, of Toronto. The body was left near a sidewalk on the south side of Eastern Avenue, west of Leslie Street.

The person who discovered the bag called 911 at about 1:30 p.m. Police believe someone used a collapsible shopping cart to move the body, which they say showed obvious signs of trauma and dismemberment. The case is considered a homicide.

Police also said they cannot locate Ly’s son, Dallas Ly, 20, and are concerned for his well-being. They said he is not a suspect.

Police believe he lived with his mother in a condo building near Carlaw Avenue and Dundas Avenue East, according to Const. Alex Li, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service.

“Officers are concerned because of what they found at the residence,” Li said.

Li said he has a message for Dallas Ly: “Please contact Toronto police immediately. We want to speak with you… It is very unfortunate that this incident has occurred, but … you are an important part of this case. And we need to find you.”

On Tuesday, police released images of Tien Ly’s fingernails and toenails, which were painted with a unique pattern, and images of the long-sleeved, red Armani Exchange shirt she was wearing.

Investigators released them hoping the public could help police to identify her. Li said police appreciated the support they received.

“In this case, we were successful in confirming the identity,” he said.

Ly is Toronto’s 17th homicide victim of the year.

On Tuesday, police also urged anyone who saw a person pushing a foldable shopping cart filled with black garbage bags between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday to come forward. And they want anyone who was driving eastbound or westbound on Eastern Avenue at that time and who has dashboard camera video to contact them.

Cory Fenn Found Guilty Of 3 Murders

cory fenn ajax

Cory Fenn has been found guilty of the murders of a mother and her two children. According to court documents Cory Fenn was mad that Krassimira Pejcinovski had broken up with him and Fenn responded violently. Cory Fenn would fatally stab Krassimira Pejcinovski and her 13 year old daughter Venellia before strangling to death her 14 year old son Roy. Cory Fenn tried to blame the triple murder on a five day cocaine binge however the jury was not buying it. Cory Fenn is now due for sentencing where he will face a minimum of twenty five years to life in prison

Cory Fenn More News

An Ontario man has been found guilty of three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of a woman and two of her children east of Toronto, with the presiding judge calling the attacks “vicious and brutal.”

70c8fc80

Cory Fenn had pleaded not guilty to three counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of 39-year-old Krassimira Pejcinovski, her 13-year-old daughter, Venellia, and her 14-year-old son, Roy.

Justice Howard Leibowich did not buy Fenn’s argument that he was in a state of psychosis at the time brought on by a five-day cocaine binge.

“Vicious and brutal are some of the descriptors I can use to describe the attacks,” Leibowich told court in his ruling on Thursday.

The prosecution had said Fenn killed all three in a rage on March 14, 2018, in Ajax, Ont., after Krassimira Pejcinovski broke up with him. The mother and her daughter were found stabbed to death, while the boy was strangled.

Fenn argued he did not have the mental ability to commit the crimes, but did not call a defence.

A court-appointed lawyer assisting Fenn said the man killed all three, but argued he did not have the requisite state of mind to commit murder due to his extensive use of cocaine, rendering him in a psychotic state at the time.

Court heard that Fenn and Pejcinovski had an on-again, off-again relationship while Fenn lived in the basement of Pejcinovski’s home.

“Mr. Fenn and Krissy were involved in an unhealthy, toxic relationship,” Liebowich said.

The Crown said Pejcinovski’s oldest daughter, Victoria, who was 16 at the time, had found cocaine on the stove the day before the deaths. She confronted her mother and told her Fenn had to go, she testified. Krassimira Pejcinovski agreed and said she would break up with Fenn.

Pejcinovski spent much of that night in the basement with Fenn, which she often did in the past, court heard, the pair snorting cocaine together.

Her oldest daughter left around 9:30 p.m. to go to her father’s home and told court she became worried when her mother failed to pick her up for a driving lesson the following morning.

When her mother failed to respond to text messages, she called her younger sister, who was in her bedroom with her friend for a sleepover, court heard. Vana, as she was known, left the room to go check on her mom, court heard.

Shortly after that, the Crown said, Fenn attacked the girl, leaving her eyes blackened, stabbed her with a butter knife and stuffed her body under a bed.

The friend who was in the home for the sleepover testified she heard Fenn coming up the stairs, breathing heavily. He asked her where Victoria was, before turning around returning downstairs, leaving her unharmed

Shortly afterward, Krissy Pejcinovski’s boss showed up, worried after her employee had failed to show up to work.

Sherry Robinson testified she noticed blood on Fenn’s arms and foot. She left, drove down the street and called police.

Fenn took off in his car, which he later ditched at a gas station, and went to an ex’s place. Police found him later that day hiding in a shed.

Pejcinovski suffered multiple fractures to her skull and jaw, had 17 fractured ribs and extensive bruising across her face, neck, torso and limbs, court heard. When she kept breathing after an attempted strangulation in the garage, Fenn left to grab a knife and returned.

