Police say a woman from Sunset Hills killed Henry Williams, the former Fire Chief of Berkeley, Mo., and a juvenile.

Linda Hayden, 61, was charged with four felonies: two counts of murder in the first degree and two counts of armed criminal action.

Court documents state less than an hour after relatives of Williams made plans with him to come over to his house, they found him and an unnamed juvenile deceased, each with a gunshot wound in the head. The relatives called 911 and after police arrived, officers found Hayden behind the locked master bedroom door of the home and a revolver in the master bathroom with two spent casings in the chamber.

Hayden and Williams were in a relationship and living together with the juvenile, per police.

“I believe that the defendant poses a danger to the community or to any other person because the defendant shot two individuals in the head,” stated the Ferguson Police Department in the probable cause statement.

Hayden is being held in St. Louis County on a $2 million monetary cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 26, 2026, and a bond reduction hearing is scheduled for March 2.

People across the region are mourning after a firefighter and his teen daughter were found murdered in their Ferguson home on Saturday.

Henry Williams and HaLayna Elliott were found dead from gunshot wounds Saturday evening. Williams’ ex-girlfriend, Linda Hayden, has been charged with two counts of murder.

According to the criminal complaint, family members had planned to meet Williams at his home. When they arrived at 6:11 p.m. Saturday, Williams had been shot in the back of the head. Elliott had been shot in the forehead. The criminal complaint says Hayden told officers she guessed she would be considered the “villain in the story.”

Williams spent decades as a firefighter, eventually becoming chief in Berkeley. About 12 years ago, he left that department and later joined Boeing’s St. Louis Fire Department, where colleagues said he continued to make a lasting impression.

“I’ve been looking at Henry’s face for three, three and a half years, every other morning. Nothing but a smile,” said Shawn Sims, a former colleague who worked security and greeted Williams each day at work.

“Henry and I always made 30 seconds last long and he always complimented me on my smile,” Sims said. “That’s a good guy and I’m going to miss him.”

In a statement, Boeing said, “We honor his service and contributions to our company and to our community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.”

The Boeing firefighters union wrote on Facebook, “Our hearts ache during this difficult moment.”

“Just another hero lost,” Sims said. “I don’t know the background of it, but nothing is worth that.”

Meanwhile, classmates, teachers and coaches took to social media to honor Elliott, a sophomore at Pattonville High School. In a message to families, the school’s principal offered care, support and resources, writing, “In moments like this, it is difficult to find words that adequately reflect the sorrow we feel. The loss of a student deeply affects our entire school community.”

Pattonville’s girls’ team has a game scheduled for Tuesday night. The school plans to honor Elliott during the game.
