Trinity Shakespeare Charged With Child Abuse

Trinity Shakespeare

This one is weird. Trinity Shakespeare is a woman from Nebraska who would give birth on the streets of Omaha and proceeded to walk away leaving the newborn behind. According to police reports Trinity Shakespeare was witnessed by a bunch of people giving birth to a little boy and then would be long gone before police showed up leaving the newborn child on the cold Omaha streets. Trinity Shakespeare has been arrested and has been charged with child abuse. Now Trinity Shakespeare was not alone as a number of good citizens came to her aid and wrapped her up in blankets and even called an ambulance, which Shakespeare refused to get into. Like I said this one is just plain weird. Needless to say the newborn boy is now in protective services.

A 23-year-old Wall man, already imprisoned for abusing his son, pleaded guilty Thursday to suffocating his six-week-old daughter, announced acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

Austin Meli faces 30 years in state prison on the first-degree aggravated manslaughter charge. The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, which means that he must serve 85% of the sentence before being eligible for parole.

Meli is already serving a 10-year-sentence in prison for second-degree aggravated assault, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree tampering with physical evidence in the abuse of his then-15-month-old son in March 2019, the same month his daughter died. The Prosecutor’s Office has recommended that the sentences run consecutive.

The daughter, identified as G.B. in court documents, died March 9, 2019, after she went  unresponsive while in the care of her father, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Meli admitted to the girl’s mother in secretly recorded conversations that he had suffocated the infant until she was dazed, Assistant Prosecutor Ellyn Rajfer said at a hearing in state Superior Court in 2020.

He then gave the girl a bottle and, when she threw up on him, he admitted that he grew angry and suffocated her until she passed out. The girl never woke up.

Wall Township police were called to the home and the baby was rushed to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick, where she was pronounced dead.

Meli was not charged in her death until January 2020, after the girl’s mother turned over the recordings of her conversations with Meli to the police, according to court documents filed in the case.

While police investigated the girl’s death, they uncovered evidence of violent abuse against Meli’s son. Investigators at that time uncovered video from surveillance cameras in the bedroom Meli shared with the mother of his children. The cameras captured a series of violent acts by Meli against his toddler son that occurred in the days before his daughter’s death, authorities said.

The video showed Meli striking his son in the head and knocking him down in his playpen, picking him by the neck and violently shaking him, slamming the child onto a bed and pressing on his neck, and then throwing him back into his playpen, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Wall Detective Christopher Lisewski.

Meli was sentenced to 10 years in prison in March 2020 after pleading guilty to the charges of aggravated assault, evidence tampering and endangering the welfare of a child in that case.

The aggravated manslaughter case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutors Rajfer and Margaret Koping.

Criminal defense attorney Allison Friedman in Freehold represents Meli.

Alex John Radulovic Charged With Infant’s Murder

Alex John Radulovic

Alex John Radulovic is a man from Michigan who has been charged in the murder of his girlfriend’s one year old son. According to court documents Alex John Radulovic became enraged at the one year child and would grab him by the chest and slammed him multiple times on the floor. Alex John Radulovic would then place the one year old in his crib and he went out for a walk. When Alex John Radulovic returned to the home with a friend the one year old was groaning and an ambulance was called. The one year old boy Alexander “Xan” Butler would die soon after arriving at the hospital. Alex John Radulovic would admit to authorities that he had injured the child.

Alex John Radulovic More News

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office has charged a 23-year-old man in the Saturday morning death of a 1-year-old Grand Rapids boy.

Alex John Radulovic, 23, has been charged with one count of felony murder and one count of first-degree child abuse in Alexander Butler’s death. The prosecutor’s office said both are punishable by life in prison.

“Child abuse in the first degree is knowingly and intentionally causing serious physical harm to a child and that’s got to be not just anybody but a caregiver. Usually it’s a parent or guardian,” said Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker. “It’s not accidental, it’s not reckless. You have to knowingly and intentionally do some action that causes that serious physical harm. Those are fairly rare, fortunately. It’s not something that we see on a regular basis but we do see it a few times a year.”

Becker says typically these kinds of charges come about from someone close to the child.

“We’ve unfortunately had quite a few child abuse charges/homicides over the last few years and the public is always extremely worried about them. They think that it’s strangers (doing it) or something along those lines and unfortunately it’s typically somebody really close to the child,” said Becker.

The prosecutor’s office says Radulovic is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday and is being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility.

On Saturday around 9 a.m., emergency crews were sent to Weston Street SW between Ionia Avenue SW and Division Avenue S on reports of an infant not breathing.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said the child was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His death was later determined to be suspicious.

After an autopsy revealed that Alexander died of head trauma and his death was ruled a homicide. GRPD says Radulovic was responsible for the infant at the time of the incident. Authorities believe Radulovic was the boyfriend of the infant’s mother.

Alex John Radulovic Other News

The Grand Rapids Police Department has announced charges against a man in connection to the death of a 1-year-old boy he was caring for.

