Jurors, who convicted a man of capital murder for the 2002 stabbing deaths of two prostitutes, continued hearing evidence Tuesday in the punishment phase of his trial
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Ray McArthur Freeney, 29, who was convicted Monday of killing Kirschalynne S. Jones, 15, and Vicky Kay Dean, 37 last spring.
Freeney’s lawyers did not claim insanity as a defense, but say their client is a diagnosed schizophrenic
Prosecutors said after stabbing at least one of the women, Freeney forced her to perform oral sex on him as she bled.
“What is the purpose of that, except humiliation,” said prosecutor Caroline Dozier. “Or perhaps excitement to have a dying woman perform for you.”
Jones was found dead on April 18, 2002, at a motel, where she shared a room with other prostitutes. Dean was found stabbed in the eye outside Freeney’s apartment four days later and she died May 1, 2002. Prosecutors said Dean was working as a prostitute to support a drug habit.
Freeney was arrested four days after Dean was found. Police caught up with him at a Houston bus stop, where prosecutors allege he was searching for another prostitute.
