Blaise Taylor News

Blaise Taylor, a former college football star at Arkansas State who has worked as an analyst on college football staffs and as an NFL scout, has been arrested on suspicion in the poisoning deaths of his girlfriend and her unborn child in Nashville, Tennessee.

United States Marshals arrested Taylor, 27, on Thursday night in Utah, serving an indictment from Nashville police on two counts of first-degree murder. Taylor is accused of poisoning Jade Benning in February 2023. Benning died March 6, 2023, on her 25th birthday, while her 5-month-old fetus, which Taylor is believed to have fathered, died on Feb. 27, 2023.

Benning was rushed to the hospital on Feb. 25, after Taylor called 911, saying Benning was having an allergic reaction. Her condition quickly became critical and she was unable to speak with police before she died.

Taylor had been working in Nashville for the Tennessee Titans, where he rose in the pro scouting department. He joined Utah State as a senior defensive analyst for the 2023 season, and reportedly had been hired earlier this month in a similar role at Texas A&M. Taylor’s father, Trooper, a longtime college coach, recently joined Texas A&M’s coaching staff as running backs coach and associate head coach under new head coach Mike Elko.

Blaise Taylor is accused of poisoning Benning without her knowledge while visiting her apartment. Nashville police say they are working with authorities in Utah to transport Taylor back to the city. Taylor was a four-year starter at Arkansas State, where Trooper coached defensive backs at the time. Blaise served as a captain and earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors as both a defensive back and a punt returner. He holds Arkansas State career records for punt return yards (1,151) and pass breakups (30), and left as the Sun Belt’s all-time leader in passes defended (36).

Indianapolis Colts tight end Drew Ogletree was arrested on Friday in Indiana on two felony charges.

The second-year player faces charges of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old and domestic violence resulting in moderate bodily injury, Avon police said.

The incident occurred on December 26 when officers were called to respond to a report of a fight between two adults, according to FOX 59. Ogletree was reportedly detained at the scene, and a victim was transferred to the hospital.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on Thursday, and he turned himself in to authorities the next day.

“We are aware of the disturbing allegations involving Drew Ogletree,” the Colts said in a statement. “The team takes these matters seriously. We have notified the NFL and are in the process of gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Drew Ogletree More News

Indianapolis Colts tight end Drew Ogletree was arrested in Hendricks County, Indiana, on Friday on allegations of domestic violence.

Ogletree, a 2022 sixth-round pick, was arrested by deputies and charged with two level six felonies: domestic violence committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, according to state records.

A level six felony carries a penalty of up to 2½ years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Ogletree was arrested at 3:42 p.m. Friday, according to records, and had not been released as of Friday evening. The Colts acknowledged the situation in a statement released Friday night.

“We are aware of the disturbing allegations involving Drew Ogletree,” it read. “The team takes these matters seriously. We have notified the NFL and are in the process of gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

According to the Avon, Indiana, police department, the arrest stemmed from an incident on Tuesday evening. Officers were dispatched to a residence to address a domestic disturbance between Ogletree and a woman.

The first officer on the scene wrote in a probable cause affidavit provided to ESPN that the woman was discovered in an upstairs bedroom in pain. The woman told police that Ogletree “body slammed” her to the ground during an argument. An ambulance was called and the woman was transported to the hospital, police said.

The confrontation, according to the affidavit, happened while Ogletree’s young son was in the home. After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Thursday and Ogletree turned himself in to the Hendricks County Jail on Friday.

The Colts, who are in the thick of the AFC playoff race, play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in a key game for their postseason hopes. It’s unclear whether Ogletree will be eligible to play.

The second-year tight end spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve but has returned in 2023 to play in 12 games, catching nine passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns.

Former NBA Player Keith Appling Pleads Guilty To Murder

Keith Appling

Former NCAA basketball star and former NBA player Keith Appling has plead guilty to second degree murder in Michigan. Keith Appling who played for the Orlando Magic in 2016 has plead guilty to the murder of 66-year-old Clyde Edmond to whom he was related. Clyde Edmond was found in his front yard in Detroit Michigan with several gunshot wounds. Keith Appling would be driven away from the scene by Natalie Bannister, who plead guilty earlier and was sentenced to probation for lying to an officer. Keith Appling plea deal includes a sentencing guideline of 18 to 40 years in the Michigan Department Of Corrections, sentencing will take place in March 2023.

Keith Appling More News

Former NBA player Keith Appling pleaded guilty to second degree murder and a firearm charge on Monday in relation to a fatal shooting in 2021 in Detroit.

Appling, who played for the Orlando Magic in 2016, pled guilty in a Michigan court to one count each of second-degree murder and weapons felony firearm possession.

The plea deal was announced just as his trial was set to begin on Monday.

The 31-year-old Appling had been charged in 2021 for the murder of 66-year-old Clyde Edmonds, to whom Appling was related.

According to prosecutors, Appling’s plea agreement calls for a sentence of 18 to 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections and two years consecutive sentencing for the felony firearm possession.

He will be sentenced by a Michigan judge on March 3rd.

“It has been clear that this man has been spiraling downward for some time. Many of those that tried to intervene with this defendant were hoping that he would get on the right track and stay there,” said County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in 2021. “It is always tragic when one with so much promise, talent and possibility is alleged to have committed the most serious of crimes.”

On May 22, 2021, police officers were called to a house in Detroit because of a reported shooting where they found the victim on the front lawn with multiple gunshot wounds. Edmonds was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Prosecutors say that Appling had an argument with Edmonds over a handgun, after which Appling shot Edmonds multiple times before fleeing the scene.

It was alleged that Appling’s girlfriend Natalie Bannister drove Appling away from the crime and failed to tell the truth to officers investigating the case. In 2022, Bannister pled guilty to lying to a peace officer and was sentenced to 18 months’ probation.

Appling had a productive few years with the Michigan State Spartans, finishing among the college’s career leaders in starts, games played, free throws made, three-pointers attempted and points.

As well as playing for the Magic, he featured in the NBA’s developmental league, the G League, as well as playing for professional teams in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

CNN has reached out to Appling’s lawyers for comment.
