A Massachusetts man who was wanted in connection with the murders of a married Marshfield couple is in custody in Florida.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz announced Saturday morning that 27-year-old Christopher Keeley, of Weymouth, was arrested in Miami Beach at about 8:20 p.m. Friday.

The victims, Carl and Vicki Mattson, were found dead in their Gotham Hill Drive home at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday by Marshfield police officers who were performing a well-being check on the couple.

Cruz said the Mattsons, both 70 years old, were bludgeoned and stabbed to death. Vicki Mattson was killed the night before her 71st birthday, according to the district attorney.

“This does not appear to be a random act of violence. This appears to be a targeted attack,” Cruz said Wednesday.

With the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit and Cruz’s office, Marshfield police developed probably cause and identified Keeley as a person of interest in the double homicide.

On Wednesday, state police issued a “be on the lookout” alert for Keeley and a 2019 black Jeep Wrangler. Investigators later recovered the Jeep at a parking lot in Avon that day. The vehicle was unoccupied.

An arrest warrant for Keeley was issued out of Plymouth District Court on Wednesday

Cruz also announced Saturday that a dog reported missing from the Mattsons’ house at 75 Gotham Hill Drive was found dead inside the home. A veterinary follow-up is being conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

Keeley faces a hearing in Florida to determine whether he will waive rendition before his return to Massachusetts to face charges.
