Jean Robert Macean Arrested In Aultman Murders

Jean Robert Macean

Jean Robert Macean has been arrested in the brutal murders of Terry and Brenda Aultman. According to police reports Terry and Brenda Aultman were riding their bikes in Daytona Beach when they were brutally stabbed by an assailant. Daytona Beach police announced today that Jean Robert Macean has been arrested in the double murder. Jean Robert Macean was arrested with help from the Orlando police. Police are still trying to figure out a motive for the brutal murders.

Jean Robert Macean More News

Sara Turner stood inside the Daytona Beach Police Department on Thursday and, through tears, expressed her relief that police had arrested the man accused of killing her mother and stepfather as they headed home on bicycles Sunday from Bike Week.

Jean Robert Macean, 32, was arrested Thursday in Orlando and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said at the press conference.

There are still a lot of unknowns, including a motive for the attack that left Terry Aultman, 48, and Brenda Aultman, 55, dead early Sunday morning at the corner of Riverview Boulevard and North Wild Olive Avenue.

For Sara Turner it was like a horrible dream.

“I didn’t prepare to say anything, because this is a nightmare that I never expected could ever happen. This isn’t real. It doesn’t feel real,” she said.

“I lost my best friend, my mother was the most amazing caring, giving, loving selfless person in the world. And to top it off, she was as funny as could be, and so was her husband. They were both wonderful and happy and loving,” Turner said. “They didn’t deserve what happened to them and I just want to thank every single one of you for all the work you put in to help get this person off the street,” she said as she turned to look back at the officers standing behind her.

“I’m sorry, this is not a person, a monster, get this monster off of the streets so that nobody else would get hurt or have to deal with the pain and the destruction this has caused so many people’s lives that knew them,” Turner said.

“I just thank you guys so much and I really don’t know what else to say, but please just keep our family in your thoughts and prayers and that’ll be, that’ll be it. Thank you.”

Jean Robert Macean will have his first appearance before a judge in Orlando on Friday.

Police said the couple suffered multiple stab wounds and lacerations.

The murders shocked a community and frightened residents who worried about running into the killer on the street.

Young said he wanted to tell residents that everyone could relax some now that the perpetrator was in jail.

“But the main purpose for this press conference today is to inform the residents of this city and the visitors of this city, that the suspect responsible for committing these heinous crimes is in custody, in hopes that everyone can now breathe a sigh of relief,” Young said.

Young said detectives in Orlando were interviewing Macean, but he did not have information yet about what they learned. Young said Jean Robert Macean had made a statement.

Young also said he could not share some details about the investigation; while he said some evidence was recovered, he could not be more specific.

Young thanked his team of detectives and police officers for working hard on the case. He also thanked other agencies for their help: the U.S. Marshals Service, the Orlando Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Young said that Brenda and Terry Aultman had done all they could to keep themselves safe. They weren’t drinking and driving. They rode their bicycles to Bike Week on Main Street. They stuck together as a couple.

“And yet and still, they were attacked and they were murdered. And this is just a reminder of just the evil that exists in our society today,” Young said.

Young said he still believed the attack was random and investigators haven’t determined a motive.

“At this point in time, we still do not have a motive so … it’s still a random, senseless act of violence that should have never occurred,” Young said.

Young said Jean Robert Macean arrived by bus on Saturday in Daytona Beach and departed on Sunday by unknown means.

He said he could not comment on Macean’s mental health history, but said Macean had a minimal criminal history of one felony arrest and two misdemeanor arrests, all drug-related.

Young said he did not have a timeline for when Macean would be returned to Volusia County.

Macean was arrested about 11 a.m. Thursday in Orlando, according to a press release.

Macean was arrested less than 24 hours after Daytona Beach Police offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to arrest in the Aultmans’ murders. Police will make a determination on the reward once they finish reviewing the tips, a press release stated.

In response to a question about what moved Jean Robert Macean from person of interest to being charged and arrested in the killings, Young referred to video.

“Reviewing all of that surveillance video, it kind of painted a picture for us to where we were able to determine that he was our suspect,” Young said.

