A man has been arrested in the shooting death of a national title-winning University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnast near campus, police said.

Whitewater police said Chad T. Richards, a 23-year-old man who knew the victim, shot Kara Welsh, 21, after an altercation at a campus-area apartment late Friday.

Police said they will not be releasing any additional information at this time because this is an active investigation.

University Chancellor Corey King announced Welsh’s death Saturday in a message to students and faculty and staff members.

“We know the news of Kara’s death is heartbreaking for our close-knit university community,” King said. “It is a time when we are all called upon to support one another, to process, and to grieve.”

The suspect was taken to Walworth County Jail and booked on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide, endangering safety while armed and disorderly conduct while armed, police said in a statement, adding that they forwarded these charges to the Walworth County District Attorney’s office.

Richards is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, according to police. It’s not clear if he has an attorney at this time.

In an earlier statement, the police department said the 23-year-old suspect was present when officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim Friday. A woman, later identified as Welsh, had been shot multiple times and was dead when officers arrived, police said.

“Through investigation, it was determined that leading up to the shooting, an altercation had occurred between the two,” police said.

The killing took place on the 100 block of Whitewater Street, about a mile east of the school’s main campus, at a residence listed on a university web page as off-campus housing.

Welsh was a business management major from Plainfield, Illinois, who won an individual national title on the vault for the gymnastics team last year, according to the school.

She was a vault “phenom” who holds four of the eight highest vault scores in team history, the university’s athletic department said in a statement Sunday.

“To put into words the impact Kara had on the Warhawk community is impossible,” coach Jen Regan said in the statement. “A powerful athlete, dedicated teammate, and the light in everyone’s dark days, Kara truly lifted each and every one of us up in her time as a Warhawk gymnast.”

USA Gymnastics, the governing body for the sport in the U.S., said on X, “We offer our deepest condolences to Kara’s family, friends and teammates at @UWWGymnastics.”

King said memorial services will be announced when details are available. Flags on campus will fly at half-staff when students and faculty and staff members return Tuesday, and counseling is available to those who need it, he said.

A relative of Walsh’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday evening.

Whitewater is about 50 miles west-southwest of Milwaukee

Maxwell Anderson is an accused killer from Wisconsin who has been charged with the murder of Sade Robinson

According to police reports Maxwell Anderson and Sade Robinson had met at a restaurant for their first date where the young woman was last seen alive

Police were able to track Sade Robinson phone to a nearby park where they made a horrific discovery of body parts

Police would then track down Maxwell Anderson through his phone and determined he was in the same place as the discovery of Sade Robinson body

Police believe that Maxwell Anderson would dismember Sade Robinson and would later torch her car in order to cover up the murder

Maxwell Anderson has been charged with first degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse and arson of property other than a building.

Maxwell Anderson News

Maxwell Anderson, 33, has been charged in connection to the death and disappearance of 19-year-old Sade Robinson. Investigators say Anderson intentionally killed and then dismembered Robinson with the intent to conceal the murder.

Anderson has been charged with first degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse and arson of property other than a building.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators used cellphone data and surveillance footage to piece together the details of what happened to Robinson.

The complaint says on Monday, April 1, Anderson and Robinson met for a first date at Twisted Fisherman, a seafood restaurant located on Canal Street in Milwaukee. Investigators say surveillance footage shows the two sitting at the same table and eating at the restaurant around 5:30 p.m. and leaving just before 6:30 p.m.

Investigators used Life360, an app that provides the location of a mobile device, to track Robinson’s phone the night of April 1. The data showed Robinson’s phone traveled from Twisted Fisherman to the area of Duke’s on Water, and then to the area of Anderson’s residence — near 39th and Oklahoma.

Robinson’s device, according to the complaint, then traveled to the area of Warnimont Park between 2 and 3 a.m. — the area where officials made the first disturbing discovery hours later.

Just after 7:30 a.m. on April 2, officials found Robinson’s 2020 Honda Civic torched near 29th and Lisbon. Video surveillance shows Anderson leaving the scene and getting on a Milwaukee County transit bus just after 8 a.m. heading south towards his home. Around 5:30 p.m., the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office located a severed leg in Warnimont Park.

Just after 1 a.m. April 4, Anderson was pulled over near 38th and Lakefield Drive by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office in a traffic stop that led to his arrest. In his car was the clothing he was wearing when he allegedly torched Robinson’s car. That same day, investigators executed a search warrant at Anderson’s residence. According to the complaint, blood was found on bedding in one of the bedrooms and on the walls leading toward the basement. Several gasoline containers were also found.

On Saturday, April 6, officials found a human foot while searching the area of 31st and Galena.

