A grand jury indicted the father of a Garland 14-year-old triple murder suspect after authorities said he drove his son to and from the fatal shooting.

Richard Acosta Jr., 33, was indicted on a capital murder of multiple persons charge by a Dallas County grand jury Thursday.

The shooting happened on the day after Christmas, when police said Acosta’s son, 14-year-old Abel Elias Acosta, opened fire in a Garland Texaco, killing three other teenagers and injuring one other person.

Authorities said Richard didn’t pull the trigger, but he did help his son commit the murders.

He is accused of driving his son to the Texaco gas station, where police said the 14-year-old is seen on video firing multiple gunshots.

“In the video, it’s clear as day, Abel Acosta was the one to pull the trigger. The father was in the car and he is still charged with capital murder,” Garland PD Lt. Pedro Barineau said. “There are certain parts of investigations and involvements in cases, where even though someone may not have caused the injury or damage, they too can be charged with the exact same crime.”

Police identified Richard Acosta Jr by using surveillance video and he turned himself in after seeing his image on the news after the shooting, but Abel has been on the run since the shooting.

“We have not gotten any assistance from him. We have gotten nothing in leading to where Abel Acosta is,” Barineau said.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information on the teen, but police have not yet received any concrete leads into his whereabouts.

Investigators said they are regularly getting tips as to where the teenager may be, but none so far have resulted in finding him.

They don’t even know if he’s still in the country.

“He is 14, yes, which leads us to believe he is reliant on some people, but we can’t prove that,” Barineau said. “The fact that he is nowhere around and no one is coming forward leads us to believe someone is helping.”

While tips have not been fruitful yet, Barineau said detectives won’t stop until they get justice for the victims.

“They don’t rest well because, as police officer’s our job is to keep our community safe. So when there is someone we know is armed and dangerous, who has committed such a horrendous act, killing three people, wounding a fourth, shooting multiple times, they are still out there, that’s hard for us because we know that people can’t rest,” he added.

In a previous court hearing, Richard Acosta Jr s attorney said he did not see the shooting happen and did not know what his son was planning.

According to police reports Melissa Blair had sexual relations with at least nine high school students and afterwards she would give them gifts such as vape pens. An Englewood woman posted bail after being indicted on charges regarding sexually assaulting nine high school students, according to McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy

The woman, Melissa Blair, 38, was indicted on 23 total charges, 18 of which were for aggravated statutory rape, four counts of human trafficking by patronizing prostitution, and one count of solicitation of a minor, officials released Tuesday afternoon.

The Department of Children’s Services notified detectives on Dec. 9 that Blair had sexual encounters with male juveniles who were students at McMinn Central High School.

A search warrant was executed at Blair’s residence on Dec. 15 by the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office. She was then banned from school property and activities.

“The search warrant revealed additional evidence, and our investigation grew larger as more parents and victims contacted us,” Sheriff Guy said.

According to the sheriff, there were nine confirmed victims, all juveniles at the time. Two are now adults, officials said. The incidents range in date from Spring 2020 to late 2021, according to Guy.

“We suspect there may be additional juvenile victims, and we encourage them or their parents to contact us,” Sheriff Guy said. “There may possibly be other victims who are now adults, and we also encourage them to contact us.”

Blair set up meetings with the victims through social media and offered trading items for sexual favors, said Guy.

Director of McMinn County Schools Lee Parkison said that Blair was involved in booster clubs with the school, “just like most parents involved with the school,” but did not work for the school in an official capacity. Blair had a student enrolled at the school that later transferred, according to Parkison.

“When you’re dealing with kids and families and communities, it’s just part of it,” said Parkison. “It’s just part of the job. We just happen to hit these rough spots pretty close together.”

McMinn County Schools representative and School Counselor Supervisor Lori Hutchinson provided a statement on the situation, saying the school system plans to offer services for students.

She had a $100,000 bond which she paid and was released Tuesday evening. Her next court appearance will be held on Feb. 28.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Wayne Lotz was arrested with a number of belongings of Michelle Scott on his possession. Wayne Lotz More News

Wayne Lotz has been arrested in the murder of Michele Scott. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially arrested Lotz, 58, early Tuesday morning, several hours before Scott’s body was found.

The investigation began when deputies were dispatched to the 27000 block of South Timber Trail in Conifer for a welfare check on the night of Feb. 13. Neighbors were worried about the resident of the home, later identified as Scott, 55, who had not been seen for a couple of days. When deputies arrived, they found the home dark and locked with no one home.

Neighbors spoke with a member of Scott’s family who gave them permission to enter the home. Once inside neighbors found the dogs had not been cared for, which caused concern. Deputies returned to the home at 8 a.m. Monday and found evidence suggesting foul play. Deputies immediately began searching the property and began to search for Scott.