Police Officer Logan Barr Indicted For Murder

Logan Barr Forest Hill

Forest Hill Police Officer Logan Barr has been indicted for murder in the shooting death of an unarmed suspect. According to police reports the suspect, Michael Lee Ross Jr, had just allegedly stabbed a woman to death and Forest Hill officers tracked him down. Michael Lee Ross Jr who initially refused to drop his knife was standing in a creek when officers opened fire killing Michael Lee Ross Jr. Logan Barr was told by a superior to grab a less than lethal shotgun however Barr would grab a normal shotgun. Texas Rangers would investigate the shooting and determined that Forest Hill Officer Logan Barr should be charged. Logan Barr was initially charged with aggravated assault and put on administrative leave however a Texas grand jury decided to day to indict Logan Barr on a charge of murder. If convicted on the murder charge Logan Barr could face up to 99 years in prison.

Logan Barr More News

A Tarrant County grand jury indicted a Forest Hill police officer on a murder charge Thursday related to the June 2021 death of a murder suspect.

Investigators said Forest Hill police officer Logan Barr fatally shot 32-year-old Michael Lee Ross Jr. even though he posed no threat to the officer or others during a confrontation near a gas station last summer.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 a.m. on June 9 when Forest Hill police responded to a report of a woman who was fatally stabbed in the Quik Trip parking lot at 6549 Wichita Street.

Ross was identified as a suspect in the woman’s death and was found just north of the store in a creek at the bottom of an embankment.

Texas Ranger Eisenhower Upshaw viewed an officer’s body camera video of the incident and gave the following account of what happened in Barr’s arrest warrant.

Ross was standing in the creek holding a knife and refused orders to drop it.

A sergeant fired several shots from a less-than-lethal shotgun but Ross continued holding the knife. The sergeant asked Barr to also get his less-than-lethal shotgun.

Barr retrieved his regular shotgun instead

“Shotgun deployed,” Barr said on the radio.

“Shoot him,” the sergeant told Barr.

Ross was “still unsteady on his feet, with his pants down around his thighs, turning and walking away from the officers’ position,” the Ranger wrote, describing the body-cam video.

About 16 seconds later, Ross turned back around and faced the officers but was still 15-20 feet down a muddy embankment with his hands at his sides.

Barr fired two shots in “quick succession” and Ross collapsed to the ground.

After the incident, Forest Hill police said Ross was shot after he turned toward officers while holding the knife and had tried to harm himself with the knife.

But the Ranger disputed the department’s version of events.

“While watching the video, I did not observe Ross attempting to stab himself, make any verbal threats, raise the knife in a threatening manner toward the officers, attempt to climb the embankment … or make an effort to run,” the Ranger wrote. “Ross did not pose a reasonable and immediate threat.”

Barr was arrested last summer on a charge of aggravated assault by a public servant, booked into the Tarrant County jail, and released on bond about nine hours later.

The grand jury returned their indictment on Thursday.

If convicted of the first-degree felony, Logan Barr faces five to 99 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine. A trial date has not been set.

Damien Marshall More News

A 40-year-old Tampa man is facing first-degree murder charges in connection to the slayings of two women, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The body of Linda Harris was found in an abandoned home in the 1800 block of East Sligh Avenue on Sept. 27. The house was set for demolition, and workers found the 54-year-old Harris’ partially clothed body during a walk-through that morning.

The body showed signs of upper body trauma, and the medical examiner’s office ruled Harris’ death a homicide, the agency said in a news release Thursday.

About five weeks later, Jenny DeLeon’s body was found in Tampa’s Sulphur Springs area. The 25-year-old woman’s body was discovered outside a home near 9th Street North and Fairbanks Avenue around 6 a.m. Nov. 2.

No details of DeLeon’s death were released Thursday, but police said DeLeon’s death also was ruled a homicide.

Detectives determined Damien Marshall was a person of interest in both cases, and evidence collected through the course of the investigation, including DNA, provided probable cause for first-degree murder charges in both cases, according to the release.

Marshall has been in jail since Nov. 16 on charges including failing to report a change of address as a sex offender and failing to report a change of vehicle as a sex offender, police said, and first-degree murder charges now have been added.

The investigations are ongoing.
