Jerry Harris, a former star of the Netflix series “Cheer,” appeared in federal court in Chicago Thursday afternoon where he pleaded guilty to one count each of receiving child pornography and engaging in sexual acts with a minor. In December of 2020, Harris was charged with a seven-count indictment that was filed in US District Court in northern Illinois. In a plea agreement with the government, Harris pleaded guilty on Thursday to two of the charges from that indictment stating that he received child pornography and engaged in interstate travel to meet a 15-year-old boy with whom he engaged in sexual relations.

In laying out the charges in which Harris agreed to plead guilty, Assistant State’s Attorney Kelly Guzman said Thursday that beginning around July of 2020, Harris “knowingly received and intended to receive child pornography” by electronic means including by computer.

Harris was one of the stars of “Cheer,” a docuseries that debuted on Netflix in January 2020.

Netflix had no comment when reached by CNN.Guzman said that Harris communicated with at least one minor via Snapchat and “other online messaging applications.” Guzman said that Harris repeatedly asked the minor to take sexually explicit photographs and videos of himself and send them to Harris in exchange for around $2000.

Guzman said that on May 2, 2019, Harris traveled from Dallas, Texas to Orlando, Florida where he met a 15-year-old boy. Guzman stated that Harris met the minor in a public bathroom where Harris sexually assaulted him.In laying out the charges and sentencing guidelines, U.S. District Judge Manish Shah said that Harris could face a maximum of 30 years in prison on one of the charges.

Shah set a sentencing hearing for June 28. Harris will remain in federal custody in Chicago until sentencing. The remaining charges of the indictment that Harris did not plead guilty to will be dropped after sentencing, according to Judge Shah.

According to police reports Terry Turner had woken up in the middle of the night and saw a car in his driveway. Terry Turner would run and grab a gun then run outside. The driver of the car, Adil Dghoughi, allegedly began to reverse quickly out of the driveway. Terry Turner would run and bang on the driver’s window before opening fire killing Adil Dghoughi. Terry Turner has been formally charged with murder for “intentionally and knowingly caused the death of an individual, namely, Adil Dghoughi, by shooting [him] with a firearm,”

A man has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the death of an Austin man who was shot and killed while parked outside a Martindale home in October 2021.

Caldwell County District Attorney Fred Weber confirmed to KXAN a grand jury met Wednesday morning and issued the indictment against Terry Turner, 65.

Turner turned himself in Oct. 22 following the death of Adil Dghoughi, 31. Dghoughi died from his injuries after being shot in the early morning hours of Oct. 11. Turner bonded out of jail the same day he turned himself in to authorities.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office told KXAN as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Turner was not in custody.

Court documents stated Turner told law enforcement he woke up in the middle of the night and saw a strange car in his driveway. That’s when Turner, according to the affidavit, ran to get his gun.

Court documents said Turner stated he chased after the car with the gun as it was reversing out of his driveway, and he shot through the driver’s side window. Turner claimed the driver, Dghoughi, pulled a gun on him as well. However, law enforcement didn’t find a gun inside the car, an Audi.

KXAN obtained Turner’s indictment, which said he “intentionally and knowingly caused the death of an individual, namely, Adil Dghoughi, by shooting [him] with a firearm.”

Dghoughi is a Moroccan national with a master’s degree. After he died, his body was taken home to Morocco. The Dghoughi family attorney told KXAN his mother traveled to Texas from Morocco to follow the investigation and pursue justice alongside Dghoughi’s brother.

The family attorney released statements on behalf of Dghoughi’s mother and brother, saying they are both “overcome with emotion over the news of the indictment.”

Dghoughi’s mother, Fatiha Haouass, said she pleaded with the district attorney to bring justice for Dghoughi by bringing an indictment against Turner.

“Today the District Attorney stood up against those who think this murder was justified and showed me and the world the honorable person he is,” Haouass continued in her statement. “I will travel home to Morocco with new trust and hope in my heart that the American system will hold Terry Turner accountable.”

Dghoughi’s brother, Othmane Dghoughi, said in his statement his brother’s life was taken “like he was nothing,” and he was “executed” by Turner.

