Boatman has not faced the death penalty before.

Boatman has said that he “wanted to be a serial killer.”

Chapman was a fellow inmate of Boatman’s. He was set to be released in less than a year when Boatman and William Wells, a killer who carries the moniker ‘The Monster of Mayport,’ strangled and stabbed him.

“I’ve never, never seen anything like that,” a state employee who saw the video of the attack told First Coast News at the time. “They had his body pinned up against the door. They were stabbing everywhere. They stabbed his torso multiple times.”

Wells, Boatman’s accomplice, has been given a death sentence. Prior to Chapman’s death, he was convicted of killing five people at his home in Mayport, including his wife.

The first case Boatman was convicted in was in 2006, when he killed Sante Fe college students Amber M. Peck and John M. Mark Wilson Sentenced To Death By Florida Jury

mark wilson florida death row

A Florida jury has recommended that Mark Wilson be sentenced to death for the murders of two young boys. According to court documents Mark Wilson would beat the two boys, Robert Baker, 12, and Tayten Baker, 14, with a hammer before slitting their throats. When asked why he killed the two young boys Mark Wilson attempted to blame it on being high on meth for three days before the murders. Mark Wilson will attend a special hearing in December 2022 where the judge can either go along with the death recommendation or sentence him to life in prison without parole

Mark Wilson More News

A jury decided Mark Wilson will receive the death penalty for the murder of two Putnam County boys on Friday. The decision came after a five day long sentencing trial.

Wilson was found guilty of first-degree murder earlier this month. According to Florida law, Wilson can only be sentenced to death if the jury chooses it unanimously, which they did.

Wilson was living with the aunt of 14-year-old Tatyen and 12-year-old Robert Baker on the family’s property with his own daughter when he murdered the boys in August 2020.

The Putnam County Sheriff said the crime scene inside the Bakers’ home was one of the worst he’d ever seen. Wilson was convicted of beating Tatyen and Robert in the head with a hammer then slitting their throats.

The boys’ mother, Sarah Baker, testified that the night before the boys were killed, she saw Wilson outside sharpening a knife; that knife would later be matched to the murder weapon.

Wilson’s mother also testified in the trial. In a recorded conversation played in the courtroom, Wilson’s mother begged her son to answer why he killed the boys. In the recorded confession, Wilson tells her he killed them because he felt their family was going to report him and his girlfriend to the Department of Children and Families.

Family described being in the courtroom, just feet away from Wilson, as “unbearable” at times. They wanted the death penalty.

Everett Miller More News

A judge sentenced Everett Miller, the man convicted of murdering Kissimmee police officers Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard nearly five years ago, to death Friday afternoon.

The jury had previously recommended the death penalty, but the defense had argued that Miller, a former Marine, deserved life in prison

On August 17, 2017, Officer Baxter approached some men known for drug activity. Sgt. Howard was there as backup.

Police said Miller shot the two officers in the back of their heads, then flipped them over and posed them before shooting them in their faces.

In 2019, after hearing from the medical examiner and emotional testimony from the responding officers who tried to save Baxter and Howard’s lives, it took jurors less than two hours of deliberations to find Miller guilty of first-degree murder

Miller, who was also found guilty of carrying a concealed firearm in an establishment licensed to dispense alcohol, was sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with credit for 60 days time served. He was also sentenced to 365 days in the Osceola County Jail for resisting an officer without violence, with credit for time served.

All sentences will be served consecutive to one another, the judge said

Sadia Baxter, Matthew Baxter’s widow, is left to raise three young girls and a stepdaughter without their father.

“My girls still don’t have their daddy,” she said.

“We forgive Everett Miller. Although what he did was not right, we forgive him. These girls deserve to live a happy life with no hate. Hate is what got us here,” she said.

Baxter’s sister, Mia, said: “Justice has been served. It’s been a very long process. Our family has endured so much.”

Sadia also spoke on behalf of Sam Howard’s family and said her family miss his smile the most.

