25-year-old Adrian Rashaun Lyons of Teeter Road in Mooresville is now facing a felony first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of an infant on September 18 of last year. At that time, Iredell County Deputies were called to Lyons’ residence where C.P.R. on an infant was in progress. The child was taken to a local medical facility.

The child’s father, Adrian Lyons, said he found the infant unresponsive and called 9-1-1. The child’s mother, Calinda Steinseifer, was interviewed by Investigators, who said she was asleep when Adrian Lyons woke her up and said they needed to go to the emergency room because something was wrong with the child. Adrian Lyons told Investigators he fed the baby, then put her down to sleep. He checked on her 30 minutes later and found her limp and unresponsive.

Medical staff told Investigators the infant had brain swelling, bleeding on the brain, and hemorrhages. They described the injuries as “un-accidental brain trauma.” The infant was airlifted to Levine’s Children’s Hospital.

Investigators re-interviewed both parents. Lyons admitted running into a door and striking the infant’s head approximately two weeks prior. He said the baby would not eat, was crying a lot, and twitching. Steinseifer said she knew about the incident, but did not seek medical attention for the infant for fear of repercussions.

After further investigation, Lyons was initially charged with felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and Steinseifer was charged with felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. Yesterday (February 23), a completed autopsy report was received from the Medical Examiner, which stated that the infant’s death was caused by blunt force trauma from assault. Based on that report, Lyons’ charges were upgraded to felony first-degree murder.

Lyons remains in the Iredell County Detention Center where he is now being held without bond. He will appear in Superior Court Monday (February 27) on the original charges with a District Court date on the murder charge set for March 15. Steinseifer has a Superior Court date scheduled for April 10.

Steven Lorenzo Sentenced To Death In Florida

Steven Lorenzo

Steven Lorenzo has been sentenced to death by the State of Florida for the murders of two men in 2003. According to court documents Steven Lorenzo and his partner Scott Schweickert would terrorise the gay community in Florida as they would drug and rob men. Two of the men Jason Galehouse and Michael Waccholtz would end up being murdered by Steven Lorenzo and Scott Schweickert. Michael Waccholtz would be found dead in his car and Jason Galehouse was dismembered and his body was never found.

Scott Schweickert would plead guilty to the double murder back in 2016 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Both Steven Lorenzo and Scott Schweickert were already serving a 200 year Federal sentence for drug related crimes. Steven Lorenzo who served as his own attorney asked for the death penalty and in the end that is what he received.

A man charged in a 2003 double murder that gripped Tampa’s LGBTQ community has been sentenced to death at his request.

Hillsborough Circuit Judge Christopher Sabella recently accepted a guilty plea from Steven Lorenzo, who said he wanted to plead guilty and be sentenced to death.

The death sentence was announced Friday morning.

Lorenzo long denied killing Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz inside of his Seminole Heights home in 2003.

Lorenzo told the judge he wanted to change his plea because he believed the end result would be the same, regardless of a trial.

Lorenzo represented himself and declined to have an appointed attorney.

Steven Lorenzo Other News

A 64-year-old admitted double murderer who insisted upon receiving the death penalty in Florida bizarrely thanked his trial judge for the capital sentence Friday and asserted this his “soul is fine.”

Steven Lorenzo had already confessed in December to murdering Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz, both 26, in 2003. Prosecutors said that Lorenzo drugged, sexually assaulted, and murdered the victims after encountering them at a gay club on separate nights in West Tampa. Because Lorenzo is already serving a 200-year federal sentence for drugging and raping 9 men, including Galehouse and Wachholtz, and because Lorenzo has already pleaded guilty to murder, there was never any doubt that he would spend the rest of his days in prison.

But Lorenzo, who represented himself in the penalty phase, was adamant that he should be put to death for his crimes. Judge Christopher Sabella ultimately decided Friday that the capital punishment requested by the defendant was what justice demanded, too. Then Lorenzo said, “Thank you.”

“I’m seeking the death penalty. It’s in my best interest, basically, because it’s a comfort,” said the aspiring death row inmate. “I’ll be living a lot more comfortable that I would living in the federal system — living on death row, believe it or not,” Lorenzo said. “At my age, I want to be comfortable. I want my privacy. That’s what I want.”

