Matthew Farwell is an accused killer from Massachusetts who has been charged with the murder of Sandra Birchmore

Reports are indicating that he groomed the teen and would have sex with her at multiple locations including while he was on duty

In 2021 Sandra Birchmore was found dead at her Canton home and the cause of death was listed as a suicide. However there was much speculation surrounding her death. Matthew Farwell has been charged with murder and destroying evidence

Matthew Farwell News

A former Massachusetts police officer is in custody and facing charges that he murdered his pregnant mistress to hide their affair — which started when she was underage.

Matthew Farwell, 38, was indicted on charges he killed Sandra Birchmore by strangling her inside her Canton home in 2021, to ensure that their affair stayed secret. Farwell, who resigned from the Stoughton Police Department in 2022, had been an officer with the department as well as an instructor at the Stoughton Police Explorers Academy, where he met the victim.

According to a federal indictment, investigators say that Farwell immediately began grooming Birchmore for a sexual relationship that began when he was 26 and she was 15 years old. At times, according to prosecutors, Farwell would meet Birchmore for sex acts while he was on the clock and supposed to be working as a police officer

Messages between Farwell and the victim refer to sexual violence, but Birchmore was allegedly eager to have a child. Farwell is accused of agreeing to father a child on the condition that Birchmore keep their relationship a secret. But once she was pregnant, Birchmore allegedly told her friends that Farwell became physically violent and described being pushed, shoved and placed in a chokehold.

Investigators say Farwell plotted his mistress’ death, even getting her to give him a key to her home. During a looming blizzard on Feb. 1, while his wife was in labor with their third child, prosecutors say that Farwell wore a mask, used his key to get into her home and strangled her to death with a duffle bag strap. Farwell is accused of then staging the scene to look like a suicide.

The prosecution has asked a judge to hold Farwell behind bars until trial: “There are no conditions of release that will protect the community from a defendant whose conduct reveals such an indifference to human life.”

The indictment also accuses Farwell of attempting to destroy evidence in the case, even instructing Birchmore to delete evidence of their sexual relationship from her phone before her death.

Birchmore’s family has separately filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Farwell and the Stoughton Police Department.

In a statement after the charges were announced, Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara said in a statement, “The day after Sandra Birchmore was found dead in her Canton apartment, I ordered a lengthy and aggressive internal affairs investigation, the instructions of which made it clear that no stone should be left unturned. The Stoughton Police Department has supported other agencies and worked with other agencies, including the FBI investigation that today resulted in a murder indictment that concluded that Sandra was killed. The alleged murder of Sandra is a horrific injustice. The allegations against the suspect, a former Stoughton Police Officer, represent the single worst act of not just professional misconduct but indeed human indecency that I have observed in a nearly three-decade career in law enforcement. It has been my life’s work over these past three years to ensure that justice was served. As I have stated previously, Sandra Birchmore received no justice during her life. It is imperative that justice be served in her death, and today’s actions appear to bring our society one step closer to justice.”

If convicted, Farwell faces a potential sentence of life in prison.

Deputy Sean Grayson Murders Sonya Massey

Sean Grayson
Sean Grayson

Former Deputy Sean Grayson is an alleged killer from Illinois who has been charged with the murder of Sonya Massey

According to police reports Sean Grayson was employed as a Deputy at the Sangamon County Police Department when he was called to the home of Sonya Massey in Springfield Illinois.

Sonya Massey had called 911 to report that she believed there was a prowler outside of her home. Once inside of the home Deputy Sean Grayson would allow Massey to remove a pot of boiling water from the stove. The Deputy then became aggressive and pulled out his service weapon. Massey would put her hands up in the air and say she was sorry before Sean Grayson would fatally shoot her. Grayson then refused another Deputy to render aid to Ms Massey

After an investigation Sean Grayson would be arrested and charged with first degree murder. Grayson has also been fired from the Sangamon County police department

Sean Grayson News

n Illinois sheriff’s deputy charged with murder in the death of a Black woman shot her in the face during a tense moment over a pot of water in her home and then discouraged his partner from trying to save her, authorities said Thursday.

The details were in a court document filed in support of keeping fired Sangamon County Deputy Sean Grayson in custody without bond. County Circuit Judge Ryan M. Cadagin agreed, denying Grayson pretrial release at a hearing Thursday in Springfield.

In a courtroom guarded by a dozen sheriff’s deputies with three more patrolling the hall, Cadagin described the actions the former deputy is accused of as “such a departure from the expectations of a civil society.”

Sonya Massey, 36, was killed at her home in Illinois’ capital city, about 200 miles (322 kilometers) south of Chicago, after deputies responded to her 911 call about a possible prowler early on July 6.

Prosecutors alleged that after Grayson allowed Massey to move a pot of water heating on the stove and she set it on a counter, Grayson then “aggressively yelled” at Massey over the pot and pulled his 9 mm pistol. Massey then put her hands in the air, declared “I’m sorry” and ducked for cover before being shot in the face. Grayson also discouraged the other deputy from getting his medical kit, prosecutors said.

“The other deputy still rendered aid and stayed with Ms. Massey until medical help arrived,” First Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Rodgers wrote. Grayson “at no time attempted to render aid to Ms. Massey.”

The 30-year-old Grayson, who is white, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct. He pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance Thursday.

More than 30 of Massey’s family members and their supporters filled the seats of the courtroom Thursday, several of whom declined to comment afterward.

