A Texas woman was convicted of capital murder Monday for killing a pregnant woman to take her unborn baby.

A Bowie County jury in northeast Texas deliberated about an hour before finding Taylor Rene Parker, 29, guilty of the October 2020 murder of Reagan Michelle Simmons-Hancock, 21, and the abduction of the daughter cut from her womb who later died.

The verdict of a jury of six men and six women came after three weeks of sometimes grisly testimony.

Parker’s attorneys argued that the baby was never alive and moved to dismiss a kidnapping charge, which would have lowered the capital murder charge to murder.

“That’s why in opening statements we spent so much time on definitions. You can’t kidnap a person who has not been born alive,” said Jeff Harrelson in his final argument to the jury.

Prosecutors said, however, that several medical professionals testified the infant had a heartbeat when born. They also recounted Parker’s actions leading to the day Simmons-Hancock was killed.

“We have methodically laid out what she (Parker) did, why she did it, all the moving parts, and all the collateral damage. The best evidence the state of Texas has that baby was born alive is that Taylor Parker said it wasn’t,” said prosecutor Kelley Crisp.

Fellow prosecutor Lauren Richards recounted all of the masquerades Parker performed for different people, including the pregnancy she faked leading up to the killing.

“In the past two weeks, the evidence has never been more clear,” Assistant District Attorney Lauren Richards told the jury. “She’s a liar, a manipulator, and now she’s gonna be held accountable for it.”

She reminded the jury of how Reagan was beaten in the head at least five times with such force that the blows compressed her skull into her brain.

“The pain Reagan must have felt when Taylor started cutting her abdomen, hip to hip … indescribable,” Richards said. “When Taylor had the baby and Reagan was still alive, that’s when Taylor started slashing and cutting. She can’t leave her alive. It was no quick death. She just kept cutting her. I guess Reagan would not die fast enough for Taylor to get out of there and get on with her plans.”

The punishment phase has been scheduled to begin Oct. 12. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, although jurors may opt for a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.

According to police reports Bolanle Fadairo would fatally shoot the victim after the two had arranged a meeting and then Fadairo would drive off in a vehicle with a two year old boy in the backseat. Ultimately Bolanle Fadairo would abandon the car and the little boy would die from heat related injuries. Bolanle Fadairo is trying to tell police that he and the victim had known each other for decades an argument broke out at their meet. Bolanle Fadairo More News

Houston police have arrested and charged a suspect in the deadly shooting of a man and his two-year-old son who was found in a vehicle hours later.

Bolanle Fadairo, 38, is charged with two counts of murder and one count of tampering with evidence in the 482nd State District Court.

Officers responded to a shooting on the afternoon of September 20 in the parking lot of a business at 5501 El Camino Del Rey Street where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators later learned that Fadairo had met with the victim at this location. The two spoke briefly before Fadairo shot the victim, Houston police said. The victim tried to flee the scene but collapsed in the parking lot. Fadairo then entered the victim’s black Chevrolet Traverse and fled the scene, police said.

Just after 6:30 p.m., a woman reported her husband and 2-year-old son missing. She provided police with her husband’s vehicle information and officers found the vehicle in the 5900 block of Elm Street around 7:10 p.m.

Officers broke the vehicle’s window and found an unresponsive 2-year-old boy inside. Paramedics tried to revive the boy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His cause of death was pending the results of an autopsy.

Investigators identified Fadairo as a suspect and arrested him around 4 a.m. Wednesday without incident. Police released surveillance footage Tuesday of a suspect in connection with the shooting, but it was not immediately clear if the suspect in the video is Fadairo.

Fadairo appeared in probable cause court Thursday morning where his bond was set at $750,000 for each murder charge and $50,000 for the tampering with evidence charge, FOX 26 reported.

According to allegations read in court, Fadairo said he and the victim – whom he had known for around 30 years – had gotten into a heated argument over money. He also allegedly said he deleted some incriminating text messages between himself and the man detailing their argument.

The jury convicted Guidry of Injury to a Child on Friday, August 26th. She had been charged with Capital Murder, but prosecutors weren’t seeking the death penalty if she’d been convicted on that charge.

According to doctors, the little girl suffered blunt force trauma to the head, broken bones, bruises, and burns. Investigators say the abuse had gone on for some time prior to her death.

Leiyla Cepeda Teen Killer Murders Newborn

Leiyla Cepeda

Leiyla Cepeda is an alleged teen killer who would murder her newborn soon after giving birth to the little girl. According to police reports Leiyla Cepeda, who was seventeen at the time of the murder, would give birth to a little girl and then proceeded to stab the newborn to death with a pair of scissors. Leiyla Cepeda who is from Texas was in Colorado when the murder took place. Leiyla Cepeda who is now eighteen years old is now facing murder charges and will be tried as an adult.

Leiyla Cepeda More News

A teen mother is accused of stabbing her newborn daughter to death, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

Leiyla Cepeda, 18, of Texas was arrested and charged Friday with two counts of first-degree murder. She was 17 years old at the time of the alleged crime and has been charged as an adult, according to the district attorney’s office.

Cepeda’s arrest affidavit shows officers with Nunn and Ault police departments were dispatched around 3:08 a.m. Wednesday to a home in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue in Nunn for a death investigation. Responding officers learned there had been a child birth, and the baby had possible stab wounds, the affidavit states.

Leiyla Cepeda told responding medical personnel that she wasn’t feeling well and that her family did not know she was pregnant, arrest documents show. She said she delivered the baby, who was not breathing, and used a small pair of scissors to cut the umbilical cord before going to shower, the affidavit says.

According to the affidavit, officers noticed what appeared to be stab wounds to the torso and chest of the deceased newborn. Officers also found a small pair of scissors, which appeared to have dried blood on them, according to the affidavit.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist in the investigation, and Cepeda was taken to a hospital for treatment.

In an interview with investigators, Cepeda said she thought she was pregnant but wasn’t sure, according to the affidavit. She told investigators she had several periods and took a pregnancy test, which came out negative, the affidavit says.

During the interview, Cepeda said she started having really bad cramps and contractions and explained that around 1:30 a.m., she felt the baby might be ready to come out and she could feel it crowning, the affidavit states.

Cepeda told investigators that roughly 40 minutes later, she felt like she had to push. Per arresting documents, Cepeda said she stood up and “[the baby] fell out of me.” The baby, a girl, was quiet and not moving, Cepeda said, according to the affidavit.

Cepeda told investigators the umbilical cord had ripped and the baby fell out head first; the baby’s face was purple and she wasn’t crying or moving, according to the affidavit.

The teen told police she then rolled the baby up in a towel and left her covered with a sweater, went to her closet to get a pair of scissors to cut part of the umbilical cord, then went to take a shower, according to the affidavit.

During questioning, Cepeda denied harming the newborn, according to the affidavit.

An autopsy was performed on the newborn and determined she was born alive, the affidavit states. The coroner noted “a significant number of puncture wounds” to the baby’s chest, rib cage and abdomen.

The coroner determined the baby died of multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death to be a homicide, arresting documents show.

Cepeda is currently in custody at a local hospital. A court date has not yet been set.