“So I’m asking you to give me the death sentence,” Lorenzo continued, “because that will be more comfortable for me to live out my lifetime.”

“I know that I can be on death row for about 10 to 15 years, which I think is crazy,” he said. “But as far as I see it, it’s just euthanasia. I already have a death sentence. Everyone in this room has a death sentence.”

Lorenzo explained that he has “better things to do with [his] time.” The sooner he sped up his death, the condemned man said, the sooner he would be able to “get [himself] a new body and come back again.”

“We are eternal beings,” said Lorenzo.

The judge responded by clarifying that he would not take into account what Lorenzo wanted when issuing the sentence.

“I sentence you, Mr. Lorenzo, to death. That is the punishment that you deserve for these horrific crimes,” the judge said.

“Thank you,” Lorenzo could be heard saying.

“May God have mercy on your soul,” the judge said in closing.

“My soul is fine, thank you, sir,” Lorenzo replied.

As Law&Crime noted at the outset of the proceedings, Lorenzo’s co-defendant Scott Schweickert pleaded guilty in 2016 to the 2003 murders and received a 40-year federal sentence in 2007 in connection with Wachholtz’s death. He also implicated Lorenzo in the murders.

More recently, as Judge Sabella noted at sentencing, the mothers of Jason Galehouse and Michael Wachholtz appeared in court and made heart-wrenching victim impact statements.

“An eye for an eye,” said Ruth Wachholtz. “It would be nice if we could have old-time justice. Hanging. Heaven wants the gallows being built. Firing squad. Not blindfolded. Guillotine. Again, not blindfolded. What he did to my son before murdering him should be done to him.”

“You are the scumbag of the earth,” added Pam Williams, Galehouse’s mom.

“I don’t have a grave,” Williams said. “I don’t have a tombstone. All I’ve got is ground-up hamburger meat in the ground because of you, you scumbag.”

Both mothers called for Lorenzo’s death.

Judge Sabella has had no shortage of gruesome cases before him in recent months. Law&Crime Network trial watchers will remember him as the presiding judge in the cases of Matthew Terry and Trevor Summers.

Mauricio Torres Gets Life For Murder Of 6 Year Old

Mauricio Torres

Mauricio Torres is a man from Arkansas who was convicted in the brutal murder of his six year old son. According to police reports Mauricio Torres would sexually assault and murder the six year old boy during a camping trip. The beating was so horrific the boy would die the next day in the hospital. Mauricio Torres would finally be convicted on his third trial as the first ended in a hung jury and the second was declared a mistrial. For some reason the jury did not want to recommend the death penalty so Mauricio Torres was sentenced to life in prison with no chances at parole.

Mauricio Torres More News

A Benton County jury has sentenced Mauricio Torres to life in prison without the possibility of parole after he was found guilty of killing his six-year-old son for the third time.

He was convicted after prosecutors argued his son died after Mauricio had abused the boy during a camping trip to the point he died a day later at an Arkansas hospital.

Torres was found guilty in two previous trials. The first was turned over on appeal, and the second was declared a mistrial after an outburst from a family member during the sentencing phase.

Torres’s wife, Cathy, who is serving life in prison for six-year-old Isaiah’s death after taking a plea deal, testified before Torres in the trials, stating she never knew the extent of her son’s injuries.

“I believe and still believe Mauricio Torres still deserves the death penalty for the abuse, torture and the murder of his son. Ultimately, that is up to the jury. I am disappointed in their verdict but it is their verdict,” Benton County Prosecutor Nathan Smith said.

Torres’s attorney Jeff Rosenzweig said he was gratified for the jury’s decision to sentence his client to life in prison. “We are very gratified by the jury’s decision. We know they worked hard in coming to their conclusion. We worked hard, the prosecutors worked hard. We are just very gratified it came out this way.”

Charges:

  • Guilty of battery in the 1st degree
  • Guilty of capital murder

Warning: Details in this article reference graphic descriptions of child abuse. Please continue reading with caution.

