Kason Thomass, the 5-month-old baby who was kidnapped with his twin while inside a car that was stolen Monday, was found safe and alive in Indianapolis Thursday, just hours after the suspect was taken into custody, according to a statement from the Columbus Division of Police.

“The 5-month-old boy is in good health and being transported to a hospital to be checked out,” police said in a tweet. “We are grateful to the public for their help throughout this investigation, and for the tireless work of our officers and our many partner agencies.”

On Monday night, twins Kason and Kyair were inside a black 2010 Honda Accord that was left running outside a pizzeria on High Street in Columbus while their mother, Wilhelmina Thomass, was picking up a restaurant order while working as a DoorDash driver, CNN previously reported.

When she came out, the car was gone. Kyair was later found abandoned near the Dayton International Airport around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, but Kason remained missing.

Suspect Nalah Jackson was arrested at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday by officers with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) after officials received several tips that she was in the area, said Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant during a news conference.

At the time of Jackson’s arrest, Kason was not found with her, Bryant said.

Later Thursday, Kason was found in the stolen Honda Accord and was wearing the same clothes he was described to be wearing on Monday, police said.

Nalah Jackson, 24, was charged with two felony counts of kidnapping.

Since Jackson crossed state lines, she will be facing federal charges, Bryant said.

“It will absolutely be a federal investigation,” she said.

A warrant for Jackson’s arrest was filed through the Franklin County Court, according to an online docket.

An Amber Alert went out for the twins at 1:37 a.m. Tuesday, officials said. Restaurant employees told police that a homeless woman exited the restaurant after the twins’ mother entered the restaurant. The individual was later caught on camera at a gas station where she asked an employee for money.

Officials do not believe there’s a connection between the twins’ family and the suspect

Columbus Police Deputy Chief Smith Weir said during the Thursday news conference that officers have received “over three dozen tips” since Wednesday from throughout the state.

Late Thursday morning, the department’s hotline received several calls from people in Indiana who believed they spotted Jackson in Indianapolis and officers “implored” the witnesses to call 911. IMPD informed Columbus police around 2 p.m. that they had stopped an individual who they believed to be Nalah Jackson and both departments worked together to identify her before taking her into custody, Weir said.

“If you have any information regarding this crime or the whereabouts of this baby, please contact us as soon as possible,” Weir said, adding that three detectives from the Columbus Division of Police are traveling to Indianapolis to coordinate with IMPD and the FBI to further the investigation.

The FBI had offered a $10,000 award for the safe return of Kason, according to Bryant

On Wednesday, family members and community leaders gathered to pray for the safe return of the child.

During the vigil, the twins’ grandmother, LaFonda Thomass, begged for the return of Kason.

“If you look at him and you see anything, see a precious child who’s longing for his mother,” she said. “We beg you, please, please, please do the right thing and just bring my baby home.”

First Assistant Chief of Police LaShanna Potts said during the vigil, “We are committed to finding baby Kason. We want Nalah to do the right thing. … We know she’s capable of doing it because she did release one baby.”

Barnett and other family members searched for Kason throughout the Dayton area on Tuesday, including at the gas station, she told CNN affiliate WSYX.

“I just miss my babies. I miss them being together and their smile,” she told WSYX.

She said she’s worried about her son’s safety and if he’s being fed.

“Kason, he loves eating and that’s why I’m so so worried. I know he’s flipping out. He eats so fast. He eats in 3-5 minutes,” Barnett said.

Jade Janks Guilty Of Stepfathers Murder Over Nude Photos

Jade Janks

Jade Janks has been found guilty of the murder of her stepfather which was apparently over nude photos she found on his computer. According to court documents Jade Janks was looking at her stepfather Thomas Merriman computer when she saw nude photos of herself as the main screensaver. Jade Janks would then plan his murder. Jade Janks would drug Thomas Merriman before she would strangle him and bury his body under a bunch of boxes in the driveway. Apparently there was hundreds of photos of Janks on Thomas Merriman computer which he allegedly took starting when she was just sixteen years old. Jade Janks will be sentenced early in 2023 where she faces twenty five years to life in prison.

Jade Janks More News

After a little over one day of deliberations, a jury in North County found Jade Janks, 39, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her stepdad after finding nude photos of her on the stepfather’s computer.

The verdict is the end of a week-plus murder trial of interior designer Jade Janks, 39, who prosecutors say drugged her stepfather, Tom Merriman, and strangled him on December 31, 2020.

Merriman was a prominent North County businessman who was the co-founder of Butterfly Farms in Encinitas

During the week-long trial, prosecutors argued that Janks planned the murder of her stepfather after she found hundreds of nude photos of her on his computer. The photos were, according to Janks’ attorney, organized by body part and were taken while Janks was in the shower and during other instances, dating back when Janks was as young as 16 years old.

Prosecutors said they found text messages that Janks sent to friends on the day that Merriman died. Among the texts read in court included one sent on the day of Merriman’s death, “I just dosed the hell our of him,” while another read “it’s pretty much done.”

However, Janks’ defense attorneys argued that Janks sent the text messages days after she discovered the cache of nude photos on his computer while she was cleaning his house.

“It was the most violating, awful, gut-wrenching feeling ever. I felt sick, I felt I couldn’t… even touch my own skin. I don’t know if there [are] words, not even in a movie have I seen something so sick,” testified Janks during the trial.

Janks’ attorneys also argued that Merriman was an alcoholic who would often mix liquor with sleeping pills.

Janks faces 25 years to life in state prison when she is sentenced, which is currently set for an April 3 hearing.