“There are no words to describe how hard it has been,” Othmane continued in his statement. “In my darkest moments, I cried because how could I face my brother’s grave if I allowed his life to be disrespected and diminished by law enforcement who believed Turner’s lies? Now, I will take my mom home to Morocco and I can visit my brother’s grave to tell him that we are one step closer to getting justice.”

Turner’s first court appearance should be in 30 to 45 days, Weber said.

Bruce McArthur Toronto Serial Killer

bruce mcarthur serial killer

Bruce McArthur is a Canadian serial killer who operated in the Toronto Ontario area from 2010 to 2017. The Toronto Police Department took a pretty big hit from newspapers as many believed he could have been stopped much earlier but because of the bias against the gay community there concerns were not taken seriously. In this article on My Crime Library we are going to take a closer look at serial killer Bruce McArthur.

Bruce McArthur Early Life

Bruce McArthur was born Thomas Donald Bruce McArthur in Lindsay Ontario on October 8, 1951. McArthur grew up on a farm where his parents would take in troubled kids from Toronto. McArthur who attended school in a one room schoolhouse was described by fellow students as a teacher’s pet. Bruce McArthur would later express his true sexual identity would start to appear but he kept it hidden due to society views of homosexuality at the time. Bruce McArthur would marry Janice Campbell when they were both 23

Bruce McArthur would work at a major department store in downtown Toronto that was slowly becoming a gay village. McArthur parents would die in 1978 and in 1981

Bruce McArthur and his wife would buy a home in Oshawa where they would have two children. The marriage would end in 1997 and Bruce McArthur would move back to Toronto as there was more of a gay community.

Bruce McArthur Crimes

In 2001 Bruce McArthur would physically assault another man inside of the man’s apartment. Bruce McArthur would turn himself over to police and told officers he was not sure of why he attacked the man. McArthur would be convicted of assault and sentenced to two years less a day ( In Canada two years less a day is a provincial sentence whereas anything two years and over is a Federal sentence – for my US Friends think State and Federal). However McArthur would serve the sentence at home under house arrest for the first year. In 2014 Bruce McArthur would have his record expunged.

Bruce McArthur More News

Bruce McArthur is unlikely to harm another person from behind the bars of his tiny cell in Millhaven. Ever.

The rotund landscaping ghoul and former travelling sock salesman is reportedly in failing health and death may come sooner than later.

But the convicted serial killer whose murderous jag came to an abrupt end in a Toronto courtroom a hair more than a year ago left a slew of loose ends.

For starters, no one believes McArthur, 68, started killing gay men when he was 56-years-old. A mountain of evidence says this is nearly impossible.

Pinning more murders on the corpulent killer, that’s another matter.

“Other than if you believe he’s responsible for the gay strip murders in the 1970s… and many people do… there’s this huge gap in his life from the late 1970s to when he came out of the closet in the early 1990s,” said cold case expert Michael Arntfield, a professor at Western University.

“You have to remember, he was doing his killing carefully, successfully. That didn’t happen over night.”

But Arntfield added that tying other homicides to McArthur may be akin to “finding a needle in a haystack.” An unenviable job for cops.

“If there’s no body, there’s no crime scene,” he said.

The only hope to bring closure to families whose loved ones have been missing or whose cases have gone unsolved for decades is if it turns out McArthur was involved and that he “does a Samuel Little” and starts talking. Maybe for his conscience. Maybe for his family.

Samuel Little is the elderly American serial killer who met a Texas Ranger he liked last year and started talking. And talking. And talking.

So far, he has copped to 93 murders of women across the U.S. with such detail, his drawings of the victims have helped cops identify the dead. He is the worst serial killer in American history.

“That’s 93 confessions on murders that never would have been solved unless he provided the dates and locations … Police would have had no ability to tie them all together without his cooperation,” Arntfield said.

In McArthur’s stomping grounds where he peddled socks for years, just two men fit the bill, including a confirmed homicide victim.

On Oct. 21, 1989, a man’s body was found in an isolated area near Napanee in eastern Ontario, north of Hwy. 401.

The South Asian victim had been gagged and his hands were bound. He had been strangled to death.

He was between 35 and 55-years-old with a  slight build.

All Bruce McArthur markers.

In a bitter twist, the victim wore and “evil eye” pendant on a gold chain around his neck. It failed spectacularly in warding off evil.

