On May 29, 2023, shortly before 4 a.m., the Houston Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds in a ditch at 900 Northwood St. Houston Fire Department paramedics also went to the scene and pronounced the victim, later identified as 37-year-old Sean Showers, dead.

Police allege James Spencer fatally shot Showers from inside a vehicle while the victim was walking along a roadway. According to KPRC-TV, the suspect pretended to be a minor and planned to meet with Showers under the guise of a sexual arrangement.

KPRC reports that Spencer believed law enforcement officials weren’t doing enough to keep child predators in prison, and he wanted to take matters into his own hands and hurt them.

Officers arrested Spencer nearly nine months after the fatal shooting, on Wednesday, Jan. 31. He was booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of murder and remains held on $250,000 bond. Spencer faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Prior to the shooting, Showers pleaded guilty in 2009 to possessing child pornography, according to the Houston Division of the FBI. The victim reportedly served time in federal prison, and he failed to register as a sex offender.

A Texas man is charged with murder after allegedly posing as a minor to meet and kill a convicted sex offender, according to authorities.

The Houston Police Department alleges that in May 2023, James Spencer III, 22, shot and killed victim Sean Connery Showers, 37.

Police claim Showers approached a vehicle in the early morning hours of May 29 and then was shot by the suspect, who at the time was unidentified. Upon further investigation, police arrested Spencer, who they claim admitted to the killing.

Showers was found in a ditch with multiple gunshot wounds, police say.

Citing authorities, Click 2 Houston and ABC 13 report that Spencer allegedly claimed to be a minor online, in an attempt to lure Showers under the guise of sex, who he believed was a sex offender.

Showers pleaded guilty to possessing child sex abuse material in 2009, federal authorities said at the time, ABC 13 reports. Showers was sentenced to 30 months in prison and then to two years in 2019 for failing to register as a sex offender, per the outlet.

In a press conference aired by ABC 13, prosecutor Rehaman Merchant said Spencer set up a meeting and knew exactly where Showers was going to be the night of the murder.

“Regardless of the likability of the victim, we’re a nation of laws,” Merchant said at the press conference. “So no one gets to be judge, jury and executioner depending on how they feel.”

It is not immediately clear if Spencer has entered a plea or retained an attorney.

Christopher Preciado Charged In Savanah Soto Murder

Christopher Preciado

Christopher Preciado has been charged with the murders of Savanah Soto and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra

According to police reports San Antonio Texas police found the bodies of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra inside of a vehicle in December 2023. With the use of cell phone belonging to Savanah police were able to track her movements on the day she and Matthew were murdered

San Antonio police would go to the home of Christopher Preciado who would be arrested and charged with capital murder as well his father Ramon Preciado who would be charged with abuse of a corpse. Police believe the double murder was a result of a drug deal gone wrong

Christopher Preciado News

Eight days after the bodies of Matthew Guerra and Savanah Soto were found in a car in the Medical Center area, a father and son have been arrested in their killings, according to San Antonio police.

Sgt. Washington Moscoso said the son, Christopher Preciado, 19, is facing a capital murder charge, while the father, Ramon Preciado, 53, is facing a charge of abuse of a corpse.

Moscoso said that when the bodies were found, an investigation began and detectives with SAPD started collecting evidence from that location. He added that a key piece of evidence that was collected was Soto’s cell phone, as it helped detectives get a possible location of where the suspect’s vehicle was located.

After detectives did some surveillance, Moscoso said they were able to determine where the vehicle’s owner lives.

Officers made their way to the residence, and when Ramon answered the door, Moscoso said Ramon knew why the police were there. Both Ramon and Christopher were at the home at the time and were brought in for interrogations.

Moscoso added that based on what Ramon and Christopher said during the interrogation, “there was enough information to get a warrant signed by a judge tonight.”

“There was a lot of misinformation out there. These two individuals were the only suspects we were looking for,” Moscoso said. “There were a lot of names going around on the Internet; they had nothing to do with this.”

