John Totherow Murders Mother In South Carolina

John Totherow was a fourteen year old teen killer from South Carolina when he would murder his mother

According to court documents police were called to a home in York County South Carolina where they believed an armed intruder was barricaded in the home. Soon police would realize the armed suspect was a fourteen year old boy. When police finally entered the home they would discover the body of Alethea Lisa Puckett Totherow who had been shot multiple times and her son John would be taken into custody

Prosecutors were attempting to get the fourteen year old moved to adult court where he would have faced a life sentence if convicted of the murder however the father of John Totherow did not want this scenario for his son. John would plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and would be sentenced to twenty eight years in prison

A 16-year-old charged with killing his mother in York County last year accepted a plea deal before a judge sentenced him.

The Sutton Springs Road incident shut down the area for hours with the SWAT team responding. At that time, police believed an armed intruder was inside the home.

Hours later, police arrested John Totherow, who was 14 years old at the time of the murder. Prosecutors said this was a difficult case given the age of the defendant and the victim being his mother.

The state tried him as an adult when the teen accepted the plea deal, but the teen’s father didn’t want his son to serve life in prison

“His father is understandably in a position that none of us would ever want to be in,” Whitney Payne, the senior solicitor for the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, said.

Kenny Totherow told the court he’s in a difficult place today because he would likely never see his son again. He recounted hugging and kissing his wife, Alethea Lisa Puckett Totherow, and his son John before leaving for work that morning.

He checked in with his wife around lunch and said he would see her later.

“Little did I know that all hell would break loose in my home,” Kenny Totherow said.

Prosecutors said John Totherow shot and killed his mother at their Sutton Springs Road home. An autopsy report showed Lisa Totherow had 12 gunshot wounds and six projectiles were recovered from her body.

Despite what happened, Kenny Totherow said he still loves his son.

“I’m sure everybody in this room looks at me and says, ‘How could you still love your son?’ Very simply, my son was a gift from God above,” said Totherow.

John Totherow, now 16, was originally charged with murder, but the solicitor’s office reduced that to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime after a plea agreement.

“Your honor we had to balance in the case the interest of protecting the public and the interest of justice, with the fact we were looking at a 14-year-old,” Payne said.

The solicitor told the judge the juvenile system was not adequate in this case because the defendant would have been released within three to five years, so he was tried as an adult when he accepted the plea deal.

“In weighing all of this, it’s murder. I mean that’s what it is,” Nathan Sheldon, attorney for John Totherow, said. “So the benefit of being able to plea to manslaughter is a benefit that we are saving hopefully years of this young man’s life.”

It’s a wish the father had as prosecutors tried the case.

“I’m probably not going to ever see him on the outside again,” Kenny Totherow said. “I’m never going be able to go to a ballgame with a grand youngin.”

As the father finished his remarks in court, he asked the judge to hug his son one last time.

“I will not give up on him. Everybody else in this room may give up on him with the exception of a few people that’s sitting here with me today, but I won’t give up on him,” Kenny Totherow said.

The judge agreed on the plea agreement with John Totherow facing 28 years in prison and required to serve 85% of that sentence. Totherow’s attorney said he will likely only serve 24 years.

Billy Chemirmir Serial Killer Murdered In Prison

Billy Chemirmir

Billy Chemirmir who was a suspected serial killer from Texas was the victim of a prison murder

According to court documents Billy Chemirmir was convicted of two murders however was suspected of murdering twenty two elderly women in the Dallas area who lived in Senior Living Housing. Billy would break into the residence where he would smother the elderly women. Finally a 91 year old woman would call 911 after escaping from the serial killer which would eventually lead to his arrest where he was charged with dozens of crimes including twenty two counts of murder

Eventually Billy Chemirmir would be convicted of two murders and was serving two life sentences without parole at the Coffield Unit in Tennessee Colony near Palestine. Prison officials have not released a ton of details other than Billy was found dead in his cell and his cellmate was the main suspect in the murder

Billy Chemirmir News

Billy Chemirmir, a man convicted of killing two people and accused in the deaths of nearly two dozen others, was found dead in his cell in a Texas state prison early Tuesday morning, NBC 5 has learned.

