According to court documents John Hamm was involved in an argument with his two roommates, 46-year-old Robert Hall and 41-year-old Shannon Larock, over rent money when the argument turned violent. John Hamm would beat and stab his two roommates to death. Hamm had faced the death penalty early on for the double murders however that was taken off the table. A St. Louis County man convicted last month for stabbing and beating his two roommates to death in 2016 has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 48-year-old John Hamm was sentenced Friday. On Feb. 4, a jury convicted Hamm of two counts each of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and one count of auto theft.
Police say Hamm confessed to killing 46-year-old Robert Hall and 41-year-old Shannon Larock on July 12, 2016, after an argument over rent money. The defense conceded that Hamm killed the victims, but had argued the killings were not premeditated, which is required for a first-degree murder conviction.

John Hamm, 48, was convicted Friday of two counts each of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and one count of stealing a motor vehicle, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Hamm confessed to killing Robert Hall, 46, and Shannon Larock, 41, on July 12, 2016, at a home they shared.
His attorneys conceded during the trial that Hamm killed the victims but said the deaths were not premeditated, which is required for a first-degree murder conviction.
The prosecutors argued Hamm acted with “cool deliberation” before killing the victims.
