Jarid Haddock Other News

An “armed and dangerous” suspect is on the run in Washington state after killing at least three people at a Circle K convenience store early Tuesday in an apparent “random” shooting, authorities said.

The shooting happened at the store in Yakima around 3:30 a.m. on Nob Hill Boulevard, Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray said during a briefing at the scene.

“This is a dangerous person, and it’s random, so there is a danger to the community,” Murray said. “We don’t have a motive and we don’t know why.”

Murray said the suspect, whom police later identified as 21-year-old Yakima County resident Jarid Haddock, walked into the store and fatally shot two people without provocation.

“It appears to be a random situation,” the chief said. “There was no apparent conflict between the parties. The male just walked in and started shooting.”

The suspect left the store and shot a third victim, who also died, police said.

The suspect then walked across the street to a gas station where police believe he shot into a gray or silver Chrysler 200 with a person inside before fleeing, according to Murray.

It was unclear whether the person inside the vehicle was shot or injured in the incident.

Jarid Haddock Suicide

Three people were shot and killed at a Circle K store in Yakima early Tuesday.

At 3:30 a.m., police received a call about a man who was shooting people at a Circle K on 18th Street and Nob Hill Boulevard, according to Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray.

Police arrived to find three people dead inside and outside the store.

Initially, officers believed there may have been another shooting victim in the parking lot of an ampm/Arco across the street, where the gunman had fired into a vehicle, but later said new information indicated there may not be a fourth victim.

Police said that after shooting into the vehicle, the gunman stole it and fled eastbound on Highway 24 toward Moxee. The car is a gray or silver sedan, possibly a Chrysler 200.

At 9:17 a.m., Yakima police said the presumed homicide suspect is Jarid Haddock, a 21-year-old Yakima County man who was considered armed and dangerous.

Murray said the shooting appeared to be random and there was no apparent conflict before the man walked into the convenience store and started shooting.

Investigators have video from the Circle K and are collecting other surveillance videos in the area.

At 2:16 p.m, officers received a 911 call from a woman that said the suspect had used her phone. The suspect called his mother, where he made incriminating statements, and according to Yakima police, the suspect said that he “killed those people.”

The 911 caller said the suspect said he was going to kill himself. The woman said the suspect was near a Pizza Hut, next door to a Target in Yakima.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect at a marijuana store behind the Target, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Karon Blake 13 Year Old Shot And Killed In Washington DC

Karon Blake Washington DC

Karon Blake was a thirteen year old from Washington DC who was fatally shot and killed for allegedly breaking into a car. According to police reports an unidentified person believe he saw Karon Blake trying to break into his car and fired his weapon which would kill the thirteen year old boy. The only thing we know about the actual shooter is that he is a black male. The shooter has not been arrested nor charged with any crime so far.

After the shooting the unidentified male would call 911 and was performing CPR on Karon Blake when they arrived. Needless to say this particular case is causing quite the reaction with people demanding that police release the name of the shooter however the police have said his name will not be released unless he is charged criminally.

Karon Blake More News

Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to address the deadly shooting of 13-year-old Karon Blake, along with what Robert Contee III called “dangerous, reckless” misinformation being shared about the case.

Police have said a resident on Quincy Street Northeast shot and killed Karon Blake early Saturday morning after the man allegedly saw the teen trying to break into cars in the neighborhood

“There has been too much misinformation swirling around this incident,” Contee said. “Too many people have made assumptions about this case, and it’s unfair to the grieving family. Spreading of misinformation is dangerous, reckless, and has the potential to adversely impact the investigation and the relationships in our community.”

Contee specifically called out social media posts that he said point to people with “no connections to this case.”

“It is obviously very unfortunate we have had a loss of life in this case, but we have to make sure we get this right,” Contee said. “People are rushing to judgment, canvassing communities, looking for a suspect. That’s not right!”

The chief’s update comes amid a growing call for accountability in the case, with many community members saying the man who shot Karon Blake should be behind bars. People have also called for the man’s name to be released publicly.

Contee did not identify the shooter, saying that typically would not happen until an arrest warrant is issued.

