A college student at the University of Kentucky is facing charges after police say she hid her infant’s body in a trash bag inside a closet.
Laken Snelling, 21, was arrested Sunday and charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.
The Lexington Police Department says officers received a call for an unresponsive infant on Wednesday, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an arrest citation, the baby’s body was found in a trash bag inside the closet.
Snelling was identified as the infant’s mother.
Snelling is a student at the University of Kentucky and a member of the Kentucky Stunt team, according to the team’s website.
UK spokesperson Jay Blanton told WKYT that Snelling is a senior and is currently enrolled in classes at the university.
The team’s roster says Snelling is from White Pine, Tennessee
Police say the Fayette County Coroner’s Office is still determining the infant’s cause of death.