8 Teen Girls Charged In Swarming Murder In Toronto

Toronto

Eight teen girls have been charged in a swarming murder that took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. According to police reports the eight teen girls, three 13- year-olds, three 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds, were apparently after a liquor bottle and when the victim stood up for his friend he would be brutally attacked ending in his death. Toronto police have charged the eight teen girls with second degree murder. Due to Canadian law regarding juveniles the longest sentence they can receive is a life sentence where parole eligibility is after seven years. Again due to Canadian laws the identity of the eight teen girls will not be made public

Toronto murders have been in the global news over the last few days with the last being a disgruntled condo owner who would shoot and kill five people before being shot dead by police. Of course to put this in perspective Toronto is the fourth largest city in North America behind Mexico City, New York City and Los Angeles. Toronto has had a total of 68 murders this year.

Swarming Murder In Toronto More News

An alleged “swarming” attack in Toronto started when the eight teen girls charged in the slaying tried to take a liquor bottle from the victim and his friend, the friend says.

That witness, who CBC Toronto has agreed not to name because they belong to a vulnerable community, said she was smoking a cigarette with the man outside a downtown shelter early Sunday when the group of teens approached them and attempted to take her alcohol.

The 59-year-old victim, who police have not publicly identified, told the girls to leave the two of them alone, the woman said.

“He protected me,” she added.

That’s when the group of girls started to punch him repeatedly, she recalled. Frightened by the violence, she walked away while one of the girls followed her. She said she could see lots of blood.

“Bleeding, bleeding, bleeding. I didn’t know if they had a knife or what. I was just scared,” she said. “I think they stabbed his belly.”

She said she went into the shelter and brought him water afterwards. “I didn’t know he would die,” she said.

In an interview Wednesday, Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Terry Browne said investigators believe there was an attempted theft — “likely of a liquor bottle” — during the initial phase of the deadly encounter.

“I don’t want to expand on that because we don’t have all the moving parts right now. But we do believe that does form part of the narrative involved in this,” he said.

The attack happened around 12:15 a.m. ET near the corner of York Street and University Avenue, just steps from Union Station. The victim was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Browne, who has been a homicide detective for 19 years, called it a “shocking” killing and said it is unlike anything he’s investigated before.

“I can’t recall a situation where eight females have been involved in something like this.

At a news conference Tuesday, Browne said the victim was beaten and stabbed by the group, which included three 13- year-olds, three 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds. All eight have been charged with second-degree murder. Their identities are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Browne said police chose to charge all eight with second-degree murder because each girl “played a role” in the slaying.

“All eight were together. All eight were involved,” he said Wednesday. ” I won’t say what each one individually did, but all eight were together and participating in this event, which is disturbing.”

Police are operating under the assumption that the girls met on social media, Browne said, but it’s not yet clear how or why they ended up downtown late Saturday and into Sunday morning. They all live in different parts of the city, he said.

Three had had “prior contact” with police, he added. Investigators have no evidence that the victim was known to them, Browne said

Police have spoken to the parents of each of the teens, he told CBC Toronto.

“As you can probably imagine, everyone was shocked. Probably like getting hit by a Mack truck.”

The fatal swarming was preceded by an earlier incident involving the girls that Browne only described as “criminal activity.” Police arrested all eight when they responded to a third incident shortly after the swarming and “pieced together the dots” that the group had been involved in all three.

All of the teens appeared in court on the weekend, with further court appearances scheduled for Dec. 29.

Browne said police wouldn’t describe the girls as a gang at this point, but investigators are calling the incident a “swarming,” which he said normally involves selecting a target to victimize. Swarming was more prevalent in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Browne said, and “primarily involved young adolescent males finding themselves in conflict.”

As of Wednesday morning, police were still trying to contact the victim’s elderly parents, he said. Once that has been done, his identity will be released publicly.

Browne said the man had only recently entered into the city’s shelter system and that he had supportive extended family in the area.

“I wouldn’t necessarily call him homeless, just recently on some hard luck,” Browne said.

His death was the 68th homicide in Toronto in 2022.

Toronto Mayor John Tory said in a statement that he is “deeply disturbed” by the details of the case.

“Everyone in our city deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I am so saddened to know that a man has lost his life in this way,” he said.

“I am extremely troubled by the young age of those accused and by the number of people allegedly involved in this murder. My thoughts are with this man’s friends and all those who knew him as they mourn his loss,” he added.

Police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area of the attack between about 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

Kara Faulkner More News

The mother of a 5-year-old boy who died this week in Portsmouth faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, child neglect and child cruelty, after she admitted he’d been around fentanyl and crack cocaine the night before.

Police announced Kara Faulkner’s arrest on Wednesday morning. She’s also been charged with possession of a schedule 1 or schedule 2 controlled substance and concealing/moving a corpse. She’s currently in Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office custody.

Faulkner, 31, brought her son into Maryview Hospital on Monday morning and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Portsmouth police announced that day that they deemed his death suspicious and later charged Faulkner after they said they visited a crime scene in the 3800 block of Turnpike Road.

Faulkner later admitted to a detective to using fentanyl and crack cocaine the night before, and that her son was around the substances, according to court documents obtained by 10 On Your Side. She also said she left her son in the care of her drug dealer when she went to Wawa to buy vape cartridges, and met up with a different drug dealer that night to buy crack cocaine.

Faulkner told an ER nurse “I was chilling with some friends last night and when he went to sleep, he was fine,” court documents show. The child was cold to the touch the morning Faulkner brought him to the hospital, and nurses found he had been dead for several hours before he was brought in.

A search warrant shows no drugs were seized at the home, but detectives took swabs, paperwork, fingerprints and the child’s bookbag. Faulkner’s 2022 gray Honda Accord was also taken as evidence.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the PPD Investigations Bureau at 757–393–8536. Or call the Crime Line at 1–888-LOCK-U-UP.
