Police are searching for the mother of a 12-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy who were left alone for two months late last year in their house in Roman Forest, Texas. The mother, Raven Yates, is believed to be in the area of Mobile, Alabama, police in Texas said in a Facebook post.

An arrest warrant has been issued with two counts of abandonment without intent to return, Roman Forest police said.

On Nov. 14, 2022, the father of the 12-year-old girl called police when he became concerned the children were home alone, police said. The father, who lives in California, told police he had been ordering food to the Texas house for the children, when family members told him that Yates had been spotted alone in Mobile, Alabama.

The father became suspicious after the conversation that their mother had left them in Texas alone, and after calling Roman Forest police, flew to Texas from California, officials said. When police arrived at the house, they found the children alone inside without food or medical supplies.

“There was no food in the house. Everything was emptied,” Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle told WEAU-TV.  “There were some dried beans and some spices, that’s about it.”

The house was left in deplorable conditions, and the 3-year-old’s bedroom smelled heavily of urine, police said.

Investigators said the girl didn’t call police because she was scared that her father would take her and leave her baby brother. The two children have different fathers, police said.

Both children were not registered in school, and police said they had been alone from Sept. 28 until Nov. 14 – almost two months in the rented Texas home.

“A 12-year-old can not take care of a three-year-old for a long period of time,” Carlisle told WEAU 13. “That’s dangerous.”

The two children are said to be safe with family members in Mobile, Alabama, police said. Roman Forest police are working with Mobile police to find the missing mother, police said.

Officials in Tulsa say a horrific case of child abuse led to a homicide investigation.

On Jan. 27, officers with the Tulsa Police Department were called to a home after receiving a call from a woman who said a child had been missing for several years and was possibly dead.

The woman said that Camille Lewis left her 13-year-old daughter to live with her in September. When the child arrived at the woman’s home, she said she was extremely thin and malnourished

At the time, she said that Lewis claimed her 11-year-old son was dead.

Tulsa detectives interviewed the 13-year-old girl, who spoke about horrific abuse that lasted for more than a year.

The girl claimed that her mother and her stepfather, John Miles, would lock her and her brother in separate closets for days at a time, not feed them, and beat them.

Police claim that the girl said Miles would offer her food in exchange for sexual favors.

In March of 2021, she said she heard her mother crying and begging her brother to wake up. She said that Lewis told her that her brother had a seizure and died.

Initially, she said she thought her brother was buried in a park, but said she was told that Miles dug up the body and burned it in a barrel.

On Feb. 7, investigators arrested Lewis.

Detectives say she admitted to abusing the children and causing scars all over the girl’s body. However, she said that her son was not dead. Instead, she said he ran away two years ago and has not been seen since.

The next day, Miles was taken into custody

Miles and Lewis were arrested on complaints of child abuse by injury and child neglect.

“Detectives are actively investigating this case, and at this time this is considered to be a homicide investigation. The remains of the brother have not been found. Charges could be amended depending the outcome of the investigation,” the Tulsa Police Department posted.

Richard Acosta Guilty In Garland Texas Murders

Richard Acosta

Richard Acosta is the father of Abel Acosta who went into a Garland Texas convenience store and murdered three teens. Now Richard Acosta has been found guilty of three counts of capital murder and will spend the rest of his life in prison. According to court documents Richard Acosta drove Abel Acosta to the Garland Texas store knowing that his son was armed and what he planned to do. Abel Acosta would walk into the store and shoot and kill three teenagers, Xavier Gonzalez, 17-year-old Rafael Garcia, and 16-year-old Ivan Noyala, before leaving the store and getting back in the vehicle. It is believed that Richard Acosta would help Abel Acosta escape and to this day Abel remains on the run.

Richard Acosta More News

A Dallas County jury found Richard Acosta guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of three teenagers at a convenience store in Garland, even though he didn’t fire a shot.

Acosta’s son, Abel Acosta, has been identified as the shooter.

Richard Acosta drove his son to and from the convenience store on the day of the shooting, Dec. 26, 2021.

14-year-old Xavier Gonzalez, 17-year-old Rafael Garcia, and 16-year-old Ivan Noyala were killed.

Abel Acosta is still on the run.

Richard Acosta was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The jury spent just over 3 hours deliberating.

As the guilty verdict was announced, Acosta did not appear to show any emotion.

Some of his family members began to cry and hurried out of the courtroom to try and compose themselves.

In a courtroom where the focus was on getting justice for victims and the community, family members said they only got some justice, as a father is headed to prison, but his son – the accused gunman – is still nowhere to be found.

Following the jury announcing its decision, family members of the victims got the chance to speak to Acosta directly

“I watched my brother get shot ten times. I watched Abel look at him cowering over him, covered with a chair and shot him ten times. Someone he had no relation to and I watched his father plead ignorance to his actions,” said Ruby Herrera, Xavier Gonzalez’s sister. “We didn’t realize how much of an impact [Xavier] had until we lost him.”

“Not in a million years did he deserve what your son did, along with your actions that you took to aid him. I don’t think anyone deserves to have life taken away in a matter of seconds the way my brother’s was,” said Maria Padilla, Rafael Garcia’s sister.

Ivan Noyola’s uncle also addressed Acosta. Speaking in Spanish, he told Acosta that his actions that night left a hole in the family’s heart.

Half justice is how family members and law enforcement described the feeling as Acosta heads to life imprisonment with his son still on the lam.

“I will agree with the family that we have gotten to half justice. To get to full justice, we need Abel Acosta in custody, and we need help getting him in custody. Our mission is not done until that happens,” Garland Police Chief Jeff Bryan.