According to the criminal complaint, the leg found in Warnimont Park appeared to be from the same individual as the foot found near 31st and Galena, particularly due to skin tone, size, and having matching pink nail polish.

The complaint says, analysis done by the Wisconsin State Crime Lab showed DNA from the leg found in Warnimont Park determined the remains belonged to Robinson.

A probable cause statement was issued for Anderson’s arrest, and he was placed into custody last week.

The DA’s office placed Anderson on a 72-hour-hold until blood evidence had been processed, and before any formal charges could drop.

According to court documents, in 2014, Anderson plead guilty to a disorderly conduct charge. That same year, he was also charged with domestic abuse – that charge was later dismissed.

In 2015, court documents show Anderson was found guilty of domestic abuse, intimidating a witness, and criminal damage to property.

In 2019, Anderson, was found guilty for his second offense of driving while under the influence.

Most recently, in 2022, Anderson was found guilty of driving with a suspended license.

Samantha Wishman Murders 3 YR Old Boy

Samantha Wishman

Samantha Wishman is an alleged killer from Wisconsin who has been charged in the death of a three year old boy

According to police reports 911 was called to report an unresponsive three year old. When emergency personnel arrived they would find the body of three year old. Samantha Wishman and the boy’s father would tell police the child had fallen down the stairs the night before

Initially the death was ruled as an accident however an autopsy would reveal that the three year old boy had been dead for sometime before the emergency personnel had arrived at the home and there was also a number of injuries to the body of the child that did not match a fall down the stairs

Police would arrest Samantha Wishman after her phone history would reveal texts that pointed to a much more sinister event that took place. Wishman who told the person she was texting with that she was ready to cause harm to the children in the home

Samantha Wishman has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and neglect of a child resulting in death

Samantha Wishman News

A Marinette woman has been charged with two counts, including reckless homicide, for the death of her boyfriend’s 3-year-old son.

Samantha Wishman, 32, is charged with first-degree reckless homicide and neglecting a child-consequence is death for the June 15, 2023 death. An initial court appearance is scheduled for April 15.

According to the criminal complaint, first responders were called to a Gilbert Street home for a child who was unresponsive and not breathing. Wishman told police the boy had fallen down the stairs the night before.

The child was taken to a hospital, but died. Police observed “significant bruising” on his head, his abdomen appeared distended, and there were bruises across other areas of his body, the complaint states. The autopsy show multiple rib fractures and a lung laceration, among other injuries.

Wishman showed police where the boy fell down the stairs, and where she said she cared for him afterwards.

During the investigation, police discovered text messages Wishman sent the father, including one which stated “I’m ready to hurt these mother (expletive) kids nobody (expletive) understands I can’t breathe so this is so much harder n now I’m having more problems breathing.”

Another child who lives in the house described Wishman using a belt on the children in the house, as well as other discipline including spanking, a wooden spoon, and slapping.

Police interviewed Wishman about two weeks after the death, telling her the injuries suffered were not consistent with a fall down the stairs, and she replied “Doesn’t make sense,” the complaint says.

“In summary, the finding of multiplanar patterned bruising; bruising in anatomically protected locations; and severe internal injuries would not be expected after a stairway fall. In my opinion, (the victim) has likely been a victim of non-accidental trauma which led to his death,” states the repot by Dr. Kristen Iniguez, Director of the Marshfield Child Advocacy Center, as quoted in the complaint.

Taylor Schabusiness Gets Life For Brutal Murder

Taylor Schabusiness

Taylor Schabusiness has learned that she will never be a free woman again after being sentenced to life in prison without the purpose of parole for the murder of Shad Thyrion

According to court documents Taylor Schabusiness would murder Shad Thyrion before dismembering his body and scattering parts around the Thyrion household. Shad mother would find her son’s head in a bucket before calling police.

Taylor Schabusiness would be arrested and would attempt to put forth an insanity defense which the jury did not buy. Her lawyer claimed that her heavy drug abuse led to the disturbing murder. Of course this was her second lawyer as the first was attacked by Schabusiness during the trial

After being found guilty the judge would pass sentence of life without parole and the State of Wisconsin is safer because of the sentence

Taylor Schabusiness Case

A Wisconsin woman convicted of killing and dismembering a former boyfriend and scattering his body parts at various locations was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole.

A Brown County judge sentenced Taylor Schabusiness, 25, for the February 2022 killing of Shad Thyrion, 24. A jury had convicted her in July of first-degree intentional homicide, third-degree sexual assault and mutilating a corpse.

Schabusiness had pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, but jury also found that she wasn’t mentally ill when she killed Thyrion

Prosecutors said Thyrion and Schabusiness had smoked methamphetamine in the basement of Thyrion’s mother’s Green Bay home before Schabusiness strangled, decapitated and dismembered him. She then left parts of his body throughout the house and in a vehicle, authorities said.

