The mother of twin girls — one of whom was killed and the other severely hurt in a “catastrophic” East Point apartment fire — has been arrested and charged with allegedly setting the fire, police confirm.

According to the East Point Police, 27-year-old Nicole Ashley Jackson, was arrested and booked in connection to the fire, which happened just the day before Thanksgiving.

Fulton County jail records show Jackson was booked on one count each of murder, felony malice murder and criminal attempt to commit a felony for the Nov. 23 fire. She also faces two counts of first degree cruelty to children.

On Wednesday evening, the fire tore through the Brookfield Apartments at 3072 Washington Road in East Point. Video from a witness at the scene showed smoke filling the air as crews responded.

A bystander, Ricardo Tolbert, said he was able to rescue one of the children, and she was taken to the hospital. He told 11Alive he tried to go back inside for the other girl and their mother, but the officials later confirmed that the child had died.

“It was during the search and rescue phase that the body of the little girl was was discovered in one of the upper units,” said Renita Shelton with East Point Fire.

The whereabouts of the mother had still been unclear, until police confirmed Saturday her arrest in connection to the fire. Records show that Jackson was scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. first appearance at the Fulton County jail, however she waived that appearance. Documents show that no bond was set.

Police are expected to give an update in the investigation in a press conference on Monday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.

Investigators are still working to piece together what took place in the moments leading up to Jackson allegedly setting the fire, which displaced seven other families.

The Fulton Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the name of the child who died.

“I’m glad I was there and able to save that baby’s life but I wish I could have been there earlier maybe I could have saved everybody’s life,” Tolbert said.

William and Carina McCue Charged In Fatal Fire

William and Carina McCue

William and Carina McCue are from Georgia and have now been charged in the fatal fire that killed their ten year old daughter however the story that is coming out is so much worse. Back in April 2022 William and Carina McCue son, a fifteen year old boy who has not been publicly named, set fire to their home and their ten year old daughter who was locked in a room would die in the fire.

Now after a lengthy police investigation William and Carina McCue have now been charged with three counts of felony murder, two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, one count of aggravated assault and one count of false imprisonment in the death of their daughter, Zoe McCue. According to police reports the children suffered horrific abuse in the household. Now of course the question I am asking is what will happen with the murder charge that the fifteen year old boy is facing for he admitted to police he knew that his family was home when he set the fatal fire.

William and Carina McCue More News

The parents of a 10-year-old girl who died in a house fire in April have been indicted on murder charges in Gwinnett County.

Loganville couple William McCue, 47, and Carina McCue, 38, were charged with three counts of felony murder, two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, one count of aggravated assault and one count of false imprisonment in the death of their daughter, Zoe McCue. The couple were denied bond Sept. 13 in Gwinnett County Superior Court when a judge said they posed a risk of fleeing and failing to return to court if released.

According to the indictment, Zoe had been locked in her room by her parents when her 15-year-old brother intentionally set fire to the home April 17.

The teen was found at a church in Rockdale County hours after the blaze and admitted to investigators he intentionally set fire to the house. He was taken into custody on murder and arson charges. Gwinnett County Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Wanda Vance, who is working on the 15-year-old’s case, said those charges remain unindicted but are pending in Superior Court.

According to his arrest warrant, the teen knew his family was inside when he started the fire.

Zoe’s remains were located in a windowless bathroom where investigators found a makeshift bed in the bathtub, authorities said.

While investigating the fire, detectives discovered the couple’s five children were living in “unsanitary and dangerous” conditions.

According to a Division of Family and Children Services case manager, the home did not have a sewage system and the children were believed not to have showered in months. The case manager stated in a report that they had not been outside the home in years.

The couple allegedly used their hands, belts and a metal pipe to strike and beat the children, deprived them of running water, made them use the toilet in buckets in their bedrooms, made them stand on cinderblocks for extended periods of time and refused to allow them bathroom breaks resulting in the children soiling themselves, according to the indictment.

The children were also whipped until they collapsed during punishments, shocked with electric collars, not allowed to attend school or be home-schooled, and isolated so they didn’t see their siblings or neighbors, the indictment states.

The couple, who had been on the run since early May, were found on the Appalachian Trail in June. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office took them into custody near Helen.

