In another weird crime news Amanda Martinez was arrested after she threw a hot bowl of soup at a restaurant manager. According to police reports Amanda Martinez was at the Sol de Jalisco restaurant in Temple in Texas and was complaining that the soup she was given was so hot that it was melting the plastic lid. When Amanda Martinez did not get her way she would toss the hot soup into the face of restaurant manager Janelle Broland. A woman is facing charges after she was caught on camera throwing soup in the face of a worker at a Texas fast-food restaurant, reports KCEN.
Amanda Martinez, 31, was arrested on Wednesday morning and charged with assault.
Surveillance video posted to TikTok shows the incident, which happened Nov. 7 at a Sol de Jalisco in Temple. Employee Jannelle Broland was at the center of the altercation.
“Basically, this woman had called saying her soup was so hot that it had melted the plastic lid into the soup,” Broland explained in another TikTok video. “I told her I was so sorry. That was so embarrassing because that had never happened to us before. I was, of course, offering her a refund and trying to get her an alternate meal, a free meal, something.”
But Broland says the woman didn’t want to listen and continued to yell, cuss and call Broland and the kitchen staff names.
“I told her, ‘Ma’am, I can still help you; all I’m asking is that you do not yell and curse at me.’ And then she says, ‘Oh no, honey. You haven’t heard attitude yet, and I will talk to you any which way I f***ing want.’ I said, ‘No, ma’am, you will not,’ and I hung up the phone,” Broland said.
The woman reportedly called back to speak to a manager, but she hung up after being put on hold. She then returned to the restaurant. After arguing with Broland some more, Broland warned the woman if she did not calm down, she would call the police. Shortly after that, the woman threw the soup in Broland’s face.
Broland says, luckily, the soup wasn’t as hot as it would have been if it were fresh, but it was still warm and she had a reaction to the spices.
“It really felt like I had been pepper-sprayed,” she said. “My eyes were burning, my nose was bleeding.”
Martinez has been banned from the restaurant.