The judge said he did know the reason of Fenn’s attack on Pejcinovski, but that the motive did not matter.

“Mr. Fenn had the state of mind that when his initial method was not accomplishing his goal, he went to get a knife to finish the job,” the judge said.

The judge found that Fenn had killed Pejcinovski and Roy by 5 a.m.

Fenn said he never would have done it if he wasn’t high on cocaine, court heard.

In closing arguments in late October, Cory Fenn said he was like “the walking dead” at the time of the killings.

“The mental element was not there,” he said. “It’s like the Wizard of Oz going down the path, ‘if I only had a brain’ — I didn’t have one, guys.”

Bruce McArthur Toronto Serial Killer

bruce mcarthur serial killer

Bruce McArthur is a Canadian serial killer who operated in the Toronto Ontario area from 2010 to 2017. The Toronto Police Department took a pretty big hit from newspapers as many believed he could have been stopped much earlier but because of the bias against the gay community there concerns were not taken seriously. In this article on My Crime Library we are going to take a closer look at serial killer Bruce McArthur.

Bruce McArthur Early Life

Bruce McArthur was born Thomas Donald Bruce McArthur in Lindsay Ontario on October 8, 1951. McArthur grew up on a farm where his parents would take in troubled kids from Toronto. McArthur who attended school in a one room schoolhouse was described by fellow students as a teacher’s pet. Bruce McArthur would later express his true sexual identity would start to appear but he kept it hidden due to society views of homosexuality at the time. Bruce McArthur would marry Janice Campbell when they were both 23

Bruce McArthur would work at a major department store in downtown Toronto that was slowly becoming a gay village. McArthur parents would die in 1978 and in 1981

Bruce McArthur and his wife would buy a home in Oshawa where they would have two children. The marriage would end in 1997 and Bruce McArthur would move back to Toronto as there was more of a gay community.

Bruce McArthur Crimes

In 2001 Bruce McArthur would physically assault another man inside of the man’s apartment. Bruce McArthur would turn himself over to police and told officers he was not sure of why he attacked the man. McArthur would be convicted of assault and sentenced to two years less a day ( In Canada two years less a day is a provincial sentence whereas anything two years and over is a Federal sentence – for my US Friends think State and Federal). However McArthur would serve the sentence at home under house arrest for the first year. In 2014 Bruce McArthur would have his record expunged.

Bruce McArthur More News

Bruce McArthur is unlikely to harm another person from behind the bars of his tiny cell in Millhaven. Ever.

The rotund landscaping ghoul and former travelling sock salesman is reportedly in failing health and death may come sooner than later.

But the convicted serial killer whose murderous jag came to an abrupt end in a Toronto courtroom a hair more than a year ago left a slew of loose ends.

For starters, no one believes McArthur, 68, started killing gay men when he was 56-years-old. A mountain of evidence says this is nearly impossible.

Pinning more murders on the corpulent killer, that’s another matter.

“Other than if you believe he’s responsible for the gay strip murders in the 1970s… and many people do… there’s this huge gap in his life from the late 1970s to when he came out of the closet in the early 1990s,” said cold case expert Michael Arntfield, a professor at Western University.

“You have to remember, he was doing his killing carefully, successfully. That didn’t happen over night.”

But Arntfield added that tying other homicides to McArthur may be akin to “finding a needle in a haystack.” An unenviable job for cops.

“If there’s no body, there’s no crime scene,” he said.

The only hope to bring closure to families whose loved ones have been missing or whose cases have gone unsolved for decades is if it turns out McArthur was involved and that he “does a Samuel Little” and starts talking. Maybe for his conscience. Maybe for his family.

Samuel Little is the elderly American serial killer who met a Texas Ranger he liked last year and started talking. And talking. And talking.

So far, he has copped to 93 murders of women across the U.S. with such detail, his drawings of the victims have helped cops identify the dead. He is the worst serial killer in American history.

“That’s 93 confessions on murders that never would have been solved unless he provided the dates and locations … Police would have had no ability to tie them all together without his cooperation,” Arntfield said.

In McArthur’s stomping grounds where he peddled socks for years, just two men fit the bill, including a confirmed homicide victim.

On Oct. 21, 1989, a man’s body was found in an isolated area near Napanee in eastern Ontario, north of Hwy. 401.

The South Asian victim had been gagged and his hands were bound. He had been strangled to death.

He was between 35 and 55-years-old with a  slight build.

All Bruce McArthur markers.

In a bitter twist, the victim wore and “evil eye” pendant on a gold chain around his neck. It failed spectacularly in warding off evil.

A second possibility is the mysterious death of Ottawa-area teen Shafiq Vikram who vanished in 1994. His body wasn’t discovered until 2016

Arntfield remains skeptical whether the Napanee murder or other potential McArthur homicides will ever be solved, saying “there’s not a lot to go on.”