A second possibility is the mysterious death of Ottawa-area teen Shafiq Vikram who vanished in 1994. His body wasn’t discovered until 2016

Arntfield remains skeptical whether the Napanee murder or other potential McArthur homicides will ever be solved, saying “there’s not a lot to go on.”

Dennis Rader More News

Dennis Rader appeared as an ordinary family man in Wichita, Kansas, who collected stamps and served as the president of his church.

But the seeming doting father and trusted Cub Scout leader was also a murderer who terrorized residents for decades using the moniker BTK – bind, torture, kill.

In 2005, Rader, now 76, pled guilty to killing 10 people from 1974 to 1991. And for over a decade, Rader corresponded with Dr. Katherine Ramsland, a professor of forensic psychology, to better understand how lust, as well as a desire for fame and power, drove him to kill. Now, she’s sharing her story.

Ramsland is speaking out in a new true-crime docuseries on A&E titled “BTK: Confession of a Serial Killer.” The two-night special from executive producer Dick Wolf of the “Law & Order” franchise features never-before-heard conversations between Rader and Ramsland as they discuss his past and gruesome crimes.

“When I first wrote to him, he appreciated the fact that I had academic credentials and that I was also an expert on serial killers because I had done a lot of writing on them prior to talking with him,” Ramsland told Fox News. “But he had a test for me. He wanted me to solve some codes that he sent me.

“He wanted to make sure I wouldn’t just dismiss it. But for practical purposes, he wanted to use codes to disguise what we were talking about when we got into very dark, raw subjects. And I was willing to do that. That was a good signal to him that I would work with him in the way he wanted.”

Ramsland first corresponded with Rader in 2010. They exchanged numerous letters, spoke on the phone and even met face-to-face at El Dorado Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison in Kansas. In 2016, Ramsland wrote the book “Confession of a Serial Killer: The Untold Story of Dennis Rader, the BTK Killer” under an agreement that proceeds from its sale would go to the victims’ families trust fund.

“My initial impression of Dennis Rader was that he wanted to challenge me,” Ramsland said. “And what surprised me was the fact that there wasn’t anything in his background that would correspond with the typical formula we have of serial killers. I recently heard a detective say that all serial killers have trauma in their background. He was wrong about that.”

“Dennis Rader challenges the idea we have about serial killers,” she added. “He was a family man. He was a churchgoer, even a president of his church congregation. He had a full-time job. He was part of his community. So we have to be careful about some of the stereotypes we form about these kinds of offenders.

“Otherwise, we’ll start thinking we know them when we don’t. And in Dennis’ case, there wasn’t any particular reason in his background. No trauma. He was an all-American boy, the oldest of four boys in his family. He had an intact family and played on his farm. So where did it all come from? That intrigued me.”

Rader joined the Air Force and married Paula Dietz in 1971. Every Sunday, he and his spouse went to church. The couple shares two children, a boy and a girl. Rader’s father, who died in 1996 after retiring as a plant operator at a utility company’s generating station, was described by childhood pals as strict but never cruel, the New York Times reported.

Rader struck as the BTK for the first time in 1974. Four members of the Otero family — Joseph, 38, wife Julie, 34, and two of their children — Josephine, 11, and Joseph II, 9 — were bound and strangled inside their homes. The slain matriarch had worked on an assembly line for the Coleman Company, the same place Rader worked in the early ‘70s.

Rader taunted the media and police with cryptic messages during a cat-and-mouse game that began after the murders. He signed the letters “BTK.”

That same year, 21-year-old Kathryn Bright, who also worked at the Coleman plant, was found stabbed in her home. She was bound with a cord and partially dressed. Her brother was shot but survived.

Rader returned to his seemingly normal life until 1977. Shirley Vian, 24, was found on her bed with a plastic bag over her head and a cord wrapped around her neck, hands and feet. That same year, 25-year-old Nancy Fox was strangled with nylon stockings in her home.

Rader hid in plain sight as he helped raise his family. Then in 1985, 53-year-old Marine Hedge was found strangled alongside a dirt road. The next year, 28-year-old Vicki Wegerle was found strangled in her bed.

Rader returned to a low-profile life once more as he became heavily involved in his church community. That changed in 1991 when he abducted 62-year-old Dolores Davis, his final victim, from her home. She was found strangled and bound under a bridge.