The remaining three children were taken into protective custody by the state following the fire.

Darlene Brister Charged With 3 Kids Murders

Darlene Brister

Darlene Brister is a woman from Georgia who has just been charged with the murders of 3 children and attempted to kill 2 more. According to police reports Darlene Brister would stab five of the children in the home before setting the house on fire. Three of the children would die from their injuries and the two others would be hospitalised. Georgia police are still trying to figure out what would lead Darlene Brister to commit such a heinous act. So far Darlene Brister has been charged with three counts of malice murder with more charges pending. Needless to say this has death penalty all over it.

Darlene Brister More News

A woman is accused of murder after a fire and alleged attempted stabbing. Deputies said they found seven juveniles at a home in Paulding County, Georgia, on Friday night. Of the five got hurt, two were dead at the scene. Then a third died at a hospital. Authorities later announced that a fourth passed away, but they walked that back, after saying they had a miscommunication with hospital staff.

“Major correction, we were informed incorrectly,” Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tyler McSwain told Law&Crime in an email. “The 4th child did not pass away but is still in critical condition. There was miscommunication with hospital staff.”

Darlene Brister, 40, faces two counts of malice murder. Deputies suggested more charges were likely, according to The Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionWSB-TV described Brister as the children’s mother.

“At approximately 9:19pm on June 24th, 2022, Paulding E-911 received a call about a domestic disturbance and house fire at 776 Woodwind Dr., Rockmart, GA 30153,” deputies said in an initial news release. “It was reported that a female who was inside the home was attempting to stab the occupants and that at the time of the call, the home was on fire and the occupants were inside.”

Deputies and firefighter arrived, officials said. Authorities put out the fire.

That leaves only four children alive, with two of them injured

“Since the victims involved are juveniles, their personal and identifying information will not be released at this time,” deputies said.

Officials did not say how the children specifically died: the fire, any alleged stabbing, or both.

Several neighbors said the family lived at the home for almost five years, but while they saw them often, they did not know them well, according to WSB-TV. They described hearing about ongoing domestic problems at the residence, though they said they did not think it would get this bad.

“She doesn’t talk to anyone,” neighbor Edward Swinger said.

“We would see them but we wouldn’t communicate with them,”  neighbor Willie Hayes said.

Locals voiced shock and outrage at what allegedly happened.

“I just don’t know who would do that to their kids,” neighbor Holly Addison said.

“She had to be sick or so selfish and so self-centered that she didn’t care about anything or anyone,” another neighbor Robin Zerby said

“For that woman to do that is unbelievably selfish,” David Zerby said, according to WAGA. “All she had to do was take the kids to a hospital … drop them off.”

Brister was locked up without bond at Paulding County Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said.

Ricky Allen Dubose More News

Ricky Allen “Juvie” Dubose is the latest inmate in Georgia to be sentenced to death for the crime of murder.

Dubose shot to death Georgia Department of Corrections Sgt. Curtis Bernard Billue and Sgt. Christopher James Monica during an escape from a state prison transport bus on June 13,2017, in Putnam County.

A jury of six men and six women from Glynn County deliberated nearly three hours Thursday afternoon before returning a unanimous verdict of death against the 29-year-old condemned killer in Putnam County Superior Court in Eatonton.

The double-death sentence, plus 20 years, was imposed against Dubose by Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Alison T. Burleson shortly before 3:30 p.m.

The judge reviewed the verdict of the jurors and then told them, along with the five alternate jurors, that they were allowed to stay in the courtroom for the sentencing procedure or they could leave and board a mini-bus back to Glynn County. All 17 jurors opted to leave the courtroom with the thanks of the court for their service.

Dubose stood with Georgia Capital Defender Attorneys Amber Pittman, Nathanael Studelska, Gerald “Jerry” Word and Shayla Galloway, as Burleson imposed the punishment against him. As was the case throughout the trial, Dubose showed no emotion.

Jurors deliberating Dubose’s fate determined there were aggravated circumstances related to the murders of the officers. They both worked in the transportation hub at Baldwin State Prison near Milledgeville. Both men also lived in Baldwin County.

