Michael Jayne News

A Santaquin police officer who died after he was hit by a suspect in a semi-truck on I-15 has been identified as Sgt. Bill Hooser.

A GoFundMe — which was shared and confirmed by Utah Sen. Mike McKell — has been established to raise funds for Hooser’s family.

According to the fundraiser, Hooser left behind a wife and two daughters, two son in laws and his new granddaughter

Hooser was killed on Sunday morning after officials were informed of someone standing on the back of a semi trailer as it was traveling northbound on I-15 in Santaquin.

Hooser and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper reported finding the semi just before 6:30 a.m.

While conducting a traffic stop, officials said the suspect — later identified as 42-year-old Michael Aaron Jayne — turned around the wrong way, striking Hooser and both patrol vehicles.

He fled on foot before allegedly stealing a white Ford truck. Jayne crashed the truck during a pursuit in the Vernal area and was taken into custody.

A family who lived in the area said they watched officers capture Jayne along Highway 191.

“How could he do that? How could you know that you caused harm to somebody and just leave the scene and not even stay or care what happened to him?” said Jana Fitzgerald, who witnessed the arrest.

A shelter-in-place was issued for several cities while the manhunt for Jayne ensued.

That’s where Fitzgerald and her family witnessed Jayne’s arrest.

“All of a sudden, we see dirt, and I was like, ‘what is that?’ We saw black marks going across the road down into a ravine. The cops were running across the road,” Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald explained that police flocked to the ravine to arrest Jayne.

“You could see the cops with the batons trying to break out the window on the passenger side because they couldn’t get him out,” she said.

The Fitzgerald family expressed that this tragic incident will have a profound impact on their community.

“The family is going to have to pay for it for the rest of their lives. Not having a father or a husband around,” said Brett Fitzgerald, another eyewitness to the arrest. “Someone was hurt today; somebody died because somebody was careless.”

Texas A&M football coach Blaise Taylor has been charged with two counts of murder

According to police reports Blaise Taylor allegedly poisoned his girlfriend Jade Benning killing her and their unborn child in Nashville Tennessee

Blaise Taylor would call 911 telling the operator that his girlfriend, Jade Benning, was suffering from an allergic reaction. The five month fetus would end up dying at the end of February 2023 and Jade Benning would follow suit ten days later

After a length investigation Blaise Taylor has been charged with two counts of first degree murder

Blaise Taylor will be extradited from Utah to Tennessee

Blaise Taylor News

Blaise Taylor, a former college football star at Arkansas State who has worked as an analyst on college football staffs and as an NFL scout, has been arrested on suspicion in the poisoning deaths of his girlfriend and her unborn child in Nashville, Tennessee.

United States Marshals arrested Taylor, 27, on Thursday night in Utah, serving an indictment from Nashville police on two counts of first-degree murder. Taylor is accused of poisoning Jade Benning in February 2023. Benning died March 6, 2023, on her 25th birthday, while her 5-month-old fetus, which Taylor is believed to have fathered, died on Feb. 27, 2023.

Benning was rushed to the hospital on Feb. 25, after Taylor called 911, saying Benning was having an allergic reaction. Her condition quickly became critical and she was unable to speak with police before she died.

Taylor had been working in Nashville for the Tennessee Titans, where he rose in the pro scouting department. He joined Utah State as a senior defensive analyst for the 2023 season, and reportedly had been hired earlier this month in a similar role at Texas A&M. Taylor’s father, Trooper, a longtime college coach, recently joined Texas A&M’s coaching staff as running backs coach and associate head coach under new head coach Mike Elko.

Blaise Taylor is accused of poisoning Benning without her knowledge while visiting her apartment. Nashville police say they are working with authorities in Utah to transport Taylor back to the city. Taylor was a four-year starter at Arkansas State, where Trooper coached defensive backs at the time. Blaise served as a captain and earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors as both a defensive back and a punt returner. He holds Arkansas State career records for punt return yards (1,151) and pass breakups (30), and left as the Sun Belt’s all-time leader in passes defended (36).

Steven Chance Brinkerhoff News

A California man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a brutal attack at a Utah massage parlor that left one woman dead in early January and prompted police to warn employees in similar occupations to “exercise extreme caution.”

Steven Chance Brinkerhoff, 39, is facing one count of first-degree felony murder for the death of 45-year-old Yuping Jiao, who was working alone in the spa when she was brutally attacked and stabbed approximately 56 times, according to an indictment.