According to the initial investigation, Mauricio used a stick to sexually abuse his son Isaiah while the family was camping in Missouri.

Other acts of child abuse the prosecution touched on were Isaiah’s teeth being pulled out with pliers, bathed in bleach, being beaten with a stick, and having a stick shoved up his rectum more than once— which is the final instance which caused the internal injuries that caused Isaiah’s death.

In 2016, Mauricio was sentenced to death. However, the ruling was turned over on appeal due to jurisdiction.

Torres was found guilty a second time in March 2020, but during the sentencing, his adult stepson lunged at Torres after he was questioned about if he, too, was sexually abused by his stepfather. The circuit court ordered a mistrial.

His third and final trial began on Feb. 9, 2023. The trial lasted a week, with closing arguments ending around 11 a.m. on Feb. 16.

keith moses

Keith Moses is a nineteen year old man from Florida who allegedly murdered journalist Dylan Lyons and 2 more including a nine year old girl. According to police reports Keith Moses would shoot and kill a 20 year old woman. Later he would shoot two employees of Spectrum News 13 killing reporter Dylan Lyons. Keith Moses would then head to a nearby home where he would shoot two more people killing a nine year old girl.

Keith Moses who has a very lengthy criminal record would be arrested shortly after and has been charged with the first murder and more charges are pending. Police have said that Keith Moses and the first woman were acquainted however there was no connection with the other victims.

Keith Moses More News

A suspect was taken into custody after an Orlando TV journalist and a 9-year-old were killed, and two others were shot in Pine Hills, Florida, Wednesday afternoon.

According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, deputies received reports of two shootings around 4:05 p.m.

One of the shootings happened on Hialeah Street where deputies had been investigating a separate homicide earlier in the day. A woman in her 20s was shot and killed there at about 11 a.m.

At that scene, deputies found the two Spectrum News 13 employees shot. One of them died and the other is in critical condition.

“It is unclear if [the suspect] knew if they were news media or not,” Mina said. “We’re still trying to work all of that out. That vehicle was almost exactly in the same spot as the vehicle from the homicide this morning. So it’s unclear why exactly they were targeted.”

Deputies say after shooting the news crew, the suspect then went to a home on Harrington Street and shot a 9-year-old girl who later died. Her mother was also shot and she is in critical condition.

Sheriff Mina says the suspect was an acquaintance of the woman who was killed this morning. But as far as they know, he had no connection to the mother or the 9-year-old.

Keith Moses, 19, is believed to have been the gunman involved in all of the shootings, including the killing from earlier in the day.

Mina said Moses has a lengthy criminal history, including aggravated battery, assault and grand theft.

Sister station WESH took a deeper look at his criminal past, but only found misdemeanor drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia charges from November of 2021.

All of those charges were dropped by the State Attorney’s Office, which deemed the case not suitable for prosecution.

Keith Moses is formally charged in the murder of the woman found dead in Pine Hills Wednesday morning.

And because he is also the suspect in four additional shootings, two of which resulted in the deaths of a news journalist and 9-year-old, law enforcement expects additional charges at any moment.

It’s unclear why he shot at any of the victims.

“I want to acknowledge what a horrible day this has been for our community and media partners,” Mina said.

WESH reporter Senait Gebregiorgis says she and her photographer left moments before the shooting, saying “we got a gut feeling,” and decided to leave for their safety.

WESH spoke to an Orlando faith leader who has been serving the Pine Hills community for more than a decade.

Bishop Kelvin L. Cobaris says the number one thing that happens after violence is fear increases.

“Protect your families, by any means necessary. Keep yourself safe, watch your surroundings. And when you know about things that have happened in this community. This should be enough to let you know that you need to say something about what you see,” Cobaris said.

He adds it’s going to take all of us to minimize the violence and reduce crime in our community.

Charter Communications, the parent company of Spectrum News, released the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and the other lives senselessly taken today. Our thoughts are with our employee’s family, friends and co-workers during this very difficult time. We remain hopeful that our other colleague who was injured makes a full recovery. This is a terrible tragedy for the Orlando community.”
