An 18-year-old is charged with beating her 70-year-old grandmother to death with a mallet in Mobile County.
Jailen Mia Lupton is being held in jail on a 2nd-degree murder charge.
The incident happened on Saturday at 10355 Beverly Road in Irvington.
Upon arrival, deputies found Diane Marrow Trest dead in her front yard with head trauma, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies observed a mallet near her.
Two individuals reported to deputies that they were “flagged down” by a female who stated Diane Trest had been beaten to death by Jailen Mia Lupton.
“The driver then called 911. Another witness, a neighbor, stated Lupton forced her way into her home, pushed her down, and demanded car keys, claiming she had just killed her grandmother,” a release states.

An 18-year-old woman from Alabama has been charged with murder after deputies found her grandmother’s body in her front yard.
Jailen Mia Lupton, 18, is charged with murder and second-degree burglary in relation to the death of her 70-year-old grandmother, Diane Trest. Witnesses say Lupton beat Trest to death, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
Trest’s body was found Saturday in the front yard of her Irvington home. She had trauma to her head, and deputies say a mallet could be seen nearby.
Investigators say a neighbor told them Lupton forced her way into her home, pushed her down and demanded her car keys. She allegedly declared she had killed her grandmother.
Two other people in a car told deputies they were flagged down by a woman telling them Trest had just been beaten to death by Lupton. The driver then called 911.
Lupton has a bond hearing scheduled for Monday morning.
