A 20-year-old Mansfield man remains in custody on a combined bond of more than $1 million after allegedly killing his mother and abducting his 4-year-old nephew, an incident that sparked a successful interstate AMBER Alert on Jan. 31.

The investigation began at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2026, when Mansfield police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Cotton Drive after a family member discovered 63-year-old Andrea Colgrove unresponsive on the floor.

Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced Colgrove dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later determined she died from a stab wound to the neck, and her death was officially ruled a homicide.

During the initial investigation, officers learned Colgrove had legal guardianship of her 4-year-old grandson, whose whereabouts were unknown. Police also discovered that a tan 2009 Toyota Corolla had been taken from the residence.

Detectives identified Raymond Isaac Carmona, Colgrove’s 20-year-old son, as a suspect in both the homicide and the child’s disappearance, as well as the unauthorized removal of the vehicle. Authorities entered the child into state and national databases as a critical missing person. Due to his age, the child’s identity has not been released.

Investigators developed information indicating the stolen vehicle had traveled into Missouri. An AMBER Alert was issued, and the vehicle was entered into state and national law enforcement databases as stolen.

Shortly after the alert was broadcast, Missouri law enforcement located the Toyota Corolla with Raymond Carmona and the child inside. At approximately 2:40 p.m., just hours after the initial call for service, Carmona was taken into custody without incident, and the child was safely recovered.

The child was later released into the care of Child Protective Services

Mansfield detectives traveled to Missouri and interviewed Carmona, during which investigators said he admitted to his involvement in his mother’s death.

Carmona was subsequently returned to Tarrant County and indicted by a grand jury on Feb. 6. Court records show he is charged with:

Murder
Aggravated kidnapping
Theft of property (motor vehicle)
His combined bonds total $1,007,500.

Carmona is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. in the 485th District Court.

The Mansfield Police Department said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
