Donald Dillbeck Execution Scheduled For Tonight

Donald Dillbeck

Donald Dillbeck is scheduled to be executed tonight, February 23, 2023, by the State of Florida. According to court documents Donald Dillbeck was serving a life sentence for the murder of a police officer when he escaped and would stab to death a woman during a carjacking. For his second murder Donald Dillbeck would be sentenced to death.

Donald Dillbeck lawyers have been trying to get his death sentence commuted to life in prison due to mental issues stating that he suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome. Donald Dilbeck has been on Florida death row since 1990

Donald Dillbeck Execution More News

In a first since 2019, a convicted killer is set to be executed in the Florida State Prison. Donald Dillbeck, who murdered a law enforcement officer and a woman during a carjacking, is scheduled to be put to death after Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed his death warrant.

The death chamber in Florida has been silent for three and a half years, which is the longest time between executions in 40 years. Gary Ray Bowles, who killed half a dozen men in 1994, was the last person to be executed in the state in August 2019.

Dillbeck’s execution has been a subject of debate among anti-death penalty advocates. Maria DiLiberato, the head of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, argued that Dillbeck should have been granted an exemption from execution due to a “mental condition” caused by his alcoholic mother, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.

“Killing him will not bring back the people that he killed. If that were true, we’d have a much different argument about the death penalty,” DiLiberato said.

Deputy Lynn Hall was fatally shot by Dillbeck in 1979 at the Lee County park that now bears his name. Dillbeck was sentenced to life but escaped in 1990 in a minimum-security work detail. Days later, he fatally stabbed Faye Vann in a Tallahassee mall parking lot and was sentenced to death.

Michael Sheedy, the executive director for the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops, expressed his deep sadness for the victims and their families. He joins other anti-death penalty groups in urging the governor to spare Dillbeck’s life.

“If we’re going to say killing is ‘wrong,’ but we kill in return, we’re not making sense,” Sheedy said.

Barring a stay, Dillbeck will die by lethal injection and become the 100th person executed since the death penalty was reinstated in Florida in the 1970s.

Donald Dillbeck Execution February 23 2023

For the first time in nearly four years, Florida executed a man Thursday for a carjacking that led to the brutal murder of a woman more than three decades ago.

Donald Dillbeck, 59, was pronounced dead at Florida State Prison at 6:13 p.m. ET, the governor’s office said. Dillbeck, who died by lethal injection, was condemned in the fatal stabbing of Faye Lamb Vann, 44, in a Tallahassee mall parking lot.

The U.S. Supreme Court had declined a request by Dillbeck’s attorneys to stop his execution.

The death marked Florida’s 100th execution since the death penalty was reinstated by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1976 and executions resumed in the state in 1979.

At the time of the murder, Dillbeck was a fugitive after escaping a work-release catering job in Gadsden County, where he was serving a life sentence for killing Lee County Deputy Dwight Lynn Hall, 31, in 1979. Dillbeck was 15 at the time

Prior to that, he stabbed a man in Indiana while trying to steal a CB radio, court records show. Dillbeck fled to Florida, where the deputy found him in a Fort Myers Beach parking lot. While Hall was searching him, Dillbeck hit the deputy in the groin and ran. Hall tackled him and Dillbeck took Hall’s gun and shot him twice.

He then walked to the shopping mall, where Vann was waiting for her family, approached her car with the knife and demanded a ride, court records show.

Vann tried to drive off and fought back, but Dillbeck stabbed her more than 20 times and slit her throat, court records show. He crashed the car a short time later and was captured running from the scene.

On the day of his execution, Donald Dillbeck  went through his normal routine, Department of Corrections spokeswoman Michelle Glady said Thursday.

He visited with his spiritual adviser, she said.

At 9:45 a.m., he had his last meal: fried shrimp, mushrooms, onion rings, butter pecan ice cream, pecan pie and a chocolate bar, the Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY Network reported.

The curtain between the death chamber and the viewing room opened at 6 p.m. Thursday.

His last words: “I know I hurt people when I was young. I really messed up.” He also criticized Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, saying “he has done a lot worse. He’s taken a lot from a lot of people. I speak for all men, women and children. He’s put his foot on our necks.”

