Mason And Brooklyn Grimes News
Two people are facing multiple charges in the death of an infant in Blount County.
Around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, 36-year-old Mason Grimes and 31-year-old Brooklyn Grimes, both of Horton, were booked into the Blount County Jail, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
The pair was charged with capital murder of a child under the age of 15, felony murder and aggravated child abuse.
Court documents filed Wednesday evening identify Mason Grimes as the child’s foster father.
Those documents state that on Aug. 5, 2022, the child, then 3 months old, was placed into Grimes custody where they “remained and flourished” for about a year.
Then, on Sep. 25, 2023, the child was diagnosed with “multiple congenital disorders,’ at Children’s of Alabama where a follow-up appointment was scheduled for Oct. 20. However, Grimes did not take the child back and the hospital’s phone calls were not returned.
A month later, the child was taken to St. Vincent’s in Blount County because they had stopped breathing. Upon arrival, medical staff found them to be “severely emaciated, asystolic and cool to the touch.”
Since their September appointment at Children’s, the child had reportedly lost one-third of their body weight and no evidence of them ever receiving further medical care was found.
Deputies are planning to release more information during a press conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Nicholas Myklebust would be arrested and has been charged with murder
Nicholas Myklebust News
A 44-year-old associate professor at Denver’s Regis University was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after police found his wife with head injuries and their infant daughter not breathing at their Central Park home on Monday morning.
Nicholas Myklebust called 911 just before 7 a.m. Monday from his home in the 3200 block of North Syracuse Street and reported finding his wife on the ground with blood coming from her head and their daughter not breathing, according to the Denver Police Department and an arrest affidavit.
The woman, identified by police as 44-year-old Seorin Kim, was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The baby girl, whose age was not provided, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators noted Kim had blunt-force injuries to her face and head that were not consistent with a fall and police found bruising and blood on Myklebust’s knuckles and scratches on his chest and neck, according to the affidavit.
Their daughter did not have any visible injuries.
Denver’s Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death for both victims, police said.
Myklebust told police he woke up from sleeping on the couch and went into the bedroom to check on his wife and daughter when he found Kim face-down and injured and the baby not breathing, according to the affidavit. He told officers their relationship was “great,” though the baby had been more fussy than usual and the couple had been depressed since experiencing a personal loss in 2021.
Myklebust told police the bruising on his knuckles was skin discoloration and the scratches on his body were from itching his psoriasis, investigators wrote. He also said Kim must have fallen from a step ladder in the bedroom.
Myklebust, an associate professor of English at Regis, does not have previous criminal charges in Colorado other than a speeding conviction, according to court records.
Regis officials released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying they were saddened to learn of Myklebust’s arrest and that the news was “profoundly distressing for our entire community.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this situation, especially the victims’ family, and all members of our community who are grappling with this difficult news,” university officials said. “In moments of such sorrow and confusion, we are reminded of our Jesuit values to offer compassion, and to seek justice with love.”
Nicholas Myklebust is in custody at the Downtown Detention Center on suspicion of one count of first-degree murder and was set to appear in court Tuesday.
Darren Martell is an alleged killer from Vermont who has been charged with the murder of eighty two year old Roberta Martin
According to police reports Darren Martell would break into the home of Roberta Martin by removing the air conditioner unit and climbing in. Roberta would be reported missing four days later
The elderly woman would be found within a short distance of her home. She had been sexually assaulted, murdered and burned
Darren Martell would be arrested and has been charged with aggravated murder
Darren Martell News
The man charged with aggravated murder in last week’s death of 82-year-old Roberta Martin allegedly sexually assaulted the Enosburgh woman before killing her and disposing of her burned remains about three-quarters of a mile from her home, according to court documents.
Darren Martell, 23, pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon in Franklin County Superior criminal court in St. Albans on the charge of aggravated murder in Martin’s death. Judge Robert Katims granted a prosecutor’s request to hold Martell without bail.
In a four-page affidavit filed in support of the aggravated murder charge, Vermont State Police Det. Sgt. Tyson Kinney spelled out details of the investigation. It began the morning of July 17 when neighbors, alerted by the victim’s daughter, went to the Butternut Hollow Road home to check on Martin. She last spoke with her daughter late in the evening on July 16.
