A Texas man who allegedly opened fire on a driver he believed was tailgating him before following him into a high school parking lot has been charged with murder.

Jason Bartik, 45, is currently in custody on $750,000 bond after being charged with the murder of 34-year-old Robert Taylor. According to a press release from the Frisco Police Department, officers responded to a call about a shooting that took place in the parking lot of Frisco High School, which is located directly across the street from the police station. When police arrived, they found Taylor on the ground with several gunshot wounds. He was brought to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local NBC affiliate KXAS, Bartik was the one who made the 911 call, saying that the alleged incident happened due to road rage.

Police said in the arrest affidavit that Bartik called 911 at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday saying that he had been involved in a road rage incident that ended in the parking lot of Frisco High School. When police spoke with Bartik, he reportedly told them that Taylor was tailgating him while the two men were driving on the highway nearby. In response, Bartik brake-checked him.

Bartik told police that he drove off the highway and into the parking lot of the school, and Taylor reportedly followed him. According to what Bartik told police, Taylor got out of his car and “approached [Bartik’s] driver side window yelling at him.” Taylor then reportedly “reached through the window and punched [Bartik] in the face.”

According to the affidavit, Bartik told police he then allegedly retrieved his gun and fired at least two shots at Taylor, who then fell to the ground, where he was found lying face down by first responders.

Lifesaving measures were attempted to save Taylor’s life, but he died at the hospital.

After detaining Bartik at the scene, officers arrested him and charged him with murder following an investigation into the alleged shooting. According to police, there were no students involved in the incident.

Bartik is being held at the Collin County Jail.
