Samuel Little Early Life

Samuel Little was born on June 7, 1940 in Reynolds Georgia. According to Little his mother was employed as a prostitute. Samuel and his family would move soon after his birth to Ohio where he would mostly be raised by his Grandmother.

When he was sixteen years old Samuel Little would be arrested and convicted for breaking into a home and would spend time in a juvenile detention facility in Omaha Nebraska.

Samuel Little would spend his twenties bouncing from job to job and in and out of prison.

Samuel Little would spend time in prisons across the United States for a series of crimes including assault, sexual assault and theft.

In 1961 Samuel Little would be convicted and sentenced to three years in prison for breaking into a furniture store. In the next fifteen years he would be arrested twenty six times in eleven different States

Samuel Little Murders

In 1982 Samuel Little was arrested for the sexual assault and murder of a woman in Pascagoula, Mississippi by the name of Melinda Rose LáPree who had gone missing in the preceding months. Little would be acquitted of all charges due to poor witness testimony.

After being released from jail Samuel Little would move to California where he would be arrested for the kidnapping, assault and attempted murder of a woman in 1984. A month later he would be found in the back of a car with an unconscious woman who had been beaten and strangled. Little would be convicted and would spend the next two and a half years in prison.

After leaving prison Samuel Little would move to Los Angeles California where he committed ten more murders according to police.

Samuel Little Arrests And Confession

Samuel Little was arrested in Kentucky in 2021 and extradited back to California for a narcotics charge. Once in custody a DNA sample was taken and Little was tied to three murders: Carol Ilene Elford, killed on July 13, 1987; Guadalupe Duarte Apodaca, killed on September 3, 1987; and Audrey Nelson Everett, killed on August 14, 1989. Police agencies around the country and the FBI would begin to investigate Samuel Little and soon he would be tied to over thirty additional murders.

Samuel Little would be tried for the three murders and would be convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. After spending four years in prison Samuel Little began to talk to authorities and would confess to over ninety murders.

The FBI has since confirmed that he is responsible for at least sixty murders and the numbers could be much higher. The FBI declared Samuel Little as the most prolific serial killer in United States history.

ive years after analysts with the FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) began linking cases to convicted murderer Samuel Little—and nearly 18 months after a Texas Ranger began to elicit from him a breathtaking number of confessions—the FBI has confirmed Little to be the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history.

Little has confessed to 93 murders, and FBI crime analysts believe all of his confessions are credible. Law enforcement has been able to verify 50 confessions, with many more pending final confirmation.

Little says he strangled his 93 victims between 1970 and 2005. Many of his victims’ deaths, however, were originally ruled overdoses or attributed to accidental or undetermined causes. Some bodies were never found.

“For many years, Samuel Little believed he would not be caught because he thought no one was accounting for his victims,” said ViCAP Crime Analyst Christie Palazzolo. “Even though he is already in prison, the FBI believes it is important to seek justice for each victim—to close every case possible.”

The FBI is asking for the public’s help in matching the remaining unconfirmed confessions. ViCAP, with the support of the Texas Rangers, has provided additional information and details about five cases in hopes that someone may remember a detail that could further the investigation.

America’s deadliest serial killer, Samuel Little, who confessed to strangling 93 people, has died in California aged 80 with the identity of almost half of his victims still unknown.

Little said he targeted disadvantaged and mostly black women, including sex workers, in the belief that this would draw less attention from a disjointed law enforcement system that had little apparent interest in such victims – a calculation that proved grimly correct. His death means families of many of the victims may never have closure.

He was serving three consecutive sentences of life without parole for the killing of three women in Los Angeles County during the late 1980s, crimes to which he was linked through DNA matches. He was convicted of first-degree murder by a Los Angeles County jury on 25 September 2014 and began serving his prison sentence about two months later.

According to the FBI, Little began confessing to additional murders to a Texas Ranger who interviewed him in his California prison cell in 2018, and ultimately admitted to killing 93 people across the country by strangulation between 1970 and 2005.

