A pre-med student at the University of Florida is in custody after calling 911 on Saturday afternoon and admitting to stabbing his mother to death, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

During a press briefing on Saturday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that just after 2 p.m., Emmanuel Espinoza, 21, who is a pre-med student at the University of Florida, drove to his mother’s house on Saturday afternoon and stabbed her to death.

Sheriff Judd said that Espinonza was driving from Gainesville to Frostproof for a family event for one of his grandparents when the altercation happened. Espinzona asked his mother if he could stay with her and she agreed.

“He knocked on the front door and when mom opened the door, he began to stab her and he stabbed her many times. She ran from him, she was talking to a family member on the phone and in addition to that, he stabbed her till she fell down and died,” Sheriff Judd described.

Sheriff Judd continued saying that Espinoza admitted everything to them when asked why he did it.

“He said, “you know, I have wanted to kill my mother for many, many years cause she got on my nerves,” Sheriff Judd said, explaining what Espinoza said when asked why he killed his mom.

Espinoza told deputies that he decided that today was the day he was going to act on his feelings.

“We asked him, ‘what’s your relationship with your mother?’ And he said it was about 8 out of 10 that he really loved her, but she irritated him. And he made up his mind today, on his way from Gainesville, that he would murder her and that’s exactly what he did”, Sheriff Judd said.

Sheriff Judd added that Espinoza called 911 following the murder, confessed to the crime, and is now in custody. He is also cooperating with authorities, Sheriff Judd said.

Sheriff Judd called the murder a “truly horrible event.”

“Elvia Espinoza was 46 years old and a second grade teacher at Ben Hill Griffin Elementary School in Frostproof and is well-loved by the community. It’s a very sad day, with an inexplicable, vicious murder. Her family, friends, students and colleagues at the school and with Polk County Public Schools are in our prayers,” Sheriff Judd said.

Espinoza was booked into the Polk County Jail and is being charged with first degree murder.

Chase Jones Charged With 4 Counts Of Vehicular Homicide

chase jones car crash

Chase Jones is an eighteen year old from Washington State who has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide

According to police reports Chase Jones allegedly was racing up to 112 mph when his vehicle slammed into a minivan killing Buster Brown, 12, Eloise Wilcoxson, 12, Matilda Wilcoxson, 13, and Andrea Hudson, 38.

The brutal car crash would also leave two others with serious injuries

Chase Jones would break his arms and legs in the crash

Chase Jones who has a history of speeding and car accidents has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault, and one count of reckless driving.

Despite the seriousness of the charges the Judge in the case set the bond at $100,000 and placed him under house arrest and obviously banned him from driving

Jones has plead not guilty to all charges

Chase Jones News

An 18-year-old involved in a car crash that killed a woman and three children in Washington state has pleaded not guilty to charges related to their deaths.

Chase Daniel Jones appeared in court virtually while laying in a hospital bed recovering from the deadly collision on Monday, April 1. He entered a not-guilty plea to four counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault and one count of reckless driving, according to local news stations KOMO News, KIRO 7 and KING 5.

Andrea Hudson, 38, was driving a van with five children, including two of her own, when the high-speed accident, which involved four vehicles, occurred in King County shortly before 1 p.m. on March 19, the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) said. Hudson, along with Matilda Wilcoxson, 13, Eloise Wilcoxson, 12, and Boyd Brown, 12, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hudson’s children, Nolan and Charlotte Hudson, were critically injured in the accident and were taken to a local hospital. One other person was treated for minor injuries, sheriffs said.

Per court documents cited by KOMO News, Jones is accused of driving at 112 mph and running a red light, crashing into the van in the “incredibly violent collision” that “immediately killed” the victims. The documents also state that Jones has been involved in three car crashes where speeding was a factor within the last year. In last month’s deadly incident, he was driving a 2015 Audi A4 that he had just bought weeks before. It marked the third car he “totaled in a crash involving speed in 11 months,” court documents alleged.

Amy J. Freedheim, senior deputy prosecuting attorney for King’s County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, wrote in the filing that Jones “was witnessed speeding and weaving around other traffic and using the shared turn lane to pass.”

She added, “His driving has been also captured on videos. Witnesses were alerted to his aggressive driving and excessive speeding on the 40mph posted road. Crash data from his vehicle corroborates the witness.”

During Monday’s hearing, Jones’ attorney, Bradley G. Barshis said the teenager “is not out there stealing cars, having a gun, intentionally trying to commit a violent crime. This is an allegation in which my client may have made a dumb mistake by driving above the speed limit. That’s the allegation.”

Jones’ bail was set at $100,000. Should he post bail, the court recommended for him to be on house arrest less than 24 hours after he is discharged from the hospital. He is banned from driving.

It could be a while before Jones is out of the hospital, Barshis, noting that he sustained broken arms and legs, and was just taken off of a breathing tube, per KOMO News.

According to the news station, Matilda and Eloise’s father, Chace Wilcoxson, also spoke during the hearing. “Your honor, I don’t have evidence of remorse or of his home environment being the right environment for him to heal and change and become the man that he should become,” Wilcoxson said of Jones.

He continued, “I don’t have hard evidence, but I’m confident that I personally have seen this car driven recklessly days and weeks before this accident. I don’t think that this was just a dumb mistake.”