Evidence presented during the 10-day murder trial revealed that Dubose is a member of the Ghost Face Gangsters, a criminal gang that operates in and out of Georgia prisons.

While family members of the slain officers received the justice they had been seeking for their loved ones, others in the courtroom, including his wife, could be seen crying for Dubose. The couple reportedly married some time ago while Dubose awaited trial in the five-year-old double-murder case.

Members of the Billue and Monica families embraced several people who joined them in the courtroom gallery to support them. Many of them included employees and officials from the Georgia Department of Corrections, as well as church groups, victim advocates from the district attorney’s office, along with District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale III, Chief Assistant District Attorney Allison Mauldin, Assistant District Attorney Blyne May and Putnam County Sheriff Howard R. Sills.

Dubose, who had worn dress slacks, a long sleeve dress shirt and a necktie every day of his trial, was immediately handcuffed after sentencing. He then met briefly with his defense team and was then told to change from his dress clothes into white inmate prison garb before he was placed into the rear seat of a patrol car and taken back to the Georgia Special Management Unit (SMU) prison near Jackson.

He now is among more than 40 men and one woman on death row in Georgia.

Ricky Allen Dubose Suicide

A 29-year-old man has died behind bars more than a week after he was sentenced to death for murdering two prison guards in Georgia

Ricky Allen Dubose hanged himself, a local law enforcement official said, according to The Union-Recorder.

“He committed suicide,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard R. Sill told the outlet. “The suicide could be done about as quick as it took for him to murder Billue and Monica. It doesn’t take long to do It. If somebody is going to do it, it can happen in a matter of seconds.”

The sheriff said he confirmed Dubose’s death with Georgia Department of Corrections personnel. The agency did not specify a cause of death in a press release issued Sunday.

“On June 26, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Ricky Dubose (GDC#1000492869) unresponsive in his cell,” officials said. “Emergency Medical Services were called and life saving measures were performed. Dubose was pronounced deceased by the coroner at the facility at 5:56 p.m. GDC, in conjunction with the GBI is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.”

Dubose’s defense mourned for him, said a member of the team.

“This is extremely devastating to all of us, even though I’d only known Ricky closely for about a year,” attorney Gerald “Jerry” Word told The Union-Recorder. “Amber Pittman and Nathanael Studelska had gotten to know him for five years. And Shayla Galloway had gotten to know him well, too.”

Dubose and fellow inmate Donnie Rowe overpowered two prison guards — officers Curtis Billue and Christopher Monica — on a prison transport bus in June 2017. Dubose took one of their guns, and fatally shot them. He and Rowe fled after carjacking a nearby driver, reaching Tennessee. They held a couple hostage, tied them up, took their valuables and clothes, and threatened them to keep quiet, Bedford County Sheriff Austin Swing said at the time, according to The Associated Press. But the fugitives ultimately surrendered. Law enforcement said they gave themselves up not to officials, but to a local man.

“I realized I had two ex-cons wanted for murder who had just shot at law enforcement who had nothing to lose and for some reason they surrendered and laid down on the concrete in my driveway,” Patrick Hale told the AP at the time. “If that doesn’t make you believe in Jesus Christ, I don’t know what does.”

Although both men separately went to trial and were convicted, Dubose was the one who received the death penalty as the actual gunman. Rowe received a sentence of life in prison without parole. Dubose’s attorneys argued in court that Rowe was the one directing their client’s actions, and that their client was intellectually disabled.

“Ricky did shoot at people, Ricky did,” attorney Gabrielle Pittman said, according to WMAZ. “But you know who was driving, you know who put the gun in his hands, you know who told him to hang out the window and shoot? That was Donnie.”

Prosecutor T. Wright Barksdale called Dubose “an intelligent, calculated criminal,” however.

Billue and Monica’s families welcomed the verdict and sentence against Dubose.

“The closure that the judicial system has brought to us has given us great hope because I know the next step is going to be healing,” Curtis’ sister Denise Billue said, according to WMAZ in a June 16 report.  “We know that we will never move on without Curt, but we will move forward.”

“I’m extremely grateful for everybody involved in making this happen and getting justice for my dad,” Christopher’s daughter Zoey Monica said. “I’m just excited about getting to finally feel some sort of peace with everything.”