The execution began at 6:02 p.m., and Dillbeck closed his eyes shortly thereafter. He was declared dead roughly 10 minutes later.

Miles Bryant Charged With Susana Morales Murder

Susana Morales Miles Bryant 1

Former Georgia police officer Miles Bryant has been charged with the kidnapping and murder of sixteen year old Susana Morales. According to police reports Miles Bryant was arrested earlier this month for lying about Susana Morales death and for covering it up. Now Miles Bryant has been accused and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Susana Morales.

Susana Morales was reported missing by her family on July 16 2022 and would basically disappear. Several months later, February 2023, the body of Susana Morales was discovered. Police in Georgia began to watch Miles Bryant and soon they would have enough evidence to arrest him for covering up the murder. Now Miles Bryant has been charged with her kidnapping and murder.

Since his arrest Miles Bryant has been accused of stalking another woman after she saw Bryant lurking around her home and attempting to open up her door. The woman would report Miles Bryant behavior to his then employers Doraville Police and Gwinnett County Police. The police are now investigating the case.

Miles Bryant More News

The former Doraville police officer arrested as part of the investigation into the disappearance and death of 16-year-old Susana Morales has now been charged with her kidnapping and murder.

Morales had been missing since last July. Earlier this month, Gwinnett detectives arrested 22-year-old Miles Bryant of Norcross, accusing him of hiding the teen’s death and then lying about it. Wednesday, the Gwinnett County Police Chief say that they’ve upgraded Bryant’s charges to felony murder and kidnapping.

Morales’ family members told police they hadn’t seen her since the evening of July 26. That night, detectives said Morales texted her mom at 9:40 p.m. to tell her she was on her way to her home on Santa Anna Drive. Officials confirmed an app on Morales’ cell phone showed that she was walking in that direction on Singleton Road from Windscape Village Lane between 10:07 p.m. and 10:21 p.m., but detectives said they have reason to believe she died between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. on the next day.

Between 10:21 p.m. and 10:26 p.m., her phone indicated that she was in the area of Oak Loch Trace and Steve Reynolds Boulevard. Her phone pinged that location until it either died or was turned off. Morales never made it home.

A breakthrough in the case came on Feb. 6, when officers responded to the area between Drowning Creek and Barrow County after someone reported seeing what they believed were human remains in the forest.

The Gwinnett Medical Examiners’ office tested the remains and said the DNA matched Morales’ dental records. The site was about 20 miles from where the teen was last seen. In a search of the area around where Morales’ body was found, officials say they found a firearm belonging to Bryant that he had reported stolen on the same day the teen was reported missing.

After marking Bryant a person of interest in the case, officials say they began watching his activities and eventually found evidence that “directly linked” him to the crime.

In the warrant application, officials allege that Bryant, who was working as a Doraville police officer at the time of Morales’ death, lives close to where she was last reported on Windscape Village Lane and dumped her naked body in the woods.

While police mentioned in their warrant application that they suspected Bryant of rape, he has not been charged with the offense. Gwinnett County James McClure says that it “is a possibility” the teen was sexually assaulted.

“What we do know is that she died at the hands of Miles Bryant,” McClure said.

Calling Morales’ death an “unspeakable tragedy,” McClure said that the fact the crime was allegedly committed by a law enforcement officer “evoked anger” within the ranks of his agency.

At this point, investigators say there is no evidence that anyone else was involved in Morales’ death.

Speaking to FOX 5, Susana’s older sister Jasmine Morales says that the family believes that the teen did not know Bryant and that her death was a stranger-on-stranger crime.

Jasmine told FOX 5 her parents are not doing well since news broke of the arrest and warrant. She said they are still hopeful they can get her justice soon.

The family hopes those who have information on what happened will speak up.

“That’s why I did a post for anybody with information to come forward, because all that can be used as evidence against him. He is the only one who knows what happened,” the older sister said.Jasmine told FOX 5 her parents are not doing well since news broke of the arrest and warrant. She said they are still hopeful they can get her justice soon

After Bryant’s arrest, a Snellville woman came forward to FOX 5 claiming she was stalked by him around the same time that Morales disappeared.

.Elesha Bates, 21, says that she had known Bryant since fifth grade, and that Ring video provided by a neighbor showed him lurking around her apartment door and tugging at the doorknob.

