Chance Seneca Gets 45 Years For Grindr Murder Plot

Chance Seneca

Chance Seneca is a man from Louisiana who wanted to be a serial killer just like Jeffrey Dahmer however the first time he attempted to murder someone he failed. According to court documents Chance Seneca decided to use Grindr in order to meet men that he could later murder. The first time that Chance Seneca put his plan into action he met a teenager Holden White who he would later lure to a remote location, handcuff him and attempted to kill him in a variety of ways. Holden White would end up in a coma but would survive the attack. Chance Seneca would be arrested, convicted and now will spend forty five years in a Louisiana prison.

Chance Seneca More News

A Louisiana man was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison for kidnapping and attempting to murder a gay teen as part of a broader hate crime scheme targeting men on an LGBTQ dating app, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

Chance Seneca, 21, pleaded guilty in September, admitting to kidnapping the teen whom he met on Grindr with the intention of killing him and dismembering his body. His decadeslong sentencing rested on a variety of factors, the Justice Department revealed, including that Seneca intentionally targeted the teen and other gay men because of their sexual orientation.

The Justice Department said Seneca spent months “designing a murder-kidnapping scheme that mirrored the murders of gay men committed by the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.” It added that, as with Dahmer, Seneca intended to eat and preserve the body parts of his victims.

“The facts of this case are truly shocking, and the defendant’s decision to specifically target gay men is a disturbing reminder of the unique prejudices and dangers facing the LGBTQ+ community today,” Kristen Clarke, an assistant attorney general for the department’s civil rights division, said in a statement. “The internet should be accessible and safe for all Americans, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.”

Last year, Seneca admitted that in June 2020 he intended to kill the victim, Holden White, who was then 18, “for the purpose of satisfying his homicidal urges,” according to a previous Justice Department statement. White survived the grisly assault, but was left in a coma for three days.

After his arrest, Seneca also acknowledged that he intended to kill other gay men until he was either caught or killed himself, the Justice Department said Wednesday. Within days of his assault on White, Seneca allegedly attempted to kidnap a different man and allegedly kidnapped another, the Justice Department said in a previous statement.

On Wednesday, White posted a succinct message on Facebook, in what appeared to be in response to Seneca’s sentencing: “45 years.”

The Louisiana case is one of several where people have used Grindr, a dating app founded in 2009 that is predominantly used by gay men, to target LGBTQ people around the world.

An Addis police officer David Cauthron is facing criminal charges after striking and killing two teenage girls during a high-speed chase of a suspect Saturday, according to 18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton.

Officials told WBRZ that officer David Cauthron was arrested and booked Sunday night on two counts of negligent homicide.

“That cop has a lot of questions to answer pertaining to his speed and sheer negligence,” Clayton said earlier that same day. “The public can rest assured, we will follow the facts.”

Clayton told The Advocate his office is to review dash cam footage and communications from the officer.

“For these kids to not to have been able to start the New Year is inexcusable, but we’ll follow the facts first,” Clayton told the news outlet. “I just can’t put my arms around why (the officer) was driving at that rate of speed in pursuit of this vehicle. This officer is facing some serious issues.”

Clayton has also inquired with the Baton Rouge Police Department about why the pursuit was deemed necessary in Baton Rouge over a home invasion and stolen vehicle, according to a report from The Advocate.

“If it involves putting human life in danger, stop the damn pursuit,” Clayton said. “It’s just not worth the risk.”

Witnesses told WBRZ that while pursuing suspect Tyquel Zanders, the police officer ran a red light on LA 1 in Brusly and struck the victims’ vehicle, pushing them into the median.

The crash claimed the lives of 17-year-old Maggie Dunn and 16-year-old Caroline Gill. Maggie’s brother, Liam Dunn, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and he was last reported to be in critical condition.

Prosecutors said Zanders will also face additional charges for the deadly crash.

“He put the chain of events into play,” Clayton told The Advocate. “He’s responsible for all the reactions to his actions. He’s facing two counts, and if that poor kid doesn’t survive, he’ll face another.”

The chase started in a Baton Rouge neighborhood when Zanders stole a family member’s vehicle. He led authorities through East and West Baton Rouge, and police ultimately stopped Zanders on I-10 back in the capital city. He was taken into custody without incident.

Clayton said the laws surrounding police chases may need to be changed in light of Saturday’s crash and his office would pursue all information before deciding if the Addis officer should be charged, according to the news outlet.

“I want the public to have confidence in its DA’s office that we will follow the facts, and we should let the facts lead us to whatever the outcome should be,” Clayton said.

Kevin Daigle Sentenced To Death In Louisiana

Kevin Daigle louisiana

Kevin Daigle was sentenced to death in Louisiana for the murder of a police officer. According to court documents a drunk Kevin Daigle was on the side of the road and when State Trooper Steven Vincent attempted to help him Daigle pulled out a shotgun and shot the trooper. State Trooper Steven Vincent would later die from his injuries. Kevin Daigle was officially sentenced to death after two different juries would sentence him to death. Kevin Daigle has also been charged with the murder of his roommate Blake Brewer.

Kevin Daigle More News

Kevin Daigle has formally been sentenced to death by Judge Clayton Davis after two different juries found that Daigle should die for the murder of State Trooper Steven Vincent.

Vincent responded to a stranded motorist on the side of a rural road in 2015. As he tried to help an intoxicated Kevin Daigle, Daigle pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and gravely wounded Vincent who died in the hospital.

Daigle was formally sentenced to death by Judge Clayton Davis Thursday. For Vincent’s family, this day was long in coming.