Garland police noted that there is $10,000 in reward money in this case to find Abel.

Ultimately, the jury believed the prosecution’s version of events, that Richard Acosta helped his son Abel “case” the Garland Texaco where Abel fatally shot the three teens.

Acosta served as the getaway driver and then helped his son escape, possibly out of the country.

Despite taking the stand in his own defense, jurors did not believe his claims that Acosta was oblivious to his son’s actions.

“I think that video speaks for itself. They didn’t need to tell them what we all saw in that video, and I think when you have so many detailed answers or explanations for something it just begins to feel like a lie,” said lead prosecutor Stephanie Fargo

“Unfortunately, the video you can infer, you can speculate that he was watching. He said he wasn’t, they obviously did not believe him. That’s why we try cases,” said defense attorney Heath Harris. “I hope and pray that they do catch Abel Acosta. Maybe he will really tell them what happened that day.”

Harris said they’re hopeful Abel turns himself in, believing his story could change the fate of his father.

“It can make a difference if Abel Acosta admits that Richard Acosta did not know what he was going to do, that when he went to the car Richard Acosta was cowering down in his seat,” Harris said.

Acosta still claims he has no idea where his son is.

“This is half-done. I’m relieved of the guilty verdict, and we received this amount of justice. I think he deserves exactly what he got by the law which is he’ll never come out of prison,” said Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot.

Officials said they don’t expect any additional cooperation from Acosta.

“He could have done that before now, if he wanted to. He chose not to. He rolled the dice,” Creuzot added.

During closing arguments the prosecution argued that there is no way that Acosta could not have known what his son was doing.

On the stand Thursday, Acosta faced questions from the defense team and prosecutors.

He testified that he drove his son to the convenience store, but was listening to the radio and never saw his son enter the store or shoot anyone.

He said he ducked down as the gunfire erupted. Next thing he knew, Abel jumped into the backseat, sitting directly behind him, and told him to drive.

“He says, ‘Go, get out. Somebody is shooting. Get me out of here,’” Richard recalled.

Richard said he does not know where his son is.

“We don’t know if he’s alive. Nobody knows if he’s even breathing or anything. Nobody knows,” Acosta said.

He went on to express sympathy to the families of the victims.

“It is the most horrible thing. I can’t imagine how those families feel. We all lost a son that day. I will never get to see my son again,” he said through tears. “He’s going to spend the rest of his life in prison.”

Richard went on to say that if his son is caught, he should go to prison for killing the three teens, while also maintaining he had nothing to do with it

Garland’s police chief says the case is still open and the search for Abel continues.

The defense team plans to file an appeal.

Landon Parrott Gets Life For Murder Of Son

Landon Parrott

Landon Parrott is a twenty year old man from New Philadelphia Ohio who was just sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his fourteen month old son. According to court documents Landon Parrott would intentionally place his fourteen month old son in a car during a very hot day and proceeded to leave him there for the next five hours. Police in New Philadelphia estimate the temperature in the vehicle was above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. 14 month old Kyler Parrott would die from his injuries.

Landon Parrott initially told police that he left his son in the car in order to use the restroom however his story would fall apart when videos from a house across the street showed Landon Parrott placing the toddler in the car and leaving him. Landon Parrott would eventually plead guilty and was sentenced to life in prison with no shot at parole for 15 years.

Landon Parrott More News

Vanessa Fraser-Parrott fought back tears as she told her husband what it meant to her that he killed their 14-month-old son, Kyler, by leaving him in a hot car Sept. 1.

“These last five months have been absolute hell,” she told Landon S. Parrott at his sentencing hearing Thursday. “You killed my reason to live. You took my whole world away from me and lied about it to everyone. You left my baby alone and scared for six hours.

“No ruling can ever make amends for your actions and nothing can bring him back. But I will be at every parole hearing to make sure you don’t ever get released. This is my final goodbye to you. Rot in hell.”

Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Michael J. Ernest sentenced Parrott on Thursday to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years, a sentence dictated by state law

The judge told the defendant that if he were to be released, the only thing he could do to make amends “would be to live the best life you possibly can for Kyler, to show him the man that you should have been on that day, but weren’t.”

Given the chance to speak at sentencing, Parrott said, “I’m sorry for the pain that I caused Vanessa and the pain that I caused her family and the pain I caused my family. I was supposed to be a provider for my son and a provider for Vanessa and I was terrible at that

He expressed the hope that his brother and sister can learn to love him and be present for him “even though I haven’t been the best big brother.”

Vanessa said she was not certain Landon could understand the hole he left in her heart when she comes home and Kyler isn’t there.

She recalled that she learned she was pregnant as a 19-year-old recent high school graduate still living with her mother. She said her love for Kyler grew as he grew and developed.

“His first laugh, his first words, his first sentence, I was there for all of them,” Vanessa said.

She ended her statement in court by addressing her son

“Mommy loves you so much. Rest in perfect peace, Kyler. Mommy will see you again someday.”

Assistant County Prosecutor Scott Deedrick extended his condolences to those who knew Kyler.

“I am unable to really come to grips with how Kyler, who should have really been protected, nurtured and loved, should have instead suffered and been killed so horribly by the recklessness of the defendant,” he said.

Deedrick commended the New Philadelphia Police Department, the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital emergency department staff and the staff of the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office for their “quick and decisive action” which uncovered the circumstances.

Kyler died after being left alone in a car near the family’s apartment in the 500 block of Ashwood Lane NW. Police Chief Michael Goodwin previously said that the toddler was left in the vehicle deliberately so he would “not be a disturbance while in the house.”
