A woman is behind bars after Sulphur police said she shot and killed her 1-year-old child.
Kristin Bass killed the girl at a home on Quelqueshue Street on New Year’s Day, Sulphur Police Department spokesman Maj. Jason Gully said. Officers responded to the home after 8 p.m.
The victim’s father, Bradley Moss, identified her as Acelynn Moss.
Moss said he heard a boom and ran into the room to find Bass holding a gun. Acelynn had been shot, and their 2-year-old was crying for help.
“I almost lost two babies. I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God,” he said.
“[My older daughter] said, ‘Help me, Daddy.’ And Kristin said, ‘I just sent our baby to God,’” Moss said. “She said, ‘Now I gotta get her.’”
Moss said the Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the older child.
Bass is jailed on a count of first-degree murder. Her bond was set at $10 million.

A 1-year-old girl was shot and killed Thursday night at a residence in Sulphur, and her mother has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, according to the Sulphur Police Department.
Police said officers were notified of a shooting at a home on Quelqueshue Street around 8:21 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2026. When officers arrived, they learned that a 1-year-old girl had been shot and killed.
An investigation determined the child was shot by her mother, Kristin Bass, according to police. Bass was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Her bond has been set at $10 million.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Sgt. Cain at 337-527-4558, according to the police department.