Moscoso said it appears to be a narcotics-related deal that went bad.

The high-profile case started when 18-year-old Soto and her 22-year-old boyfriend Guerra were deemed missing the week of Christmas. Soto was scheduled to have her labor induced Dec. 23, when relatives say they couldn’t get in touch with her.

The pair were found shot dead in their car on the afternoon of Dec. 26. But Moscoso said the murders were carried out the night of Dec. 21., just before midnight.

Police later released footage of unidentified persons of interest who were seen in the area, including one driving the car Soto and Guerra were found in.

Christopher Preciado Other News

A father and son were arrested Wednesday in connection with the deaths of Savanah Soto and her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, late last month, according to San Antonio police.

Christopher Preciado, 19, has been charged with capital murder. His father, 53-year-old Ramon Preciado, was charged with abuse of a corpse in the case.

San Antonio police said they collected a cellphone as a critical piece of evidence when they discovered Soto and Guerra’s bodies in a Northwest Side apartment complex parking lot on Dec. 26.

Information on the phone led detectives to the suspect vehicle seen in a surveillance video police had shared on Dec. 28.

Officers conducted surveillance when they arrived where they believed the suspect vehicle was located.

Police knocked on the door, and Ramon Preciado answered and said he knew why police were there, according to SAPD.

The father and son were then taken into custody and questioned downtown at police headquarters.

SAPD said a judge signed a warrant for their arrest based on the information provided during questioning.

Police said the deaths were in connection with a botched drug deal, and Soto and Guerra were killed on Dec. 21 before midnight.

Christopher Preciado is the alleged sole killer in the case, according to police. SAPD said his father helped hide the bodies.

There is no connection to where the bodies were found on Dec. 26. Police said they were dumped there after they were killed at a different location.

SAPD said the department would be working with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office to determine any further charges since Soto was pregnant and about to give birth at the time of her death.

Police say Christopher Preciado has no previous criminal history, and his father had some criminal history.

KSAT will bring you the latest developments in this case as they become available.

Rafael Govea Romero Charged In Lizbeth Medina Murder

Rafael Govea Romero

Rafael Govea Romero has been arrested in Texas for the murder of sixteen year old Lizbeth Medina

According to police reports sixteen year old Lizbeth Medina was found murdered inside of her apartment in Edna Texas. A surveillance video was released a couple of days later which would lead to the arrest of Rafael Govea Romero

Rafael Govea Romero who is an undocumented male has been charged with capital murder

Rafael Govea Romero News

Texas police have apprehended a suspect in the murder of 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina, who was found dead in her apartment on Dec. 5.

The Edna Police Department on Sunday announced the arrest of Rafael Govea Romero, an “undocumented male” whom officials believe is “the person responsible for the death of Lizbeth Medina,” in Schulenburg.

“Edna Police Department and Texas Rangers immediately traveled to Schulenburg where Rafael Govea Romero was placed under arrest for Capital Murder and transported to Jackson County Jail,” the department said in a Sunday morning press release. “Although Romero is apprehended, we recognize Lizbeth’s family and friends are grieving and still need support from the community. The citizens of Edna can now sleep in peace!”

When asked whether she knows or recognizes the suspect, Lizbeth’s mother, Jacqueline Medina, told Fox News Digital, “Not at all.” She is waiting for more information from police.

Lizbeth’s murder came as a shock to the Edna community last week as authorities hunted the teenager’s suspected killer

Jacqueline Medina told Fox News Digital last week that she came home on Tuesday evening to find Lizbeth dead in the bathtub of their residence at the Cottonwood Apartments after she had not seen or heard from the 16-year-old that afternoon.

“I decided to go look for her. And I kept calling her phone nonstop, and it would take me straight to voicemail… I called a bunch of people and nobody knew anything. It wasn’t until I walked into the restroom that I was on the phone with my friend asking him to come help me look for her – is when I [saw] her foot, and it was in the bathtub. And so I opened the curtains. There she was,” Medina said.