The neighbors reported finding an open sliding door and an air conditioning unit ripped from the window, along with an unmade bed and a dresser drawer left open, but no sign of Martin.
“They advised this was very abnormal for Roberta because she was a very tidy and regimented individual who typically kept to the same schedule every day,” Kinney wrote.
Police also found duct tape on the floor of the bedroom and “dolly cart” tracks leading from the house to a neighboring property, Kinney wrote.
That same day, state police interviewed neighbors, including Martell, who was staying at a camper parked on a nearby property. Returning to the same property a day later, detectives found “several pieces of gray duct tape on the ground near one of the fire pits that was cleaned out by Darren the day before,” Kinney wrote.
During questioning, Martell initially told police he was living in a house in Grand Isle and had arrived in Enosburgh around 8 a.m. on July 17, but when questioned further, “Darren advised he had lied to detectives and admitted that he had been living in the camper” for the last two months, the affidavit read.
A resident of Sand Hill Road called police to report that she had seen “an unknown male” walking on the road at around 4 a.m. on July 17, wearing clothes that matched the description of those worn by Martell during a subsequent interview with police, Kinney wrote.
On July 21, two detectives went to a pull-off area on Sand Hill Road where an acquaintance of Martell told police he was growing marijuana. The site was about three-quarters of a mile from the missing woman’s home, according to the affidavit.
One detective followed a trail into the woods, where he discovered the partial remains, with additional remains found nearby, Kinney wrote, adding, “the human remains appeared to be burned.”
A post-mortem exam the following day confirmed the remains were those of Martin, according to the affidavit, and additional evidence was collected for testing. On July 25, the state forensic lab notified state police it had “preliminarily determined” that a DNA sample of sperm taken from the victim’s body matched DNA taken from Martell, the affidavit said.
In charging documents, Deputy State’s Attorney Diane Wheeler wrote that Martell “on or about July 17, 2024, was then and there a person who murdered another human being while perpetrating sexual assault, to wit: unlawfully killed ROBERTA MARTIN…”
Martell was arrested on the murder charge late Thursday night while he was in custody at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans, state police said. He had been held since his arrest Monday on a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct. He was arrested on that charge after police, looking for him for questioning in Martin’s death, found him on a wooded trail in St. Albans, allegedly committing a lewd act.
Wearing green prison clothing, Martell walked into the courtroom Friday for his arraignment on the murder charge with his ankles and wrists in chains and sat between his attorneys at the defense table. He did not speak during the hearing and mostly looked down during the proceeding.
Rosanna Chase, a public defender representing Martell, challenged whether there was probable cause to support the aggravated murder since there was no cause of death provided within the police affidavit.
“Additionally, while there is a probable cause for a sexual act based on the DNA, within the four corners of the affidavit there’s no evidence of non-consensual sex,” Chase told the judge.
Chase’s comments drew gasps and groans from Martin’s family and friends, who filled several rows of seats in the courtroom.
Franklin County State’s Attorney Bram Kranichfeld, the prosecutor, said he believed enough evidence was contained within the filing to support the aggravated murder charge and said he expected to “soon” file an additional affidavit providing information from the medical examiner’s office regarding Martin’s cause of death.
He agreed to remove from the charging documents, at least until the supplemental affidavit was filed, the reference that Martin had been killed by “smothering and blunt trauma.”
Katims, the judge, denied Chase’s challenge, finding there was still enough information within the police affidavit to support the aggravated murder charge.
Martin’s family members declined comment after the hearing.
Kranichfeld, speaking to reporters outside the courthouse following the hearing, wouldn’t comment on whether he expected additional charges to be filed in the case.
“This is a terrible tragedy for our community,” the prosecutor said, adding that his office was “committed to holding the perpetrator of this act accountable and bringing him to justice.”
Maj. Dan Trudeau, head of the state police’s criminal division, also declined following Friday’s hearing to comment on the possibility of additional charges being filed.