Charged with killing 22 North Texas women over a two-year span, Chemirmir was found guilty of capital murder in October 2022 in the death of 87-year-old Mary Brooks. His first trial, for the murder of Lu Thi Harris, ended in a mistrial. Chemirmir was later convicted of the murder charge.

Chemirmir, 50, had been serving two prison sentences of life without parole in the Coffield Unit in Tennessee Colony near Palestine.

Officials with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said Chemirmir was found deceased in his cell early Tuesday. The TDCJ said Chemirmir’s cellmate, who is serving a sentence for murder out of Dallas County, was identified as the assailant.

No further details about Chemirmir’s death have been confirmed and the TDCJ said the Office of Inspector General is investigating Chemirmir’s death.

The families of Chemirmir’s victims were notified of his death early Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, some of the family members of Chemirmir’s victims said they were relieved to learn of his death.

“My mother died in fear. This man did not have a peaceful passing. There’s some relief in feeling that he didn’t get off easily,” said Shannon Dion, whose 92-year-old mother, Doris Gleason, was among those Chemirmir was charged with killing.

Chemirmir was caught after a 91-year-old woman survived a 2018 attack and told police a man had forced his way into her apartment at an independent living community for seniors, tried to smother her with a pillow and took her jewelry.

Police said they found Chemirmir the following day in the parking lot of his apartment complex holding jewelry and cash, having just thrown away a large red jewelry box. Documents in the jewelry box led them to the home of Harris who was found dead in her bedroom.

Prosecutors said the suspected serial killer targeted people inside their homes or at senior independent living centers, smothering them with pillows to steal jewelry.

Most of the deaths were initially ruled natural causes, despite families reporting odd circumstances and stolen jewelry. It wasn’t until a woman survived an attack on her life, leading police to Chemirmir that the cases were reopened and indictments were filed.

Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot planned to secure two convictions before dismissing the remaining cases. Earlier this summer Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said he did not plan to try the nine capital murder indictments his office had against Chemirmir.

Billy Chemirmir was the subject of an NBC 5 streaming series, “Stranger at the Door,” that looked into the dozens of deaths attributed to Billy Chemirmir. The series can be watched online here or on TV following the instructions below.

Mason Sisk More News

An Alabama teenager was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his parents and three younger siblings as a judge said the crime was “draped in unmitigated evil.”

Mason Sisk, who was just 14 when he shot each of his family members through the head, was unmoved by the sentencing in Limestone County, reported WHNT.

Sisk did not face the death penalty because of his age at the time he committed the crime in September 2019.

Handing down the sentence of life without parole, Limestone County Circuit Judge Chad Wise said that Sisk’s crime was “ghastly, disturbing, and draped in unmitigated evil” and deserved the utmost punishment.

A jury in the case deliberated for only two hours before finding 18-year-old Sisk guilty of the murder of his father John Sisk, 38, adoptive mother Mary Sisk, 35, and half-siblings Kane, six, Rorrie, four, and Colson, six months.

“I’ve prosecuted a lot of people in my career, and I can tell you that out of all of those people, only four out of five people scare the hell out of me and he’s at the top of my list.” Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones said in a statement.

“Mason Sisk is clearly one of the most dangerous people who will ever be sentenced in Limestone County. With this sentence today, Judge Wise has ensured that Mason Sisk will NEVER threaten another child’s safety and wellbeing.”

Prosecutors said that Sisk stole the murder weapon from a family friend and then confessed the crime to his then-girlfriend.

He also claimed he wanted to become a contract killer after bragging that he killed his family in four seconds.

Sisk explained his motivation for the murder to investigators in a taped conversation obtained by The Associated Press.