Ms. Bates believes Ring video her neighbor gave her is Miles Bryant as he was lurking around her door with a hood on his head, tugging at her doorknob. She says he even broke in one time when she was not home.

“When my neighbor told me that she saw Miles come into our community and mess with my door when I wasn’t home, just trying to see if I was home messing with my doorknob and stuff. Once she showed me the video, it was all alarming,” Ms. Bates said.

She says Bryant became so aggressive she feared for her life and reported the then police officer to his employer Doraville Police and Gwinnett County Police.

Doraville Police says they launched an administrative investigation, talked to Bryant and the behavior stopped. Doraville Police says they told Bates to report any potential criminal charges to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Gwinnett County Police says they are not sure why her complaint was not followed up on, but they are reopening the case.

Speaking on Wednesday, McClure said that they do not believe the two incidents are connected.

A 28-year-old woman who killed her 23-month-old son before burning, dismembering and burying his remains was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.

Nakira Griner admitted to burning and dismembering Daniel Griner Jr.’s remains in 2019, but denied intentionally killing the baby.

Griner initially claimed she was assaulted with the infant strapped to her chest and had the baby stolen in a series of frantic 911 calls.

Officers and members of the public searched for the child, but when they found no evidence, Griner changed her story.

She claimed her baby fell down a flight of stairs, and that, fearing she would be blamed for the incident, she left Daniel alive in a stroller in a public space. She told investigators she hoped someone would find and help him.

Soon after, police found the baby’s burned and dismembered remains buried in the backyard of the family’s Bridgerton home.

Griner was convicted of murder, desecration of remains, tampering with evidence and false public alarm last month.

SAN ANTONIO
 – San Antonio police arrested a University of the Incarnate Word freshman track athlete Thursday after she allegedly stabbed a woman with a screwdriver and kidnapped a three-year-old boy from outside a Northeast Side apartment complex.

Myrajah Deshjonae Rankin, 19, is charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

It happened at about 2 p.m. on Thursday at an apartment complex in the 3200 block of Nacogdoches Road.

Police said the child’s mother noticed a stranger with her child. The stranger was later identified by police as Rankin.

The woman said she told Rankin to get away from her child, but Rankin grabbed the boy and tried to carry him away, police said.

When the mother tried to grab her child from Rankin, the suspect stabbed her forearm twice with a screwdriver and she lost her grip on the boy, police said.

Two people witnessed the crime, including a worker who grabbed the child out of Rankin’s arms, according to SAPD.

Omar Ortega said Rankin ran into his apartment through a sliding door. His wife and mother-in-law were inside at the time.

“The cops came in, and they were like, with their handguns, like saying, ‘You need to leave. We want to help you. Come out with your hands up,’” Ortega said.

Rankin was later found by police hiding in a closet.

Ortega said he’s thankful no one in his family was hurt, but the stress of watching it through a video feed was intense.

“Not being there, it’s very stressful. It’s like — you wish, like, every car disappeared at the moment, and you’re the only one driving,” he said.

Rankin was arrested and booked into the Bexar County Jail with bonds totaling $150,000.

Police were not able to provide a motivation for the alleged crimes but said the investigation continues and Rankin could face additional charges.

According to Rankin’s profile on UIW’s website, she is a freshman from Round Rock who competed in track meets as recently as last weekend.

A spokesperson for UIW issued the following statement on behalf of the University:

“The University of the Incarnate Word is aware of an off-campus incident involving student-athlete Myrajah Rankin. As this is an ongoing San Antonio Police Department Investigation, the University will have no further comment at this time.”

Shaye Groves Stabs Boyfriend To Death

Shaye Groves

Shaye Groves is a woman who had her bedroom decorated with photos of serial killers has been convicted of the murder of her boyfriend. According to court documents Shaye Groves would fatally stab Frankie Fitzgerald’ after she slit his throat. What exactly set out her murderous rage is not really clear however Shaye would tell police that she caught her boyfriend messaging a thirteen year old girl on Facebook. Shaye Groves who will be sentenced this week attempted to convince the jury that she was in fear of her life however the jury did not buy it and convicted her of murder.