If convicted of aggravated murder, Darren Martell faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole
A twelve year old girl in Tennessee is accused of killing her eight year old cousin Demeria Hollingsworth
According to police reports the twelve year old girl, who has not been named publicly due to her age, and her eight year old cousin Demeria Hollingsworth were involved in an argument over an IPhone
The twelve year old girl would suffocate Demeria Hollingsworth with blankets until she died then rearranged the body. The entire murder was caught on video from the family’s closed circuit security system
The Twelve year old has been charged with first degree murder. Right now prosecutors are attempting to get the twelve year old tried in adult court where she could face a potential life sentence
Demeria Hollingsworth News
A 12-year-old girl in Humboldt, Tennessee, is being charged with first-degree murder after prosecutors say video shows her suffocating her 8-year-old cousin in a bunk bed they shared.
The girl, who will turn 13 next week, allegedly used bedding to suffocate her cousin, then cleaned up the victim and repositioned her body, say investigators who reviewed home security video of the incident.
The victim’s mother, Rayana Smith, identified her as Demeria Hollingsworth. She remembered Demeria was always smiling, doing well in school, and hugging her little sister.
“She liked to read books, go swimming, play outside, ride her bike every day, play with the kids in the neighborhood, play with my friends’ kids. My baby was sweet,” Smith said
Smith said the girls were staying with their grandmother in Humboldt for the summer. She says the issue stemmed over an argument over an iPhone.
“When they told me about that, I should have just gone to get my kid,” she said. “But they were having fun for the summer and I didn’t think she would kill my baby.”
It’s difficult for Smith to wrap her head around what happened to her daughter.
“She did nothing to deserve for her life to be taken,” Smith said. “She was only 8 years old. She just turned 8 in April.”
Frederick Agee, District Attorney General for the 28th District in West Tennessee, said his office is petitioning Juvenile Judge Mark Johnson to transfer the child to Circuit Court to be tried as an adult.
“I consider this to be one of the most disturbing violent acts committed by either an adult or juvenile that my office has prosecuted,” Agee said in a statement posted to the office’s social media page.
The 12-year-old is charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Smith is hoping for the maximum sentence.
“Last time I seen my baby, she was smiling, giving me kisses, telling me she will see me when it’s time for her to come back home. She never coming back home. She never coming back home,” Smith said.

Police arrested a suspect in a double shooting earlier this month that killed Oakland rap artist Tan DaGod and injured a second victim.
The shooting happened July 13 on the 4000 block of Telegraph Avenue in the city’s Temescal neighborhood. Police said officers arrived to find the 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Alliauna Green, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
DaGod had been performing at the opening of a beauty supply store when she was shot, an event she had promoted on her Instagram account.
Green was taken to a hospital where she died of her injuries, police said. A second gunshot victim arrived at an area hospital and was listed in stable condition. Police said the investigation determined that the victim was injured in the same shooting.
On Tuesday, police said 30-year-old Dominic Gates, also a rapper known as BNC4Nero, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Gates for his involvement in the crime, police said.
Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department’s Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or the tip line at (510) 238-7950.
An Oakland rapper was arrested in the fatal shooting of a fellow rapper, police said Tuesday.
Oakland police arrested Dominic Gates, a rapper known as BNC 4nero, on charges of murder in the shooting of Alliauna Green, an up-and-coming rapper known as Tan DaGod, earlier this month. He was also arrested on charges of pimping a minor, corporal injury to a relationship partner, assault with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon, arrest records show.
The shooting occurred on July 13 on the 4000 block of Telegraph Avenue, near the MacArthur BART Station. Green was found with gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Another shooting victim arrived at a hospital in stable condition, according to Oakland police.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau has not yet publicly identified the homicide victim but numerous musicians mourned the loss of Tan DaGod on social media shortly after the shooting. Her friends identified her as the victim and believed she was targeted, KTVU reported.
The slain rapper had promoted a meet-and-greet that afternoon at Glamour Beauty, which is on the same block as the shooting.
“The violence is beyond understanding,” rapper Mistah F.A.B. wrote in an Instagram post last week. He added he was booked to be there but “God had other plans.”
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Gates, according to Oakland police. A plea hearing is scheduled for Friday.