“Yeah, they argue a lot, and I got fed up with it,” Sisk told authorities, according to the news organisation. “And the kids were going through a lot.”

Authorities also stated that Sisk had previously tried to fatally poison his stepmother by putting peanut butter in her coffee, which she was severely allergic to.

Erica Lawson Faces Death Penalty In Kentucky

Erica Lawson kentucky

Erica Lawson is a twenty one year old woman from Kentucky who has been charged with the murder of her seventeen month old daughter Elena Hembree and now prosecutors have announced they are seeking the death penalty in this horrific case

According to police reports seventeen month old Elena Hembree was found unresponsive after the little girl was sexually assaulted and badly beaten. Unfortunately the infant would die days later in the hospital.

Police in Kentucky have announced they are using DNA to determine who else may have had a role in Elena Hembree death.

Erica Lawson faces a host of charges including murder, failure to report child abuse, first-degree criminal abuse, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Apparently the little girl’s uncle went to the police before Elena Hembree died saying that he saw bruises and burns on his niece. However police were unable to locate Erica Lawson or Elena Hembree. Time they found her it was too late

Kentucky prosecutors filed noticed Tuesday they plan to seek the death penalty against a young Bell County woman accused of murdering her 17-month-old daughter.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Lisa Fugate filed notice Tuesday in Bell County Circuit Court that she would seek to prove aggravating circumstances in the death of Elena Hembree that merit a possible death sentence for Erica Lawson.

In this case, the top prosecutor alleges, the victim’s status as a child and the fact that the killing was deliberate merit consideration of the death penalty.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon they’d filed notice in the Bell County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office to pursue death.

Fugate had suggested earlier this summer that her office might seek to execute Lawson, 21, if she’s found guilty of murder.

The indictment alleges Lawson failed to help Elena when she was unable to breathe. It also accuses Lawson of abusing her and leaving bruises, as well as using drugs while she was supposed to be caring for the child.

Lawson was indicted last month in Bell County for murder, failure to report child abuse, first-degree criminal abuse, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Authorities said Elena suffered severe injuries in late July and was taken to Middlesboro ARH Hospital. Due to the extent of her injuries, she was flown to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Elena died July 30.

Authorities said the toddler, 17-month-old Elena Hembree, died in the hospital from her injuries after she was sexually assaulted. Authorities said she was severely injured and was taken to the Middlesboro ARH Hospital on Friday, July 28. Due to the extent of her injuries, she was flown to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Elena died on July 30.

“In my time with the commonwealth, this is one of the most severe cases of abuse, specifically because that baby is 17 months old at that time,” Caley Ayers from the Middlesboro Police Department said.

Police arrested the mother, 21-year-old Erica Lawson, for manslaughter, criminal abuse of a child under 12, wanton endangerment, and failure to report child abuse. She waived a hearing on Aug. 8, so the case was sent directly to a Bell County Grand Jury.

The grand jury returned an indictment on Aug. 22, formally charging Erica Lawson for murder, failure to report child abuse, first-degree criminal abuse, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The indictment said Erica Lawson failed to help Elena when she was unable to breathe. It also accused Lawson of abusing her and leaving bruises, as well as using drugs while she was taking care of the child.

Lawson will stay in custody on a $1 million bond. Commonwealth Attorney Lisa Fugate said they could now push for the death penalty against Lawson. Kentucky has 26 people on death row and has only executed three people since 1976, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

On Aug. 4, the Middlesboro Police Department said they were using DNA test results to identify other suspects in the young girl’s death. Fugate said they were able to expedite six DNA samples and results are expected to return in as soon as three weeks.

Police previously said the child’s uncle went to authorities several weeks ago after suspecting that someone burned her. However, police “couldn’t find the kid and the uncle did not know where the kid was at the time.”

The Middlesboro community also mourned the death of the 17-month-old on Aug. 5, gathering to reflect on her life and to push for reforming child abuse laws.