Schabusiness was arrested on Feb. 23, 2022, after Thyrion’s mother called police to her house after she discovered her son’s head in a bucket in the basement.

Brown County Circuit Judge Thomas Walsh said Tuesday before announcing her sentence that “the offense in this case can’t be overstated,” the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported.

“You seem to run out of superlatives. Where the victim’s remains are cut up? These actions are foreign. They shock the community; there aren’t really words for it,” he said.

Schabusiness’ defense attorney, Christopher Froelich, told the court she would speak on her own behalf before Walsh sentenced her. But when the judge asked Schabusiness if there was anything she’d like to say, she replied simply, “No, there isn’t.”

“She’s not a monster,” Froelich told the court, adding that at age 25 there’s still time for his client to be rehabilitated, WBAY-TV reported.

In February, Schabusiness attacked her previous attorney during a hearing before a deputy wrestled her to the courtroom floor.

Quiana Mann 10 Yr Old Son Charged With Murder

Quiana Mann son

Quiana Mann ten year old son has been charged with the murder of his mother and now it has decided the now eleven year old boy will stand trial as an adult

According to police reports Quiana Mann ten year old son (his name has not been released even though they are charging him as an adult) was upset with his mother for waking him up early and for not buying him a gaming headset would grab a gun and shoot his mother in the face and Quiana Mann would die from her injuries

Now the court system in Wisconsin had deemed the now eleven year old child will stand trial for murder as an adult where he could face up to life in prison with no chance of parole for forty years for he does not have a major mental health illness and he understands the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor. Apparently that is enough in Wisconsin to charge a ten year old as an adult

Quiana Mann More News

An 11-year-old Wisconsin boy who allegedly killed his mother by shooting her in the face after she refused to buy him a virtual reality headset on Amazon has been deemed competent to stand trial as an adult.

The child, whose identity is not being made public, underwent review by two psychologists before Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Jane Carroll rendered the decision to try him as an adult on Thursday. Notably, the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal reported that the psychologists differed on whether the boy was truly competent or understood the nature of the crime or the charges against him.

His defense attorney told Carroll she did not believe the boy would be able to assist in the defense. The judge nonetheless deemed him prepared to stand trial as an adult, saying that the boy—who was 10 years old at the time of the November shooting—had not received a “major mental diagnosis” and had demonstrated an ability to comprehend and learn what was happening around him.

Fox News reported on Thursday that Milwaukee County prosecutor Sara Waldschmidt told the judge the child “knew his case was in adult court, that he knew his case was a felony, he knew that there were two types of cases—felonies and misdemeanors and he knew it was serious.”

Prosecutors say the boy’s mother, Quiana Mann, was doing laundry in her Wisconsin home when her son confronted her with a gun taken from a lockbox in the residence that he accessed with a key. The boy initially told authorities it was an accident and he only meant to scare his mother and shoot at the wall just behind her. Mann walked in front of the gun however and was shot in the face.

The shooting was originally ruled accidental but according to ABC’s WISN12, when police questioned the boy a second time, he said it wasn’t accidental. Instead, he told police he was angry with his mother that day because she woke him up early.

Police only questioned him a second time because Mann’s family members raised concerns with authorities that the boy had long-running rage issues and frequently acted out. They noted too that he had been undergoing therapy.

Just a day after Mann died, prosecutors say the boy purchased the virtual reality headset on his mother’s Amazon account, told his grandmother, “I’m sorry for killing my mom” and then asked whether his package had arrived.

Mann was on the cusp of completing her master’s degree in business at Concordia University before she was killed. Her mother, Lueritha Mann, accepted a posthumous degree on behalf of her daughter in May.

The tragedy has rocked the family and caused deep pain. In December, during an interview with Milwaukee NBC station WTMJ, Leuritha Mann said she had not yet talked to her grandson directly. She hoped to one day, she lamented, but couldn’t bring herself to do it.

“He took something very precious from me,” she said.

Mann’s sister, Rhonda Reid, told the station that when she spoke to the boy while he was in custody, he said he did not remember shooting his mother. He instead changed the subject of conversation to his devices.

Reid also emphasized that her nephew had a long history of mental health issues. When her sister was killed, she said in the December interview, her nephew had already been receiving treatment for mood disorders. She also said her nephew reported hearing multiple imaginary voices. Part of the solution prescribed to him by therapists was less time on electronic devices. Reid said her sister was doing what doctors recommended and limiting or removing his access to electronic devices or violent games.

The 11-year-old was charged this January with first-degree intentional homicide. He is next slated to appear in court on Sept. 5 for a preliminary hearing.

In Wisconsin, children as young as 10 can be charged as adults for certain severe crimes including first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