Deputies say evidence found on her property gave them reason to believe that her ex-boyfriend, Lotz, was a person of interest in her disappearance. Jeffco Sheriff’s Office said there is a history of domestic violence calls at that residence involving the couple. The most recent call was Feb. 7. No arrests were made at the time.

Lotz was surveilled and found to be driving Scott’s vehicle, a 2005 red Toyota Highlander and in possession of her credit card. That prompted deputies to contact and arrest Lotz for a variety of charges, including aggravated motor vehicle theft and criminal possession of a financial device. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday. Lotz has a lengthy criminal history in Jefferson and Park counties.

Investigators said that forensic technology led them to a location where Scott’s body was discovered just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, near the intersection of Pleasant Park Road and High Grade Road in Conifer. Wayne Lotz faces charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and tampering with a deceased human body

Deputies could use the public’s help in the case. They are asking residents and businesses in the area to look at their security camera footage from the past week for Michele’s red Toyota Highlander. If you have any information on this case, please call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612. Callers can remain anonymous.

A disgraced Louisiana teacher has pleaded guilty to “horrific crimes” against children and admitted to serving her students cupcakes that contained sperm from her ex-husband, who is awaiting his own trial on child sex crime charges, according to authorities.

Cynthia Perkins, 36, agreed to plead guilty and testify against her ex, 44-year-old former Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT member Dennis Perkins, who is also charged with dozens of child sex crimes, according to prosecutors.

“She not only waived any right to appeal, and attempt to avoid conviction, but she also spared the victims from reliving her horrific crimes during this particular trial,” Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said Monday. “Today’s conviction is in the best interest of our victims and justice.”

Cynthia Perkins was a junior high English teacher until she resigned after police raided the couple’s home. The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office immediately fired Dennis Perkins, who had been a special operations lieutenant.

Investigators said they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the Denham Springs couple in 2019. Police seized photographs of the couple posing nude with a child, as well as other evidence while serving a search warrant in October of that year.

Court documents reported by WBRZ in May revealed that police also found pictures of Perkins’ students eating the semen-laced cupcakes and that the couple allegedly raped a child between the ages of 9 and 10. Investigators allegedly found hidden cameras in their attic and bathroom and said they uncovered more pictures on an iPhone.

The couple had initially been charged with 60 counts of production of child porn, rape and other crimes. Prosecutors also accused Dennis Perkins of obscenity, video voyeurism and possessing child porn.

Livingston Sheriff Jason Ard said at the time that although Perkins had been a longtime officer who he considered a friend, “no one is above the law.”

“This type of alleged behavior will not be tolerated by me or anyone at the LPSO,” he said.

Cynthia Perkins pleaded guilty to second-degree rape, producing child porn and conspiracy mingling of harmful substances Monday, according to Landry’s office. She’s due back in court Friday for sentencing.

Cynthia Perkins Other News

A school teacher in Louisiana who reportedly has admitted to lacing cupcakes with her husband’s sperm and feeding them to students now faces a sentence of 41 years in prison.

The Associated Press reports Cynthia Perkins and her now ex-husband Dennis Perkins were both arrested in October 2019 and charged with two counts of first-degree rape, 60 counts of producing porn involving a juvenile under the age of 13, and with a slew of other child sex crime charges.

Cynthia was reportedly a teacher in Livingston Parish while her husband, Dennis, was a Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy at the time of their arrest.

According to WBRZ News, Dennis was fired by the department after his initial arrest, and Cynthia resigned from her position as a teacher shortly after her arrest as well.

Initially, the former teacher pleaded innocence to her various child sex crime charges, but now has reached a plea deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to three of the charges on Monday.

Per her plea agreement, Cynthia reportedly admits she assisted her husband in sexually assaulting a juvenile, helped her husband film a juvenile bathing, and also admitted to lacing cupcakes with her then-husband’s sperm before feeding them to school children.

Cynthia will also testify against her former husband, as per the plea deal, according to Louisiana Assistant Attorney General Barry Milligan.

Cynthia reportedly filed for divorce from Dennis after they were both arrested, saying she was manipulated by him into committing the child sex crimes. Her attorneys reportedly maintain Dennis was the “mastermind” behind the couple’s criminal activity.

Prosecutors reportedly say the 68 charges Cynthia did not plead guilty to will be dismissed, but she still faces a 41-year prison sentence. A judge has set her sentencing date for Friday, according to WAFB News.

Dennis Perkins, who maintains a “not guilty” plea to his charges, reportedly has his trial set to start on May 9, 2022.