The FBI said investigators had since verified 50 of those confessions, with many more pending final confirmation, making Little the deadliest US serial killer on record.

Authorities have said he appears to have targeted mostly vulnerable young black women, many of them sex workers or addicted to drugs, whose deaths were not well publicised at the time and in some cases were not recorded as homicides.

Describing how he killed with impunity for years, Little boasted to investigators of avoiding “people who would be immediately missed”, in an interview acquired by the Washington Post, which examined the repeated failures to catch Little. “I’d go back to the same city sometimes and pluck me another grape,” he said. “How many grapes do you all got on the vine here? I’m not going to go over there into the white neighbourhood and pick out a little teenage girl.”

Many of his killings were initially recorded as overdoses or attributed to accidental or undetermined causes, and some bodies were never recovered, according to an FBI profile of the killer.

Before his convictions in 2014, Little was linked to at least eight sexual assaults, attempted murders or killings, but he repeatedly escaped serious punishment.

Little served two prior sentences in a California state prison, including a four-year term ending in 1987 for assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment, and a stint of about 14 months ending in April 2014.

FBI video recordings of his jailhouse confessions showed Little sitting in front of a cinder-block wall in blue prison scrubs and a grey knit cap, sometimes appearing bemused or smiling as he recounted the circumstances of the killings.

He was incarcerated at a state prison in Lancaster, California, north of Los Angeles, and died early on Wednesday morning at an outside hospital, the state department of corrections said. It said an official cause of death would be determined by the county medical examiner’s office.

He would leave her body in a shed for two weeks as he and his family went on a two week vacation. When he returned he applied makeup to the victim, sewed her eyes open and took a photo of the woman with a recent newspaper demanding $30,000 for her return.

After Israel Keyes was arrested for the murder of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig in Alaska in 2012, authorities realized that the man they had in custody was a prolific serial killer. Keyes freely admitted as much.

During conversations with investigators, the 34-year-old sometime construction worker revealed the names of two additional victims—along with tantalizing clues about other murders he had committed around the country over a period of years. But last December, Keyes killed himself in his Anchorage jail cell, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and unidentified victims.

Those victims have not been forgotten, however. Today we are releasing new information in the hopes that the public can help us identify others who died by Keyes’ hands. The information includes extensive videotaped conversations with Keyes in jail and an interactive map that contains a detailed timeline of his known movements beginning in 1997.

“He gave us a number of clues,” said Special Agent Jolene Goeden in our Anchorage Division. “He talked openly about some of the homicides, but much of what he said only hinted at the things he had done. So we are trying to get information out there about what he did tell us. We are letting the public know the types of cars he rented, towns he visited, campgrounds he frequented. Anything that might spur someone’s memory could help us,” Goeden said.

Apart from Koenig, who was abducted from the Anchorage coffee stand where she worked, and Bill and Lorraine Currier, a middle-aged married couple who were murdered in 2011 in Vermont, Keyes discussed “seven or eight other victims,” Goeden said. “We want to identify them.”

Investigators believe that Keyes killed and buried a victim in upstate New York in April 2009. “He also told us about a couple in Washington state, another victim in that area, and possibly others in surrounding states,” Goeden said.

FBI agents are working with law enforcement around the country to link Keyes to open cases. “If we have a missing person identified in a particular area, we work closely with that local police department to either connect the person to Keyes or not,” Goeden explained. “We have his DNA.”

It’s a painstaking process, made more complicated because Keyes was meticulous about covering his tracks. In the Currier case, for example, he flew from Alaska to Chicago, rented a car, and drove 1,000 miles to Vermont, where he searched for victims. He chose the Curriers at random.

Keyes also left “murder kits” in various locations around the country that contained, among other items, weapons and cash—the money came from bank robberies he committed to support his criminal activities. The caches provided further cover because Keyes didn’t have to risk boarding an airplane with a weapon or using credit cards that could later connect him to a crime in a particular area.

“Although he chose many of his victims randomly, a tremendous amount of planning went into these crimes,” Goeden said. “Keyes enjoyed what he did, and he had no remorse at all. He told us if he hadn’t been caught, he would have continued kidnapping and murdering people.”

