Jonathan Kassi has been arrested and charged in the Sextortion of Ryan Last that led to the seventeen year old from California to commit suicide. According to police reports Jonathan Kassi allegedly started contacting Ryan Last online convincing the seventeen year old that he was a teenage girl. Soon the conversations would turn intimate and Jonathan Kassi convinced Ryan Last to send him nude photos. Police in California have arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged online scam authorities said led to the suicide death of a 17-year-old boy in February.

Jonathan Kassi, 25, was arrested Thursday by Los Angeles police officers on an arrest warrant, the San Jose Police Department announced Monday.

The warrant was obtained by the San Jose Crimes Against Children Task Force, which was investigating a West African financial extortion scheme, authorities said.

Kassi was transferred from Los Angeles to Northern California and “booked for extortion and attempted disorderly conduct – posting of a photograph or recording without consent,” San Jose police said.

CNN is attempting to determine if Kassi has an attorney.

Earlier this year, CNN reported on the suicide death of Ryan Last, who police said was the target of an online scam known as “sextortion.”

Ryan’s mother, Pauline Stuart, said police determined her son was contacted online by someone purporting to be a girl, who engaged in an online conversation which quickly turned intimate in nature.

According to authorities, the online perpetrator sent Ryan a romantic picture of a young female and asked for one of him in return. Immediately after Ryan shared an intimate photo of his own, the cybercriminal demanded $5,000, threatening to make the photo public and send it to Ryan’s family and friends, investigators said. Hours later, police said, a panicked Ryan took his own life.

Although San Jose police withheld Ryan’s name as the minor victim in the case in its announcement of the arrest Monday, Stuart confirmed to CNN the arrest was in connection with her son’s death.

“I am truly disgusted that there are people that can do this to kids, but I am also grateful for all the work that law enforcement has done on this case,” she told CNN Monday evening. “They truly care what happens and have worked hard investigating. I believe that to continue to fight these type of scams we need to educate parents and kids alike.”

According to San Jose police, Kassi allegedly exploited children online through using various social media platforms.

“Detectives believe there could be additional victims due to the suspect’s criminal pattern and use of social media to target minors,” police said, urging anyone with information about the scams to call investigators. Authorities did not provide further details on potential co-conspirators.

Authorities announced the suspect’s arrest on the same day the FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued a public safety alert warning parents about the dangers of sextortion schemes.

There have been more than 7,000 reports related to online financial sextortion of minors, resulting in at least 3,000 victims, mostly boys, and more than a dozen suicides, the alert said.

“As many children enter winter break this holiday season, the FBI and our partners implore parents and caregivers to engage with their kids about financial sextortion schemes so we can prevent them in the first place,” the FBI said Monday.

A Toronto-area condo board meeting turned tragic Sunday when a gunman stormed in and killed five people before being fatally shot by police.

“Horrendous scene,” York Regional Police Chief James MacSween said of the crime, according to a report from Associated Press. “Six deceased. One of them is the subject. The other five are victims.”

Police say residents were evacuated from the building shortly after the incident and that there was no further threat to the community after one of their officers put a stop to the massacre, while residents are expected to be allowed back into their units

In addition to the six dead, MacSween said a seventh person who was shot by the suspect is being treated in the hospital and is expected to survive.

According to a report from the Toronto Star Monday, the shooter was identified as 73-year-old resident Francesco Villi. Villi was a longtime resident of the building who had for years targeted the condo board with lawsuits as part of a running dispute with board members.

According to the report, Villi used a semi-automatic handgun to carry out the shooting, but was killed at the scene “following an interaction with police,” the York Regional police said on Twitter.

“I am absolutely shocked and heartbroken that five individuals have lost their lives…and for this to happen in a community like Vaughan…is devastating,” Vaughan mayor Steven Del Duca said in front of the crime scene Monday. “It’s just horrifying and i can’t imagine what the victims families are going through right now.”

The shooting comes just a week after a similar scene unfolded in Rome, Italy, where three women were killed and others were injured after a man opened fire on their condo board meeting.

That shooting took place at a bar in the neighborhood of Fidene, where a man entered the meeting, shouting, “I’ll kill you all” before opening fire on the people in the bar.

“He came into the room, closed the door and shouted ‘I’ll kill you all’ and then started to shoot,” a witness told Italian news agency Ansa.

Four others were injured, one seriously, in the incident.

“The episode of violence that upsets our city is very serious. Three lives lost and seriously injured in a shooting during a condominium meeting,” Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said on Twitter following the shooting.

Members of the Rome condo board were able to subdue and disarm the man before police arrived, telling officers that they knew the man, and he had previously been reported for making threats against community members.

“The parents of the juvenile reported the juvenile missing to the Bailey Middle School SRO where the juvenile attends school,” the Cornelius Police Department said in a statement on Friday. “The juvenile was last seen at home, on the evening of November 23, 2022, and has not been seen since.”

The FBI and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are working with the Cornelius Police Department in the search for the missing girl.

Cojocari had been wearing “jeans, pink, purple and white Adidas shoes, and a white t-shirt and jacket” at the time of her disappearance, the FBI said.

Police said they began an investigation on Thursday after the school was notified Cojocari was missing.

Diana Cojocari, 37, and Christopher Palmiter, 60, were arrested on Saturday on the charge of Failure to Report the Disappearance of a Child to Law Enforcement, police said in two statements.

Kendra Licari Catfish Own Daughter For A Year

Kendra Licari michigan

Kendra Licari is a woman from Michigan who is not going to win Mother Of The Year after she was arrested for allegedly catfishing her teenage daughter for a year. Now nothing of this case makes sense and it seems Kendra Licari, who was also a high school basketball coach, would inform authorities that her daughter was being harassed online. Turns out Kendra Licari was using software which would hide where the texts were coming from. Now we are not talking about an occasional message but a dozen texts a day for a year. After a brief investigation Kendra Licari would be arrested and charged with stalking a minor, using a computer to commit a crime, and obstruction of justice

Kendra Licari More News

Police investigating a case of online harassment say the teen victim’s mother is responsible.

According to the police report, the high-schooler told her mom, 42-year-old Kendra Licari, she was receiving messages through text and social media up to 12 times a day for months.

“By and large it was mostly just harassing-type text messages, demeaning, demoralizing, and just mean texts,” said Isabella County prosecutor David Barberi.

Police say Licari reported the cyberbullying to authorities herself. At the time, she was working as a girls’ basketball coach at her daughter’s school.

“When the case first came into our office, it was bizarre and almost hard to believe,” Barberi said.

Investigators say Licari catfished and harassed her daughter, and her daughter’s then-boyfriend, for more than a year, starting in early 2021.

“We’re talking about several hundreds of text messages, over 1,000 pages of discovery in the case,” Barberi said.

The criminal complaint states that she used software to hide her location, and several different numbers and area codes to make it seems like the texts were coming from her daughter’s peers.

“Someone else coined the term, but they called it a version of ‘cyber Munchausen’s syndrome’ in a sense that this seems to be the type of behavior where you’re making somebody feel bad or need you in their life because of this behavior,” said Barberi.

Licari is charged with stalking a minor, using a computer to commit a crime, and obstruction of justice. She was released Monday on a $5,000 bond, and is due back in court on Dec. 29.
