A teenager was charged with murder on Tuesday after two people were killed and one was injured in a shooting at South Carolina State University, officials said.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged 18-year-old Khamanti Kennedy with murder on Tuesday, Feb. 17 for his alleged involvement in the deaths of 18-year-old Terrell Thomas and 19-year-old Henry Crittington.

Thomas and Crittington were shot and killed last week at South Carolina State University, located in Orangeburg between Columbia and Charleston.

School officials said that Crittington and Thomas were not students, but the person injured in the shooting was a student. The injured person had not been identified and their condition was unknown at the time of this writing.

Kennedy was not a student at the school, school officials said. An affidavit from Feb. 17 did not explicitly say Kennedy was the shooter, but did identify him as the only person charged with murder in this case so far.

Officials said the shooting happened at around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12 inside a room in the Hugine Suites, a student housing complex at South Carolina State University.

Kennedy drove to the university campus with three other people who had not yet been identified, according to the affidavit from South Carolina investigators. The group was seen on surveillance video going into the Hugine Suites together, officials said

The affidavit said that the group later left the student housing complex and walked toward Kennedy’s vehicle to get “items” from it. It was not made clear in the affidavit what the items were.

A short time later, Thomas and Crittington were shot to death and another person was shot and injured, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said that witnesses reported Kennedy participated in the “purchase of marijuana which led to the shooting.” More specific details about that were not released, as of Tuesday.

Kennedy was allegedly seen running away after the shooting on surveillance video, the affidavit said.

He was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

No other charges appeared to be made in this case, as of this writing.