Longtime locals might remember the case of a babysitter in Blountstown who confessed to killing children.

After serving 25 years, she’s now eligible for parole.

But the woman dubbed the “Killer Babysitter” is staying behind bars.

Christine Falling was just 19 years old when she pleaded guilty to killing three children. In exchange, the state didn’t pursue charges for two other kids who died in her care, and it didn’t seek the death penalty.

The charges may never have been filed if she hadn’t confessed.

“I choked her ’til she quit breathing and she’d turned purple,” Falling said.

As a child, Christine Falling reportedly strangled or dropped cats from high places to test their nine lives. Her stepfather Jesse Falling, who adopted her at age four, was bewildered.

“Because she was a lover of children. I still say that,” he said.

Falling also later confessed to killing a 70 year old man her first day on the job as his housekeeper.

By law, Falling remains eligible for parole, but prosecutors told the review panel that the so-called babysitter from Hell deserved no mercy.

“This woman killed five babies from age two months to four years old. She says she just did it the way she saw on TV. She says she doesn’t know why she did it. Sometimes they cried and they made her mad. One time she just felt the urge,” said Joy Powell, an assistant state attorney in Perry.

No one showed up on Falling’s behalf at her parole hearing Wednesday.

The panel showed no mercy. Christine Falling’s presumptive release date is 2254, likely long after she dies.

Falling gets another hearing in seven years, but the question asked across the county in the wake of the deaths, “Can you trust your babysitter?,” is as relevant today as it was 25 years ago.

After the fourth child died in the arms of the 19-year-old babysitter after an immunization injection, she vowed to stay away from children.

“Sometimes I wonder if I don’t have some kind of spell over me when I get around young ‘uns,” Christine Falling, the babysitter, told a reporter.

Today authorities in the Florida panhandle community of Blountstown charged the babysitter with first-degree murder in two deaths after a fifth child, Travis DeWayne Coleman, 2 months old, died in her custody earlier this month. According to state attorney Jim Appleman, Falling was charged with the murders of Cassidy Marie (Muffin) Johnson, 2 years old, and Coleman by strangulation or suffocation or both

At a news conference today, Appleman said Falling is being held without bond in the deaths of Johnson, in February, 1980, and Coleman, who died on July 3. The three other deaths in the communities of Lakeland and Perry are not in his jurisdiction, Appleman said.

“It’s just a weird probability,” said public defender Virgil Mayo, who was appointed Falling’s attorney this morning. “But the law of probability is weird.”

Authorities declined to release any evidence in the deaths. “Let’s just say we got enough evidence that we felt comfortable in making an arrest,” sheriff Buddy Smith said.

For the past 2 1/2 years, the mysterious deaths have raised speculation, including voodoo and hexes, in Blountstown, population 4,000. But today, Mary Goodman of Goodman’s Cafe said brusquely: “Nobody wants to discuss it.”

Unskilled and impoverished, Falling as a child was shuffled from home to home by relatives and social workers, sheriff Smith told a reporter last year. She left school after seventh grade to marry and have a baby but she lost the child and the marriage soon ended, Falling has said.

Doctors examined Falling last year in search of a mysterious lethal virus but found nothing wrong. Recently she had cared for relatives’ children without incident.

The first victim, 2-year-old Muffin Johnson, died after staying with Falling for four hours. A few days later, Falling was caring for Kyle Summerlin, 3, when he was rushed to the hospital and treated for meningitis. He survived.

In early 1981, Falling was watching two brothers who went into convulsions. They were hospitalized and recovered.

A few days later, Falling was babysitting for Jeffrey Michael Davis, 4, when she said she couldn’t awaken him from a nap. He died of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle. Three days after that, his cousin, Joseph (Joe-Boy) Spring, 2, died of the same illness while in Falling’s care.

