A man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his grandmother with a skateboard in Hudson, Massachusetts.
Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said that a 911 call came in just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday from Munson Street from a woman who said her brother was attacking her with a skateboard.
Moments later, another call came in saying that he had begun to allegedly attack their 90-year-old grandmother with the skateboard. Ryan said that the man, identified as 29-year-old Devin Dube, attacked his grandmother, his sister, and his father, who all lived at the home. Dube fled before officers arrived.
About 45 minutes after the first 911 call came in, Dube was reported running around a property on Tower Street. He was found hiding in a van and arrested.
All three victims were taken to nearby hospitals. Dube’s grandmother, identified as Elaine Dube, died from her injuries at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. The sister and father suffered non-life-threatening injuries to their faces and upper torso and have since been released.
“This is a senseless tragedy and our thoughts are with everyone impacted during this incredibly difficult time,” said Hudson Police Chief Richard DiPersio.
Neighbors said that Elaine Dube was a “sweetheart.”
Ryan said the whole family lived in the home on Munson Street in separate apartments. She said that Hudson Police had been in contact with Dube before, and specified that it had never been domestic.
Devin Dube was charged with murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Dube was arraigned in Marlboro District Court on Wednesday and underwent a psychological evaluation by forensic psychologist Dr. Hilary Novak. Dr. Novak said that Dube has a history of schizophrenia and was experiencing auditory hallucinations during her evaluation.
Dr. Novak said she was unsure that Dube was competent to stand trial at this point. As a result, he will undergo a 20-day evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital. Dube will return to court on April 17.
Police Chief DiPersio said that the attack was not random. It is not clear what led up to the altercation. The investigation is ongoing.

A Hudson man has been ordered to undergo a competency evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital after he was accused of beating his 90-year-old grandmother to death with a skateboard on March 31.
Devin Dube, 29, was arraigned on Wednesday, April 1, in Marlborough District Court in connection with the slaying of Elaine Dube, which authorities say happened at about 3 p.m. Tuesday at their 10 Munson St. home.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said during a press conference on Wednesday that Devin Dube struck his grandmother several times in the head with a skateboard. Dube also allegedly assaulted his father and sister before fleeing the home after the attack.
Ryan said authorities do not know what led to the attack. She said Dube’s father and sister were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
“This is an ongoing investigation,” Ryan said. “We are obviously fairly early in the investigation.”
Forensic psychologist Hillary Novak performed an initial competency exam on Wednesday in court. Novak told Judge Pacifico DeCaupa that she had previously evaluated Dube in 2023, saying he had a history of schizophrenia and of not taking his medications. Novak said Dube told her he was having auditory hallucinations on Tuesday.
“With everything I’ve seen, it leaves me to question his competency to stand trial,” Novak said.
Novak recommended that Dube be sent for further evaluations. Her request was not challenged by either prosecutor Whitney Williams or defense attorney Derenge Demisse.
Williams had requested Dube be held without bail. She did not provide details during the arraignment about what led to the alleged attack, only to say that Dube struck his grandmother with the skateboard several times and she suffered several “cranial and facial” injuries that led to her death
Demisse did not argue for bail, reserving his right until the next hearing.
DeCaupa ordered Dube be held without bail and that he be sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for further evaluation. Dube is due back in court on April 17 for a probable cause hearing.
Demisse could not be immediately reached for comment.

Ryan said Dube left the home after the alleged attacks. He was found about 45 minutes later hiding in a van after a resident called 911 about Dube being in their yard.

“There is no ongoing threat to the public,” he said during Wednesday’s press conference. “It appears to have been contained in the home. This is not a random act of violence.”