Shaye Groves More News

A serial killer-obsessed woman who stabbed her boyfriend to death with a dagger has been found guilty of murder.

Shaye Groves slit 25-year-old Frankie Fitzgerald’s throat before plunging the blade into his chest 17 times at her home in Havant, Hampshire.

The 27-year-old, who used information from true crime documentaries to plan her alibi, tried to portray herself as the victim during a trial at Winchester Crown Court.

She will be sentenced on Wednesday.

The court heard Groves had knives, Viking axes and portraits of serial killers on her bedroom wall.

Steven Perian KC, prosecuting, told the jury Groves acted out of jealousy on 17 July last year, after she discovered her victim had been messaging a 13-year-old girl on Facebook.

“The killing of Frankie Fitzgerald is very likely to be a crime of passion driven by her jealousy,” the barrister said.

When police arrived, body-worn cameras showed Ms Groves telling officers Mr Fitzgerald had tried to attack her, the court was told.

Mr Perian said Groves used knowledge gained from documentaries to portray herself to a friend as a victim of sexual violence.

She sent the friend videos of the pair having sex, edited to appear as rape – but the prosecution said the original footage showed it was actually all consensual.

Mr Perian added: “The Crown say that the defendant – by reading about and watching murder documentaries – she was familiar with crime scenes, how to create a false narrative and how to set up a false alibi.

“She deliberately set up a false narrative of being abused by Frankie Fitzgerald, a false alibi she sent to Vicky Baitup and was cleaning the crime scene having watched these documentaries.”

Following conviction, the jury was told Groves had been dealing cannabis.

Det Ch Insp Nicola Burton, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: “Our thoughts, first and foremost, are with the family of Frankie Fitzgerald.

“I would like to praise their courage and hope that today’s verdict brings them some small relief, despite knowing that nothing can fill the void left in their family by the loss of Frankie.

“I hope that the sentence Groves receives in due course provides them with reassurance that justice has been secured for Frankie.”

Shaye Groves Sentencing

Ruthless killer Shaye Groves, 27, was locked away for murdering Frankie Fitzgerald, 25, after a frenzied knife attack at her Botley Drive, Leigh Park, home on July 17 in which she stabbed him in the neck and chest 22 times.

Groves, who denied the offence after pleading self-defence, smiled after she was found guilty by jurors at Winchester Crown Court last week following four days of deliberations – the same court her serial killer icon Rose West was jailed at in 1995.

Today she was back at the court to be sentenced by judge Timothy Kerr, who imposed a life term with a minimum sentence of 23 years. As the sentence was handed down, Groves, who had been seen joking in the dock during the trial and after she was found guilty, was motionless as the sentence was delivered.

Judge Kerr said described the killing as a ‘senseless murder’ that was a ‘crime of passion’. ‘You lost your temper and acted on impulse. If you could not have Frankie no one could,’ he said.

Frankie’s dad Barry, in a victim statement, said both he and Frankie’s mum were ‘broken‘ and ‘couldn’t believe it’ when police told him about their son’s killing. ‘He had his whole life in front of him. It was snatched from him,’ he said before continuing: ‘I want to wake up and believe it didn’t happen.’

He added: ‘I love you son. You are a shining light who will always be in our hearts.’

Frankie’s mum Roseanne described Frankie as her ‘shining light’ who was a ‘kind and beautiful person’, who was the youngest of her five children.

Frankie’s former partner and the mum of his two ‘beautiful’ young children, Charlene Scutt said his murder had been completely heartbreaking’ with her ‘struggling to imagine the future positively’.

Speaking of the impact on the children, she said: ‘I feel it will never be over as the children will always have questions.’

Referring to ‘thoughtful’ Frankie she added: ‘I don’t think he realised how much he was loved.’

Prosecutor Steven Perian KC described Groves as a ‘cold blooded murderer’ after Frankie was stabbed while asleep following an ‘overwhelming attack’. He clarified that Frankie had blocked a girl who had messaged him prior to the attack which the trial heard had led to Groves lashing out. The jury’s guilty verdict meant they ‘rejected’ her defence claims.

Groves’ barrister Michael Goodwin KC said there was a ‘lack of premeditation’ and said the relationship was ‘capable of being termed abusive’.