Medina left for work around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. She said she woke her daughter up before she left because she had to get ready for cheer practice. The last anyone heard from Lizbeth was around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Medina said. After that, friends and family assumed her phone must have died.

The Monday prior, Lizbeth had been sick from school, so friends did not find it unusual that she did not show up to school again on Tuesday.

Medina finished work on Tuesday afternoon to attend a Christmas parade that Lizbeth was supposed to be in. But she did not see her daughter at the parade and began asking friends and family to help locate her. That is when she returned to her apartment and found Lizbeth dead in their bathtub.

“I don’t understand why. My God, why would they do this to her?” Medina said. “She’s such a beautiful, smart, and amazing girl. There’s moments where I just can’t take it. And then there’s moments where I feel like I need to be strong for her.”

She and her daughter were living in the apartment complex temporarily after Medina moved from Nebraska to Texas for her job in renewable energy. She and Lizbeth were the only two people who had keys to the apartment, she said.

Rafael Govea Romero was arrested a day after Edna police shared security camera footage of a person of interest in the case.

Medina previously described her daughter as “an amazing, good girl.” She was “very mature” and cared deeply for her friends and family.

“I just want everybody to know that that was an amazing child,” Medina said. “She wasn’t a normal teenager getting in trouble for doing crazy stuff. She was very mature for her age. She was a caring and loving person who, as far as I know and from the messages I received, she changed a lot of people’s lives. I just want everybody to remember her that way and not the way that she was taken from me.”

The Medina family has created a GoFundMe for their efforts to find Liz’s suspected killer titled “Justice for Lizbeth Medina

Police in San Antonio would find the bodies of two more victims that they believed took place before he traveled to Austin, tentatively the two victims are believed to be Shane’s parents

Shane James has been charged with two murders however many more charges are pending

Shane James News

A 34-year-old man was identified Wednesday morning as the suspect in a central Texas shooting rampage that unfolded over hours in two large cities and left his parents and four other people dead, and three people injured, including two police officers, authorities said.

Austin police investigators “strongly believe” the suspect, Shane James, is connected to the violent string of incidents in Austin that unfolded over a span of eight hours on Tuesday. James was being held Wednesday without bail on a charge of capital murder, authorities said, adding that more charges were pending.

Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson said the chain of events occurred at four different locations in the state capital on Tuesday and one near San Antonio. She said the deadly crime spree began in Austin Tuesday morning with the shooting of an Austin Independent School District police officer near Northeast Early College High School, prompting a lockdown of the school.

“Based on the information obtained over the course of these investigations, we strongly believe one suspect is responsible for all of the incidents,” Henderson said at a news conference Tuesday night.

Investigators are working to determine any relationship James may have had with the people who were shot in Austin and what prompted the violence.

The two victims found dead at a home near San Antonio Tuesday night were James’ parents, 56-year-old Shane James Sr. and 55-year-old Phyllis James, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Henderson said investigators didn’t connect the series of episodes until the final one occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday, when an Austin police officer was wounded in a gunfight with the suspect in the backyard of a home, where two people were later found dead inside.

Henderson said the wounded officer, a 12-year veteran of the Austin Police Department, responded to the residence in southwest Austin after a 911 caller reported a burglary in progress at the location.

The officer went to the backyard of the home on Austral Loop and encountered the suspect, who immediately opened fire, hitting the officer multiple times, Henderson said. She said the officer, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, returned fire but missed the assailant, who ran to a vehicle and fled the scene.

Other officers chased the suspect, who crashed at an intersection and was taken into custody, Henderson said.

The names of the two victims killed in the Austral Loop shooting have not been released.

Following James’ arrest, Austin police contacted the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and informed them the suspect had a connection to a residence near San Antonio, about 80 miles southwest of Austin, Sheriff Salazar said.

Salazar said deputies who were sent to the house to do a welfare check on the occupants found a “grisly” scene and the bodies of the suspect’s parents, who were shot multiple times with a large-caliber weapon and “wedged inside a very small room.”