No one argued with the state’s contention that body camera footage of the incident upheld the first requirement in ordering Grayson detained — that there is a strong presumption that the actions alleged in the indictment occurred. Authorities said they plan to release the body camera footage publicly Monday.

“At no point did this defendant show anything but callousness to human life,” Rodgers said.

Defense attorney Dan Fultz argued for Grayson’s release, contending the state’s arguments fell short on other arguments. Fultz said Grayson is not a threat to the community because was compliant and turned himself in within a half-hour after his arrest warrant was issued.

He said the Army veteran owns a home in Riverton, a community just east of Springfield, with his fiancee, whom he plans to marry this fall. His detention would pose a burden on the county, he said, because of Stage 3 colon cancer diagnosed last fall that requires special medical treatment.

Fultz asked for Grayson’s release on condition that weapons be removed from his home, that he undergo a mental health evaluation and the be put on around-the-clock electronic monitoring.

Cadagin decreed that Massey, weighing about 110 pounds (50 kilograms), posed no threat to the 6-foot-3 (190-centimeter), 228-pound (103-kilogram) Grayson, who was armed and accompanied by another deputy, and after shooting her refused to render aid.

Sheriff Jack Campbell said Wednesday that Grayson was fired because it is evident that the deputy “did not act as trained or in accordance with our standards. … With our badge we accept enormous responsibility, and if that responsibility is abused, there should be consequences.”

Ben Crump, an attorney for Massey’s family, said the charges were a “step toward justice for Sonya’s loved ones, especially her children, who have endured unimaginable pain and suffering since they were notified of this tragedy.”

As many as 200 people gathered Wednesday at the Springfield NAACP building to express support for Massey and her family.

“I am enraged that another innocent Black woman had her life taken from her at the hands of a police officer,” Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker said after the indictment.

Grayson is due back in court Aug. 26. He has been with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department about 18 months, Fultz said, after serving as an officer with several other police agencies in central Illinois for about seven years before that.

The Las Cruces police officer who shot and killed a 45-year-old woman during an officer-involved shooting last October has been charged with 2nd-degree murder and was arrested Tuesday.

The officer identified as Felipe Hernandez is being charged with second-degree murder.

Hernandez remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Hernandez turned himself in Tuesday morning.

“The DA office came to that determination after reviewing all the evidence submitted by the officer-involved shooting task force,” said Doña Ana County District Attorney Gerald Byers.

“From the very beginning of Mr. Hernandez’s interaction with Ms. Gomez, the ability to manage protocol is non-existent. His interactions with her, just on a human level, was exceptionally subpar and did not meet the standards that LCPD demands of its officers,” said Byers.

Byers said his office looked to see if there was justification for Hernandez to use his firearm.

“There was no necessity for him to use deadly force,” said Byers. “We looked at self-defense. There was no self-defense.”

At about 4:45 a.m. on Oct. 3, a Las Cruces police officer made contact with 45-year-old Teresa Gomez, along with a passenger in her vehicle, near the 1300 block of Burley Court.

In the body cam video, Hernandez an 8-year veteran officer shot at least three times at Gomez while she was trying to run away.

Before the shooting happened, the officer asked Gomez to step out of the car so he could ask her questions which at first she denied before complying.

Gomez told the officer she was at a public housing after hours visiting a friend named Butterfly. The officer then went on to explain that she was trespassing.

The officer also noted the passenger in the car was also a frequent trespasser in the area.

As the video goes on, Gomez asks if she can sit back down in the car.

The officer who was writing down the information said yes but instead Gomez started the car and tried to drive away.

The officer shot three rounds.

Gomez was taken to an area hospital where she died.

Jesus Garcia, 38, the passenger in Gomez’s vehicle, was not injured. He was subsequently arrested on misdemeanor and felony warrants.

Devin Williams Jr More News

A Northern California sheriff’s deputy was charged Friday in the killings of a husband and wife who were shot inside their home, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors charged Devin Williams Jr., a deputy with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, with two counts of murder and with the special circumstance of avoiding lawful arrest after he fled the Dublin home of Benison and Maria Tran, Alameda County Dist. Atty. Nancy O’Malley said in a statement.

Williams, 24, surrendered to law enforcement hours after he was accused of the slayings. Williams appeared in court Friday but didn’t enter a plea. His attorney, Jesse Garcia, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Benison Tran, 57, was a civil engineer. He retired last year after working nearly 29 years for the city of Santa Clara, said Michelle Templeton, a city spokeswoman.

Maria Tran, 42, was a nurse whom Williams met at John George Psychiatric Hospital in San Leandro, where she worked

The couple was fatally shot inside their Dublin home Wednesday. Four other relatives who were in the home, including their child, were unharmed, said Lt. Ray Kelly, a spokesperson with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

A relative of the Trans who saw the slayings called police and identified Williams as the gunman, Kelly said.

Kelly said investigators are still trying to determine the motive.

Williams’ mother, Anitra Williams, told KTVU-TV that her son had been in a romantic relationship with Maria Tran since January and that he believed she was 35 and unmarried.

Anitra Williams said she had warned her son against being with Tran but that her son was “blinded by love.”

“She told him she loved him. They were on a 10-day trip,” Anitra Williams said.

Williams made it 160 miles south to the city of Coalinga, where he called police in Dublin to say he wanted to surrender, Kelly said.

Williams had been with the sheriff’s office since September and was still on probation. He had been assigned to the Oakland courthouse, and there were no concerns about his job performance, Kelly said.