A year ago, Jennifer Yvonne Daniels, 8 months old, died. She was Joe-Boy’s sister and both were the children of Falling’s stepsister. Falling and the baby’s mother had taken Jennifer to the health department for a vaccination. Falling held the baby when she started screaming from the shot and kept holding her when they went to the grocery. In the car, Jennifer grew quiet. “I was just hollering, ‘Oh, not again,’ ” Falling told a reporter.

Earlier this month, the Coleman baby, who had displayed pneumonia-like symptoms, died after he had been in Falling’s care the night before.

Appearing dazed and haunted in an interview in her trailer a week ago, Falling said she was convinced she was not to blame. “Just because I’m not having an easy life . . . maybe it will straighten up one day,” she said, adding, “I don’t see how that’s ever going to happen.”

Paul Durousseau, a cab driver who befriended the women whom he was accused of killing, was sentenced to death in 2007. He became known as ”the “Cabbie Killer.”

Under a new Supreme Court opinion Durousseau will have to be resentenced in the wake of a new Supreme Court order that found some death sentences in Florida unconstitutional.

Durousseau was convicted and sentenced to death for killing Tyresa Mack, 24, who was found dead in her apartment in 1999. He was also charged in the deaths of four other Jacksonville women, but was never tried.

The Florida Supreme Court recently ruled that non-unanimous death penalty sentences after 2002 will have to be resentenced by a 12-member jury.

The 12-person jury will have to unanimously decide that the defendant should get the death penalty. It’s unclear when Durousseau will be resentenced.

German authorities suspect Durousseau may have killed several local women when he was stationed there with the Army during the early 1990s. Georgia law enforcement suspected Durousseau killed a woman near Fort Benning in 1997 before he was dishonorably discharged.

Tuesday’s decision cited a January 2016 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in a case known as Hurst v. Florida, saying, “Durousseau’s death sentence was imposed under an unconstitutional capital sentencing statute.”

The trial jury split on the death sentence was 10-2. The state Supreme Court threw out the death sentence since the jury was not unanimous.

According to police Bobby Joe Long would drive around picking up prostitutes and women who were alone. Long would convince them to get into his vehicle where he would then drive to his apartment where the women were tortured, sexually assaulted and murdered. Some of the women were strangled to death and others were fatally stabbed.

It took more than three decades, but convicted serial killer and rapist Bobby Joe Long was executed Thursday evening in Florida as two of his surviving victims looked on.

“I wanted to look him in the eye,” said Lisa McVey Noland, who was 17 when Long kidnapped her early November 3, 1984, as she was riding her bicycle home from work. Long raped her and held her hostage for more 26 hours before letting her go, she said.

“I wanted to be the first person he saw,” Noland said. “Unfortunately, he didn’t open his eyes.”

Bobby Joe Long, 65, was executed at 6:55 p.m. without incident, a Florida Department of Corrections spokeswoman told reporters. He had been convicted in the killings of eight women that terrorized the Tampa Bay area in 1984, according to CNN affiliate WFLA, and received a death sentence for the murder of Michelle Simms

“Now, after 35 years, we can say we have some peace of mind, knowing that justice has been served,” said Lula Williams, whose daughter Chanel was among Long’s victims.

After the execution, families of the victims and survivors addressed the media outside the Florida State Prison in Raiford, thanking Gov. Ron DeSantis and the law enforcement officers and prosecutors who they said saw to it that justice was served.

The other survivor, Linda Nuttall, said there was “no describing how this moment would feel.”

She and her husband had placed a classified newspaper ad in 1984 to sell some furniture. Long responded, and when he came to their home, he raped Nuttall while her two young children were in the house, she said.

“It’s just surreal,” Nuttall said. “But it closes another door for me.”

“He got what he deserved,” said Nuttall’s husband, Kevin. “Today’s just another chapter.”

Noland, now a deputy for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, read a victim’s impact statement and asked everyone to remember those who died at Long’s hands. But Noland said she had “no ill will” toward Long and that she had forgiven him.

“God has shown me the only way to really be free when someone bestows injustice against you is complete forgiveness,” she said. “My life changed forever and for the better. I chose not to remain a victim. I chose to live.”