Iowa Police Chief Keith Vincent is Steven’s older brother. He felt a sense of relief.

“It sets an example that deviant people cannot go around shooting police officers intentionally, showing no remorse and not having the full extent of the law allowed in this state, which is the death penalty, which is what that law is designed for, capital murder, and it’s good to see he got the fullest extent,” said Chief Vincent.

They still suffer the pain and grief of losing their brother, but Steven’s younger brother, Terrell Vincent, says sentencing helps.

“Maybe, kind of get some closure. I know there will be appeals but to me, just hearing the sentencing, that was enough for me,” said Terrell.

They also expressed gratitude for all the work that went into the trial in which Daigle was convicted and the penalty phase during which juries voted he should die. There was a second penalty phase with a new jury to resolve a defense dispute over whether one juror in the first trial was properly qualified to serve.

“Words can’t express the gratitude and the way we feel that justice was finally served and the district attorney and law enforcement did a great job collecting all the evidence and we finally got the result that the family’s been waiting for, justice,” said Chief Vincent.

“Glad to live in a country where we have a justice system, and it played out. It took a while, but it played out and justice as well as his punishment will be served,” said Terrell.

Death penalty appeals usually take many years.

District Attorney Stephen Dwight says they are prepared.

“We’ll fight that every step of the way, because we feel the jury came back with a just verdict and we’re prepared to continue to fight it through the state court and federal court,” said Dwight.

Right now the state is not performing executions. At last word, it was because they are unable to get the chemicals required for lethal injection.

The defense asked to delay today’s sentencing and asked for a new trial. The judge denied both motions. Defense attorneys declined to do interviews after the sentencing.

Daigle was also charged with the second-degree murder of his roommate Blake Brewer, who was found dead in his Moss Bluff home after Daigle’s arrest.

Megan Hall Manslaughter

A woman who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a prominent Schuylkill County businessman in a New Orleans hotel room could serve less than eight years in prison after she had the majority of her sentence suspended as part of a plea deal.

Megan Hall, 28, of Munford, Tenn., pleaded guilty to manslaughter, armed robbery and obstruction of justice in New Orleans Criminal Court on Monday, according to court records.

Hall received 25 years for each of the three charges to which she pleaded, but those sentences will run

concurrently, court records show.

The judge also suspended 15 of the 25 years, though that time could be reinstated depending on her behavior while incarcerated.

Hall will also receive credit for almost three years of time served, meaning she could potentially serve less than eight more years.

A count of second-degree murder was amended to the manslaughter charge as part of her plea agreement. If convicted of second-degree murder, Hall would have faced a mandatory life sentence. In Louisiana, second-degree murder is a slaying committed during a felony.

Murphy and his family have operated Murphy Jewelers in downtown Pottsville since 1913. Murphy expanded the business, adding locations in Hamburg and in the Lehigh Valley Mall near Whitehall, Lehigh County.

Hall’s murder trial had been pushed back several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She is also charged with sexual battery in a separate case and awaits court action on that charge, according to online court records.

According to prosecutors:

Hall stabbed Murphy, 62, once in the neck and twice in the abdomen in a room at the Empress Hotel on Feb. 28, 2019.

A housekeeper discovered Murphy’s body at 11:41 a.m. in a room registered to Hall.

Video surveillance cameras showed Murphy and Hall arriving at the hotel together at 2:10 a.m. Hall was seen leaving the hotel room alone and briskly walking out the front door at 3:42 a.m.

Hotel guests told police that they heard a struggle and a woman yelling around 3:30 a.m.

Murphy had been visiting the city after attending a jewelry convention in Arizona.

When the district attorney’s office was asked by two New Orleans newspapers — the Times-Picayune and the New Orleans Advocate — whether the victim’s family approved of the resolution, prosecutors released this statement:

“Going to trial isn’t for every victim or family. The emotional and mental anguish of seeing the person who has harmed you or your loved one is sometimes too much to bear. In this case, the DA’s office worked closely with the victim’s family, and they urged us to negotiate a resolution with Megan Hall precisely in order to avoid the trauma of reliving their loss in a trial.

“With our office securing the conviction of manslaughter, armed robbery and obstruction of justice via guilty plea, Hall is now facing many years in prison. Her conviction is another example of our office using every tool in our arsenal as prosecutors to ensure that justice is served.”

Dyteon Simpson More News

After hearing closing arguments, the jury deliberated over the fate of 23-year-old Dyteon Simpson, and found him guilty of the second-degree murder of ex-LSU basketball player Wayde Sims.

The jury was shown three videos of the fight that broke out before Sims was killed in 2018, which showed Sims intervening in the confrontation and the moment of the shooting. Two were shot by spectators and another was the body camera footage from a police officer who was at the scene.

Along with the footage, a 911 call placed by one of Sims’ friends was heard by the jury. In the recording, she told responders she couldn’t tell if he was alive or not.

The state presented the gun that was found at the scene, and then finished their closing arguments.

The defense presented evidence to the jury, including a pair of glasses, but Simpson chose not to take the stand.

The jury was seated in Simpson’s trial just last week, and the two sides argued over who was the aggressor in the brawl before witnesses began taking the stand Friday.

During those testimonies, it came out that the fistfight—which broke out after a concert on Southern University’s campus—likely started over a woman. That woman was present during the fight, and she testified in favor of Sims, who she said was a friend.

The witness went on to say that she and her friends were approached by another group that included Simpson shortly before the fighting began.

Jurors also watched a recording of Simpson’s interview with police where he admitted to being present for the brawl and having a gun on him at the time.