“I can tell you that the person is an African American person, I can tell you it is an adult, and I can tell you it is a male,” Contee said, adding that the man is also “not law enforcement.”

Beyond that, Contee released very little new information, saying he didn’t want to “jeopardize the integrity of the case” while MPD detectives continue their investigation, working closely with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Contee said the man who said he fired the shots called 911. MPD had also previously stated that when officers arrived on the scene the man was performing CPR on Karon Blake. Asked if the man called 911 before or after the shooting, Contee said he believes it was after.

He added that the man is now represented by counsel in the case.

“We want to make sure we go through the process so that we get it right. It’s not about getting it done fast, it’s about getting it done right,” Contee said. “Making sure that if there is a person to be arrested, that we do it the right way.”

Police had previously said there was no indication Karon Blake was armed. They also said the shooter’s gun was a registered firearm.

“He is licensed to carry a concealed weapon, as well as he has a firearm registered with his home,” Contee said Tuesday.

So what, if anything, could allow this shooting to be justifiable in the District of Columbia? Contee was asked that question during Tuesday’s news conference.

“That’s part of the investigation, and as we go through the investigation, that’s the piece we have to get to the bottom of, in terms of what happened. Now, the person has to be in fear of their life or the life of another,” Contee explained. “Those are the facts that we have to sift through to figure out, did that happen?”

Ultimately, Contee said it will be up to a grand jury in D.C.

“Based on the information we have, we present that information to a grand jury to see if that’s reasonable,” Contee said. “That’s not a Chief Contee call, that’s not a U.S. Attorney’s Office call. That’s something that will be put to the grand jury in the District of Columbia, to make that determination.”

On Tuesday, 7News also spoke to a man who identified himself as Karon Blake’s grandfather.

“This should never have happened. You should’ve called the police,” he said, of the man who allegedly shot Blake early Saturday morning. “You don’t need to shoot him. And then you shot more than once. That doesn’t make sense. How are you going to shoot someone more than once? An unarmed, young black man, a child, and you shoot him three or four times. For what?”

He believes the man who fired the fatal shot should be in jail.

“To be honest when they told me it happened Saturday and the guy wasn’t arrested, I said whoa. Why not?,” Blake’s grandfather said. “It can’t bring my grandson back, but it would bring a little comfort to the family. This can’t go unsolved.”

Contee urged the community to be patient and respectful as the “judicial process” plays out.

“MPD’s investigation continues to be active and ongoing. This process takes time,” Contee said. “Our detectives are gathering all of the facts and evidence so it can be presented to the United States Attorney’s Office and ultimately to a grand jury of D.C. residents to make a judicial determination if there was criminal intent, and if a crime occurred.”

7News also obtained a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office:

“The investigation into Karon Blake’s tragic death is ongoing. As with any pending matter, it would be improper and imprudent to comment any further at this time. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is committed to thoroughly investigating this matter.”

Matthew Greenwood and Jeremy Crahan More News

Two Puyallup men have been charged in attacks at four Pierce County power substations that left thousands in the dark on Christmas.

Matthew Greenwood, 32, and Jeremy Crahan, 40, are charged with conspiracy to damage energy facilities and possession of an unregistered firearm, according to U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, Nick Brown.

The men were arrested on Saturday following an investigation by the FBI.

The four substations that were vandalized were the Graham and Elk Plain substations operated by Tacoma Power and the Kapowsin and Hemlock substations operated by Puget Sound Energy.

Power was cut to more than 14,000 customers. All of the attacks happened in the middle of the night, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Darren Moss, Jr.

The damage to the Tacoma Power substations alone is estimated to be at least $3 million.

The men were identified as possible suspects through cellphone records and surveillance video.

At one substation, Tacoma Power recorded images of one man and a pickup truck that appeared to be connected to the attack. A similar truck was found to be connected to the suspects, according to the Justice Department.

In addition, distinctive clothing seen in the surveillance photos was found during a search of the men’s home.

Agents also seized two unregistered short-barreled guns. One of the weapons was equipped with a makeshift silencer.