PEOPLE reached out to Jones’ attorney, Bradley G. Barshis, and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for comment.

GoFundMe accounts have been set up for the Hudson, Wilcoxson and Brown families.

Michael Smith News

An Oklahoma man is scheduled to be executed Thursday, April 4, for two separate murders in 2002 in Oklahoma City.

Michael DeWayne Smith will be put to death by lethal injection for killing Janet Moore and Sharath Pulluru in separate shootings on the same day in 2002.

Moore was 40 years old and a mother from Oklahoma City. Smith told police he went to the victim’s apartment looking for her son, and shot Moore because she wouldn’t be quiet.

Pulluru was a 24-year-old store clerk when Smith killed him on the same day at a convenience store where he worked.

Clemency was denied for Smith during a hearing in March. His attorney has argued Smith is intellectually disabled and shouldn’t be put to death. He also claims Smith was not in his right mind at the time of the murders.

Smith is only one of 10 percent of death row inmates in the country who is convicted of multiple killings.

Smith will be the first person executed in Oklahoma this year. The execution is set for 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Anton Rucker, the gunman accused of killing one at Easter Sunday brunch at a coffee shop in Nashville, has a lengthy criminal history, Fox 17 reported.

Metro Nashville Police said Rucker is still on the run and is now on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s (TBI) Most Wanted list following the shooting that left 33-year-old Allen Beachem dead.

Fox 17 uncovered that Rucker has an extensive rap sheet, which includes multiple convictions for aggravated assault, evading police and selling drugs.

According to a criminal background report from TBI, Rucker’s convictions go back to 1997 and get increasingly serious over the years. He was most recently arrested in Rutherford County this past October, and is now facing three counts of selling drugs, Fox 17 reported

“He has agg assault convictions in Nashville and was arrested in Murfreesboro on felony drug charges last 10/31, and on agg assault and gun charges last August,” the Metro Nashville Police Department posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The TBI said Rucker is considered armed and dangerous. They are also offering an award of up to $2,500 for any information leading to his whereabouts.

On Monday morning, police revealed that the Mercedes believed to belong to Rucker was located during the night. Detectives are continuing to work to find Rucker, who police said was still as large as of Monday evening.

Police said the shooting happened around 3 p.m. when Rucker opened fire inside the coffee shop, striking five people and killing one man.

“There was an altercation between two men at Roasted. Sunday brunch was being served. During that time period, the altercation occurred and escalated, very sharply, to one of the men pulling a gun and firing multiple shots,” said Don Aaron of the Metro police at a press conference on Sunday.

Roasted Salemtown, the restaurant where the shooting took place, issued a statement regarding the shooting.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred Easter Sunday at Roasted Salemtown. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. We are cooperating and trusting authorities as they continue the investigation of this heinous crime,” the restaurant wrote in a post on Facebook.

“We stand with Mayor O’Connell, Councilman Jacob Kupin, and the City of Nashville in combating the gun violence in our community. Our Roasted family will continue our commitment to supporting our community and providing an authentic cultural dining experience,” owner and head chef Ericka Fizer said.

Adan Tzoyohua Panzo Murders 2 Daughters

Adan Tzoyohua Panzo

Adan Tzoyohua Panzo is an alleged killer from Georgia who would set fire to a vehicle with his two young daughters locked inside

According to police reports Adan Tzoyohua Panzo was involved in an argument with his wife and following the argument would lock his two daughters, aged one and three, inside of a vehicle and then proceeded to set the vehicle on fire

When firefighters arrived at the Preston Georgia home they would put out the vehicle fire and make the horrific discovery inside of the vehicle

Adan Tzoyohua Panzo would be arrested and has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, and arson

Adan Tzoyohua Panzo News

A man has been arrested in connection to the death of his daughters in Webster County.

On Saturday, March 30, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested Adan Tzoyohua Panzo, 36, of Preston. He has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, and arson, according to the GBI.

Webster County officials initially responded to reports of a vehicle on fire at a home on Millard Kennedy Road in Preston.

“My guys were told on the way to the call that there was two children in the car. They got on scene, pulled lines, and extinguished the fire,” Cody Brown, Webster County Fire Chief, said.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office then asked the GBI to investigate the deaths of Panzo’s 1-year-old and 3-year-old daughters.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Panzo after allegations that he set the vehicle on fire during a domestic dispute with his wife, the GBI said in a statement.

We’re still working to find out who called the fire in, but by the time the fire crew arrived, it was too late to save the children.

“It’s really sad to hear that a one year old and a three year old lost their life,” a resident in the community, said. “They’re not even out in the world just yet. They’re not even able to understand or comprehend what was going on. I couldn’t imagine what they were feeling during that situation.”

Panzo is currently at the Webster County Jail.

In this small town just a few miles west of Plains, streets were quiet but families were together in churches and in homes. Everyone seemed to know about the horrific incident that happened Saturday night.

“I don’t know how fast the fire took off or if they suffered or if they wasn’t suffering… I don’t know it’s just really sad to hear about. If that was my mother that would break her,” a resident in the community, said.

After speaking with some people who live here in Webster County they say this is a small close knit community where you don’t hear news like this often. Especially Easter weekend.

GBI agents, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Webster County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 828-7503 or the GBI regional office in Americus at (229) 931-2439. Anonymous tips can be given by calling 1-800-597-8477, by clicking here, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something app.