Markeith Loyd More News

A judge has sentenced Markeith Loyd to death for the murder of Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton.

The jury recommended death, but the judge made her final decision Thursday morning.

In November, Loyd was found guilty of murder in the death of Clayton, along with aggravated assault and carjacking.

During his trial, Loyd told the judge he never meant to kill Clayton at the Walmart on Princeton Avenue in January 2017. He said she panicked and fired her gun at him.

Loyd was already facing life in prison in the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon.

After the decision, Sheriff John Mina and the Orlando Police Department released statements.

Mina said he was pleased with the decision, adding: “He has caused so much suffering to the families of Lt. Debra Clayton, Sade Dixon, and DFC Norm Lewis.”

The Orlando Police Department said in part: “Although nothing can undo the heartache created by the defendant’s heinous actions, we hope that this brings solace to our community, knowing a dangerous murder will face the highest penalty provided by law.”

“Though this decision may bring a sense of closure, we will never forget Debra’s sacrifice to Orlando Police Department and the City of Orlando.”

Earlier in the week, Loyd was involved in an incident involving corrections officers at the Orange County jail last week, officials say.

County officials say the involved officers sought medical attention and are recovering.

A disciplinary report was generated and the incident is under review. No other details were immediately released.

A judge ruled last week that Loyd is competent to proceed with sentencing for the 2017 murder of Clayton.

David Funchess Florida Execution

David Funchess Florida execution

David Funchess was executed by the State of Florida for the murders of two people. According to court documents David Funchess would stab to death two people during a robbery at a lounge. David Funchess would be arrested, convicted and sentenced to death. David Funchess would be executed by way of the electric chair on April 22 1986

David Funchess More News

A man who was wounded in Vietnam and convicted in the slaying of two bar employees in Jacksonville in 1974 was executed here today in the electric chair.

The convict, David Livingston Funchess, 39 years old, was executed 90 minutes after the United States Supreme Court voted 7 to 2 not to extend a five-hour stay it issued earlier today. He was pronounced dead at 5:11 P.M.

”I feel sorry for his family,” said Madge Stewart, whose father, Clayton Ragan, was killed, along with Anna Waldrop, by Mr. Funchess. ”They’re going to lose a loved one. But they got to see him 11 years longer than I got to see my loved one.”

She and Betti Shupe, the daughter of Mrs. Waldrop, hugged when told that Mr. Funchess was dead.

The execution had been set for 7 A.M. but was stayed by a Federal appeals court in Atlanta. It was later stayed again by the Supreme Court. Convicted in 1975

Mr. Funchess, diagnosed as suffering from stress stemming from duty in Vietnam, was the 56th person executed in the United States since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976, and the third in eight days.

Peter Erlinder, a professor at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minn., who has researched the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on Vietnam veterans, said Mr. Funchess was the first veteran executed despite being diagnosed as suffering from the disorder.

Mr. Erlinger said at least two Vietnam veterans had been acquitted of murder charges after asserting that they suffered from the disorder, which was not recognized until 1980. Mr. Funchess was convicted in 1975.

Mr. Funchess was condemned to die for killing a woman and a man in a holdup Dec. 16, 1974, in a Jacksonville bar, where he worked a year earlier. Served Two and a Half Months

Mr. Funchess’s lawyer, Jeff Thompson, also a Vietnam veteran, had argued that Mr. Funchess was a victim of post-traumatic stress disorder, an affliction said to have affected thousands of veterans who are unable to adjust to civilian life after combat in an unpopular war.

Symptoms include experiencing flashbacks and suppressing memories of violence.

David Funchess was 19, had no criminal record and had graduated in the top third of his high school class when he was drafted in 1967. He was wounded when he stepped on a land mine after serving two and a half months and was then discharged.

Vernon Bradford, a spokesman for the State Department of Corrections, said Mr. Funchess’s parents, Wenis Funchess and Alice Roberts; his wife, Christine, and three sisters and two brothers visited him from late Monday until early today
