A suburban teenager was arrested and charged in connection to the death of a pregnant mother who was found with stab wounds during a fire in an apartment off Ogden Avenue Monday evening, police said.

Nedas Revuckas, a 19-year-old from Westmont, was arrested by Downers Grove Police Tuesday in connection to the crime. He is facing charges of first-degree murder, robbery, arson, homicide of an unborn child and cruelty to animals.

Around 6 p.m. Monday, Downers Grove authorities responded to a structure fire in an apartment building on the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue.

A pregnant 30-year-old woman, later identified as Eliza Morales, was found in the building with apparent stab wounds, authorities said. She was treated by paramedics and pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family told NBC Chicago she was cooking dinner when she was attacked and that none of them know Revuckas.

Morales was 5 months pregnant and leaves behind a 1-year-old daughter, her family said.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Revuckas will appear in court for a detention hearing on Wednesday and is being held in DuPage County Jail, authorities said.

The DuPage County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the woman’s cause of death.

A second person was treated at the fire scene for smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital, authorities said.

The DuPage County Arson Task Force and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal are assisting with the investigation.

The 19-year-old man accused in the deadly stabbing of a pregnant woman inside her Downers Grove, Illinois, apartment was expected in court on Wednesday.

Nedas Revuckas of Westmont, Illinois, was arrested and charged on Tuesday with first-degree murder with intent to cause death or great bodily harm, armed robbery, aggravated arson, intentional homicide of an unborn child, and aggravated cruelty to animals.

His court appearance is scheduled for 8 a.m. at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.

Downers Grove police said officers and the Downers Grove Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment building in the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue just after 6 p.m. on Monday.

Firefighters pulled a 30-year-old pregnant woman, identified by police as Eliza Morales, from the fire and found she had suffered stab wounds. Paramedics tried to help her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales’ family said she had a 1 1/2-year-old daughter and was five months pregnant with her second daughter. She was married to her high school sweetheart.