Both men will appear in U.S. District Court in Tacoma on Tuesday, where prosecutors will ask that the suspects remain detained at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac pending future hearings.

Conspiracy to attack energy facilities is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Possession of an unregistered firearm is punishable by up to ten years in prison

Landlord Michael Dudley Convicted In Suitcase Murders

Michael Dudley

Landlord Michael Dudley decided the best way to get rid of two of his tenets was to murder them, dismember their bodies and stuff them into suitcases before throwing them into a lake. According to court documents Michael Dudley would fatally shoot two of his tenets, Jessica Lewis and boyfriend Austin Wenne, in 2020. After the young couple were fatally shot Michael Dudley would dismember the bodies in order to make the remains fit inside of two suitcases before throwing the luggage into a lake which would later wash up on shore.

Michael Dudley would be arrested and his cell phone data showed that he was at the same beach the day before the young couple washed up. Throw in a neighbour who heard gunshots on the night of the double murder and it was enough to convict Dudley of the double murder

Michael Dudley More News

A landlord accused of killing two tenants in 2020 was found guilty of four counts of second-degree murder on Thursday.

Michael Dudley, 62, killed Jessica Lewis, 35, and Austin Wenner, 27. The remains of Lewis and Wenner were found in bags on Alki on June 19, 2020.

Court documents allege Dudley dismembered Lewis and Wenner after killing them, separated their bodies into multiple bags and tried to hide them in different bodies of water.

“This process would have taken a lot of time and effort and his willingness to take these extreme steps demonstrates the threat he poses to the community,” charging documents read.

This was done “likely with the aid of others,” according to charging documents. Dr. Kathy Taylor, Washington state forensic anthropologist, told Seattle police she believed there were possibly multiple people involved, because the cuts on Lewis and Wenner’s bodies were “disorganized” and done in different manners with different apparatuses.

Lewis and Wenner were renting a room in Dudley’s Burien home, and court documents indicate they got into a dispute over rent money.

Investigators said that 10 days before the bodies were discovered in West Seattle, neighbors heard yelling and gunshots at Dudley’s home, but Dudley did not answer the door when Burien police responded.

After the guilty conviction, the mother of Wenner said she felt justice was served and that people in Seattle are now better protected.

“The world is a safer place without Michael Dudley in it,” Charleen Kriens said. “Everybody can rest easy tonight because of that.”

Kriens added that this conviction will allow the families to find healing and that the memories of Austin and Jessica will not be forgotten.

“My son is shining down from up above and saying, ‘You got it mom,'” said Kriens.

Michael Dudley Other News

Washington state jury on Thursday found a landlord guilty of killing two tenants and stuffing their dead bodies into suitcases.

The jury decision comes after Michael Dudley, 64, killed both Jessica Lewis and boyfriend Austin Wenne. The couple’s bodies washed ashore inside suitcases on Alki Beach in Seattle in 2020, according to FOX 13.

A neighbor reported gunshots in Burien, Washington on June 9, 2020 as well as a man pleading for his life, but officers didn’t find anyone in the home. When asked by police, Dudley couldn’t explain why he wouldn’t answer the door for police.

Using cell phone data, officials learned that Lewis stopped sending texts on the night of the alleged shooting. Also using cell phone data, the landlord, Dudley, was found to have been near Alki Beach just one day before officials discovered the suitcase with the bodies inside.

Prosecutors didn’t have eyewitnesses to directly link the landlord to the murders, but relied on evidence that they argued proved Dudley’s guilt, and pointed toward the neighbor.

Lewis and Wenne were both Dudley’s tenants

Prosecutors said that Wenne was shot at least one time and Lewis was shot at least twice before the couple was mutilated and put into suitcases.

Lawyers for the landlord argued that the 62-year-old wasn’t capable of pulling the crime off.

Lewis’ aunt, Gina Jaschke, said that she has trouble looking at Dudley.

“I’m just hopeful his reign of terror comes to an end,” said Jaschke. “I just look at him and I can’t imagine what he’s done to them. It’s hard, really hard.”