Brinkerhoff, who was not a Utah resident, fled back to his home state of California, where he had an extensive criminal record, including possession of a dangerous weapon, assaulting a peace officer, fighting in public, drugs, possession of stolen property and a domestic violence violation.

According to the indictment, Jaio, who had immigrated to the U.S. from China, had been working at the A+ Massage in Midvale on Jan. 4. When Jaio’s brother could not get in touch with her, he went to the parlor to check on her and found her lifeless body in one of the massage rooms, riddled with stab wounds.

The Utah State Office of the Medical Examiner found 56 stab wounds total on Jiao’s body, as well as slice marks on her fingers, prick marks on her ankles, and a small chunk of skin that had been removed, according to documents.

Investigators sent evidence to a lab for testing, where a DNA profile connected Brinkerhoff to the case.

Video surveillance matched the description of Brinkerhoff, who only has one leg and was seen using a wheelchair to access the parlor at 12:30 p.m. and then leaving the building just before 2:30 p.m.

“Detectives were able to identify that cell phone data placed Brinkerhoff in the area of A+ Massage on the day of the incident,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “Additionally, Brinkerhoff had made contact via text messages with Jaio prior to the incident.”

After learning about Brinkerhoff’s involvement in the crime, officials enlisted the help of federal partners to take him into custody in California. He was arrested outside a California massage parlor on Jan. 19, two weeks after Jiao’s murder.

Steven Chance Brinkerhoff, now considered a flight risk, is being held without bail while awaiting extradition to Utah.

Jonathan Dunn News

A Utah man who served two years in prison for breaking a child’s arm seven years ago was charged Friday with killing a 2-year-old boy and badly injuring his twin sister, Weber County prosecutors said.

Jonathan Allen Dunn of Roy is charged with aggravated murder, aggravated child abuse and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. The aggravated murder charge carries the possibility of the death penalty, court records said.

Dunn, who told officers he had been babysitting the children, called 911 on Thursday morning to report the boy was not breathing, an affidavit supporting the charges said.

After his arrest, Dunn, 36, acknowledged punching the children in the back, sides and chest on Wednesday night and said that “he was hitting them harder than he should have,” court records said.

He also reported pinching the children and pushing them into a door frame, court records said. He said he gave them both Tylenol, gave the boy cough medicine and the girl some children’s sleep aid.

On Friday morning, the boy was wheezing and Dunn said he gave him more cough medicine. Between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., the boy stopped breathing, officers said Dunn told them.

Both children had bruising all over their bodies and the girl was taken to the hospital to be treated for a brain bleed, court records said.

A GoFundMe was set up to help the children’s family with funeral services and medical bills.

Dunn, who does not have an attorney listed in court records, was ordered held without bail and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Dec. 26.

Dunn was sentenced in May 2017 to one to 15 years in prison for breaking the arm of a child left in his care in 2016. He was released from prison in April 2019 and was on parole until December 2021, Utah Department of Corrections officials said.

A GoFundMe account has been established for the little boy who was killed.

Jonathan Dunn, a family friend who had previously been convicted of child abuse, was considered an “adopted uncle” who had custody of the children. He was arrested on two counts of aggravated sexual abuse, two counts of aggravated child abuse and one count of aggravated murder

According to court documents, officers responded to the home at 4450 South Street near Sand Ridge Park just before 10 a.m. after a report of a patient not breathing. When they arrived, they found the boy laying on the front porch “with several visible injuries to his face and body.”

Inside the home, officers saw the boy’s 2-year-old twin sister with bruises on her face.

The boy was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries, while the girl remains hospitalized.

During a police interview, Jonathan Dunn claimed the night before he was “playing a game with the kids and he began to punch the male and female child repeatedly in the back and sides and chest,” while admitting that “he was hitting them harder than he should have.”

Dunn told detectives that he picked up the children and began throwing them on the bed while they cried. He also said he had pinched the genitals of both children.

In 2017, Jonathan Dunn was convicted and sentenced to prison for child abuse.

“… As we attempt to put our lives back together after this unbelievable tragedy, we are choosing to honor Aleister’s life & memory as we process our grief,” the family partially said in a statement Friday.

Police believe there was a total of nine children in the house, but it’s unknown if the other children were harmed. Investigators say they are currently working on ensuring the remaining children are safe and out of harm’s way.
