A shooting early Thursday in DeFuniak Springs has left one man dead and another facing an open count of murder.
Just after 10 am, Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a frantic 911 call where the caller told dispatchers someone had been shot.
Within minutes deputies arrived at the intersection of Caswell Road and Pioneer Drive to find a 41-year-old Crestview man with a single gunshot wound to the head. Walton County Fire Rescue quickly transported the victim to a local hospital where he later died.
Michael Rediker, 44, of Pioneer Drive, is charged with murder, battery, and three counts of aggravated assault. He was arrested and booked into the Walton County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released at the appropriate time.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office released new details about Thursday’s deadly shooting in DeFuniak Springs.
Sheriff Michael Adkinson said the victim was a husband and the father of two young children. According to the sheriff, the man was unarmed and killed on his own property.
Adkinson also said the victim’s wife was battered during the incident and that multiple witnesses were present.
The sheriff released the information after what he called “erroneous claims” on social media suggested the shooting was justified under Stand Your Ground law. Adkinson said those claims are not supported by the facts.