Salazar said investigators believe the parents were killed sometime between 10 p.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. on Tuesday, before the suspect went to Austin to continue his alleged killing rampage. He said James’ parents were last heard from around 10 p.m. on Monday.

Salazar also said Shane James was involved in several previous incidents where deputies were called to the family’s house to intervene. He said James, who he described as a former member of the military, struggled with mental health issues for years.

He said on Jan. 6, 2022, Shane James was arrested on three misdemeanor counts stemming from an alleged assault on his parents and a sibling.

“The family stated that James does not belong in jail, that he has mental health issues,” Salazar said.

He said Shane James was released from jail on March 7, 2022, after a judge reduced his bond from $500 on each misdemeanor count to $100 on each account and relaxed restrictions on him from having no contact with his parents or siblings to having no threatening or harmful contact with them.

Salazar said that as part of James’ release, he was required to wear an ankle monitoring device. He said a day after Shane James was released from jail, he cut off his ankle monitoring device, prompting misdemeanor warrants to be issued for his arrest.

Salazar said the last time his deputies had contact with James was in August when they were called to the family’s home again. He said Shane James’ father asked deputies to intervene, claiming his “son was naked, he was acting out, had a mental health episode and was upstairs in his bedroom.”

He said deputies tried to talk Shane James into coming out of his room but were limited by law in what they could do because James was only wanted at the time on misdemeanor warrants.

“They were making every effort to avoid a violent confrontation,” Salazar said of his deputies, adding that at the time, Shane James was unarmed and yelling derogatory comments at the deputies.

Salazar said that as deputies stood by, James’ father partially forced open his son’s bedroom door, which was blocked by a bed, and deputies could see James lying naked on a bed.

Unable to get Shane James to come out of the room, the deputies left the house and asked the father to call them if he came out of the room, Salazar said. He said the father never called back.

“I wish we could have been able to get him into custody,” Salazar said.

Salazar said Shane James is expected to be charged in Bexar County with either murder or capital murder.

The series of shootings in Austin began at about 10:43 a.m. on Tuesday, when the school resource officer was shot in the leg, Austin Independent School District Police Chief Wayne Sneed said.

About two hours later, a man and a woman were found shot inside a home near Shadywood Drive on Austin’s south side, said Austin police Sgt. Destiny Silva. She said officers responded to the home after multiple 911 callers reported gunshots coming from the residence. Austin police identified the victims found at the house as 32-year-old Emmanuel Pop Ba, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and 24-year-old Sabrina Rahman, who died after being taken to a hospital.

Silva said one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene and the other died after being taken to a hospital.

At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, a 39-year-old cyclist called 911 and reported he’d been shot and injured near the 5700 block of West Slaughter Lane in Austin, police said.

Roughly two hours later, the gunfight between the veteran police officer and the suspect erupted on Austral Loop that preceded the suspect’s arrest.

Henderson said the gunfight between the suspect and the veteran police officer was captured on the cop’s body camera, and the footage will be made public within 10 business days in keeping with Austin Police Department policy.

As police were investigating the Texas rampage, an unrelated shooting broke out at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in which three staff and faculty members at the school were killed. The suspect, who law enforcement sources identified to ABC News as 67-year-old Anthony Polito, died in a gunfight with police. Polito had applied for a college professorship at UNLV, but was not hired, sources said.

President Joe Biden released a statement responding to the Texas and Nevada shootings, saying he and first lady, Jill Biden, “join citizens across our nation in praying for the families of our fallen, and for those who were injured during these latest acts of senseless violence.”

“Federal law enforcement officials are on the ground working with state and local law enforcement in both states and I have directed that all necessary support be provided to assist in the investigations and support these communities,” Biden said. “This year alone, our nation has experienced more than 600 mass shootings, and approximately 40,000 deaths due to gun violence. This is not normal, and we can never let it become normal. For all the action we have taken since I’ve been president, the epidemic of gun violence we face demands that we do even more.”