Alex John Radulovic, 23, was responsible for the child’s care at the time of the incident. He’s since been charged with one count of felony murder and one count of child abuse of the first degree, the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office says. If convicted, both are punishable by life in prison.

According to court documents obtained by 13 ON YOUR SIDE, police and medical personnel were called to the apartments at 50 West St. SW to a report of a 1-year-old child not breathing on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Court documents say Radulovic carried the child out to the ambulance and told police he lived with the child’s mother but wasn’t related to the child.

Radulovic told detectives the child’s mother was at work at the time.

The child died at the hospital and appeared to have bruising/marks on his face, chest and back.

Police say GRPD detectives, Forensic Services Technicians and personnel from Child Protective Services were called in to investigate.

The Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the child died from head trauma, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 1-year-old Alexander Butler.

During a police interview, detectives said Radulovic made multiple conflicting statements about what happened that morning, but eventually said “I got upset and accidentally did the wrong thing.”

He told investigators he was irritated at the child’s fussiness and slammed the boy onto the ground two or three times before the baby became unresponsive.

Radulovic was arraigned in court on Tuesday where he was denied bond.

Radulovic’s attorney says that he struggles with mental health issues and is requesting counseling and treatment for the mental health disorders.

He’s due in court later this month.

Kelly Turner Sentenced To Prison For Faking Child’s Illness

kelly turner

Kelly Turner is another so called Mother whose abuse of her seven year old daughter led to her death. According to court documents Kelly Turner spent years faking her daughters illness and giving the little girl a ton of medications. On top of Kelly Turner making her daughter’s life a living hell the woman also scammed the community and raised a ton of money telling the community that her daughter was dying from a terminal illness. For whatever the reason Kelly Taylor would be able to plead guilty to child abuse causing death and not second degree murder like she was originally charged with and received a sixteen year prison sentence

Five years after 7-year-old Olivia Gant died in a Denver hospice after being fed only popsicles and juice for 19 days, a judge on Wednesday sentenced her mother to 16 years in prison for causing the girl’s death.

Kelly Turner, 44, pleaded guilty in January to a felony charge of child abuse that negligently caused her daughter’s death. As part of the plea agreement, first-degree murder charges against Turner were dismissed and the prosecution and defense agreed to the 16-year prison term.

Turner also pleaded guilty to felony theft and fraud charges, for which she received a combined 13-year prison sentence to be served at the same time as the 16-year sentence.

Turner was accused of pretending for years that Olivia was sick when she was actually healthy, and was accused of manipulating doctors at Children’s Hospital Colorado into putting Olivia through a series of unnecessary and at times life-threatening procedures. Turner ultimately convinced Olivia’s medical team that Olivia should be discharged to hospice, where she was heavily medicated and given no nutrition until she died.

At the time, some doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital Colorado raised concerns that Turner might be medically abusing Olivia, but the hospital did not alert outside authorities before Olivia died, despite the state’s mandated reporting laws, a Denver Post investigation found. Instead, the hospital investigated with its own internal child protection team, which decided there was no need to alert outside authorities.

“If anybody spoke up and protected Olivia, she would be here today,” her grandfather, Lonnie Gautreau, said in a statement read in court Wednesday. He wept during the sentencing and called for changes to the state’s mandatory reporting laws to help protect other children.

Olivia was a high-profile patient at Children’s Hospital Colorado who was featured in the hospital’s marketing materials. Her mother fed on that attention and status, The Post found. Doctors and caregivers at Children’s Hospital Colorado missed or dismissed several warning signs that Olivia’s supposed illness might not be real, The Post found.

A spokeswoman for the hospital declined to comment on Wednesday’s sentencing. Ara Ohanian, Turner’s public defender, said during the sentencing that Olivia suffered legitimate medical problems and that Turner did not kill the girl.

“She is not guilty of murdering her child,” he said. “The plea we took in this case is negligent child abuse.”

He said the “case turned” when doctors and attorneys from Children’s Hospital Colorado sat down with the defense and talked the attorneys through their decision making. Ohanian then offered a lengthy defense of the doctors’ actions. The hospital in September resolved a $25 million civil claim by Olivia’s family.

Christopher Gallo, 18th Judicial District chief deputy district attorney, said during the sentencing that the plea agreement was “not complete justice, not perfect justice” but was “some level of justice.”

“It is an unfortunate and very frustrating thing that the most insidious crimes a person can commit are also the most difficult to prosecute and prove,” he said.

District Court Judge Patricia Herron imposed the agreed-on sentence and, in a surprise move, also ordered that Turner cannot financially benefit from Olivia’s death in the future.

“Whether that be because of a movie consultation, book consultation or book deals,” Herron said. “…The order is Ms. Turner shall not, and will not for the rest of her life, be allowed to benefit further financially from this case or the facts connected with this case.”

Should such deals generate any money for Kelly Turner, that money must be donated to the charities that she defrauded, Herron said.