Ramsland said that growing up, Rader was “humiliated by his mother” which stayed with him over the years.

“That really played on him,” she explained. “It’s something he still thinks about, even to this day. And we haven’t studied humiliation as a factor in the development of extreme offenders much. And I think maybe we need to rethink that. And he certainly got an early exposure to using ropes for an erotic activity.

“And then he began to read these true detective magazines that his father would hide in the car. So that made him clandestine … He wanted to feel significant. And he wanted to have power over women because females made him feel off balance.”

“He didn’t like that as the oldest boy, he was expected to be strong and masculine, and yet they seem to kneecap him right and left without even trying, just by being female,” she shared. “And his fantasy life certainly propelled him.”

Rader resurfaced in 2004 with more chilling, taunting letters. The break in the case came in 2005 after a computer disk Rader sent was traced to his church. His chilling courtroom confession ended a mystery that haunted Wichita for decades. He was sentenced to 10 consecutive life terms in prison.

“During that courtroom hearing, Dennis felt like he was in a position to teach people about who he was,” said Ramsland. “In a way, he also thought of himself as a victim. He thought he had some things in common with the victims … Rader is a narcissist, so he just thought this was a way to present himself.”

When asked if Rader saw himself as a monster, Ramsland said, “At times.”

“Dennis Rader does think of himself as a monster, but he also thinks of himself as a good person who did some bad things,” she explained. “He will talk about a monster in his brain. It’s his ‘Factor X,’ which is a way to distance himself from criminal responsibility. He thinks, for the most part, he’s not a monster. He certainly was in those instances when he selected a victim and carried through with his crimes. But overall, he doesn’t think of himself that way.”

A Missouri man who maintains he was wrongly convicted of murdering his mother more than 20 years ago has been granted parole, his attorneys said Tuesday evening. Michael Politte, now 37, was convicted of second-degree murder in 2002, four years after he found Rita Politte’s body burning on the floor of their Hopewell home in eastern Missouri, his lawyers have said. He was 14 when she died. Politte and his sisters maintained he is innocent. Now that he has been granted parole, he will be released April 23 from the Jefferson City Correctional Center. “But this is not the end. Justice for the Politte family demands Mike’s exoneration and we will continue to litigate in court to overturn his conviction,” his lawyers with the MacArthur Justice Center, the Midwest Innocence Project and Langdon & Emison said in a statement. “His release on parole means he can now continue this fight from home with his sisters.”

In court filings, Politte’s attorneys argued he was convicted based in part on discredited fire investigation techniques and an incompetent new public defender at trial. The jurors who convicted Politte have raised concerns about their decision in recent years. Two believe he is innocent and should be freed to correct “this wrong,” while others have said he deserves a new trial based on evidence they never heard. One of the jurors, Linda Dickerson-Bell, of Bonne Terre, in an affidavit said she learned through an MTV documentary series, which featured Politte’s case, that there was not gasoline on his shoes. She called that evidence the “nail in the coffin” for her at trial. “After learning about the new evidence, my guilt has only grown,” she wrote. “I now firmly believe … that we made a terrible mistake.

Attorneys for Michael Politte, who was convicted at the age of 14 for killing his mother, say their efforts to clear his name will continue after his release on parole in April after serving more than 23 years in prison.

Politte’s mother Rita was burned to death inside their mobile home in Hopewell, Missouri on December 5, 1998. After spending roughly four years in juvenile detention, he was tried as an adult and convicted of second-degree murder in 2002, and sentenced to life in prison.

His attorneys announced Wednesday that Politte was granted parole, effective April 23. The Missouri Department of Corrections has not yet confirmed that decision.

“This is not the end. Justice for the Politte family demands Mike’s exoneration and we will continue to litigate in court to overturn his conviction. His release on parole means he can now continue this fight at home with his sisters. We look forward to the Court hearing his case and finally giving him his day in court,” a joint statement from his lawyers from the MacArthur Justice Center, The Midwest Innocence Project and Langdon & Emison said.

Last August, his attorneys filed a petition with the Missouri Court of Appeals to reconsider the case, and in October, asked the Missouri Supreme Court to free him, citing what it says was a conviction based on debunked science and a biased investigation.
