An arrest has been made in a 2021 double murder where two young women were shot and killed at an apartment complex near 38th and Post.
The arrest comes more than four years after the murders of Ashanti Robinson and Patrice Jones. Detectives say new evidence led them to charge a 25-year-old woman in what they call an “ambush killing.”
“A loved one was lost,” said Drew Brown, a public information officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. “Two loved ones were lost. Two families are still grieving, and are going to have lasting impacts from that loss.”
On March 1, 2021, police rushed to Cordell Street after reports of gunfire. They found Robinson and Jones outside an apartment building, both dead with gunshot wounds. For years, the case sat unsolved, until IMPD’s Unsolved Homicide Unit took another look. Detectives say surveillance video was key to connecting 25-year-old Tadijah Davis to the murders
According to court documents, Davis claims two gunmen held her at gunpoint, and forced her to call Robinson and tell her to come home. After shooting Robinson and Jones, she claims the gunmen wanted her to drive away from the scene. Police say her story did not add up.
“This speaks to our ongoing relentless pursuit of justice,” Davis said. “It doesn’t matter how many years have passed, whether it’s weeks, days, months, or years, we will still work hard and try to identify those responsible.”
Police arrested Davis on Tuesday. She is facing two counts of murder. IMPD said they want families still waiting for answers to know detectives are still working.
“Know that we are still working to help bring closure to your family,” Brown said. “Know that our detectives are working hard and are going to be examining evidence as it becomes available, and are going to try to uncover their leads. Community cooperation is also very crucial for this.”
Davis has an initial hearing scheduled for Sept. 4.
