A student was arrested Monday on murder charges over the shootings of two people who were found dead in a dorm room last week at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, police said.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said officers arrested Nicholas Jordan, 25, without incident on two counts of first-degree murder. Jordan, who is from Detroit, was a student at the school at the time of the shooting on Friday, Feb. 16, said university spokesperson Jenna Press.

The victims were identified as Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24, a student at the university about 69 miles south of Denver. Montgomery was not currently enrolled.

After getting an arrest warrant, the police’s motor vehicle theft unit found Jordan in a car and the tactical enforcement unit took him into custody in Colorado Springs, police announced on the social media platform X.

Friday’s shooting was an isolated incident between people who knew one another and was not a random attack on the university, police said. While the coroner’s office will determine how they died, each victim was shot at least once, police previously said.

The police department was called early Friday morning about shots fired from the university’s dormitory, Creston House, where they found the two already dead.

A campus-wide lockdown was issued for 90 minutes after the shooting, and the university remained closed for the day and through the weekend. Monday classes have been canceled while the school offers walk-in counseling.

Dozens gathered for a memorial walk Monday at the school, which is home to more than 11,000 students and nearly 2,000 faculty and staff.

It’s unknown if Jordan has an attorney who can comment on his behalf. Court records aren’t yet available in the case, and a hearing hasn’t been scheduled.

Pamela Maye is a woman from Ohio who was the foster mother of Darnell Taylor. Darnell was reported missing and police would later find the five year old’s body and now Maye has been charged with his murder

According to police reports Pamela Maye would wake up her husband and told him that Darnell Taylor had been hurt. Maye would then leave the residence with the five year old and police were notified and a search began

Darnell Taylor body would be found in a sewage drain in Columbus Ohio after Pamela Maye would tell officers where they could find his body after she was arrested yesterday

Pamela Maye has been charged with murder, first-degree felony kidnapping and third-degree felony endangering children.

Pamela Maye News

A 5-year-old missing Ohio boy has been found dead, and his foster mother has been arrested and charged with his murder, the Columbus Division of Police announced at a Friday morning press conference.

Darnell Taylor had been missing since Wednesday, and police feared for his safety after his foster mother, Pammy Maye, 48, woke her husband up in their Columbus home to tell him the boy had been hurt. She then fled the scene in a Jeep Cherokee, and a statewide Amber Alert was issued for Taylor at around 5:10 a.m.

Taylor was found dead by police in a sewage drain in the 1000 block of Marsdale Avenue, in southwest Columbus, at around 1 a.m. Friday morning after Maye told the Columbus Division of Police about his whereabouts.

Police had arrested Maye in the Cleveland suburb of Brooklyn on Thursday at around 9:40 p.m. wearing a nightgown, and she was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Her vehicle had been found in the nearby Parkview Estates apartment complex. Brooklyn is about 150 miles from Columbus.

“We have reached a pivotal point in this investigation, we have some very unfortunate news to share,” Chief Elaine R. Bryant said at the press briefing.

“This is a tragic development….this is not the outcome that we wanted but we are going to make sure that we can do everything we can to bring justice for Darnell.”

Bryant said police could not provide details about the boy’s death, given the case is now a homicide investigation.

The jeep Maye was believed to be driving was found in the parking lot of a Brooklyn, Ohio, apartment complex a few hours after the Amber Alert was issued. The vehicle was about 150 miles from the home in Columbus where the situation first began.

Maye’s husband had called 911 shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to a court document seen by WCMH, Maye’s husband told a 911 operator that she killed the child, allegedly saying the boy was no longer alive and had not been seen since Monday or Tuesday.

The document said while he was on the phone with dispatchers, Maye tried to cover her husband’s mouth while telling him she had a plan, WCMH reports.

She then fled their Columbus house during the call.

Her husband also said in the call that she suffered from bipolar disorder, a mental illness that causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration.

Pamela Maye was also charged with first-degree felony kidnapping and third-degree felony endangering children.

Pamela Maye Other News

An Ohio Amber Alert was activated statewide early Wednesday morning by the Columbus Police Department as authorities continue their search for a missing boy identified as 5-year-old Darnell Taylor — and police have confirmed the suspect’s vehicle was found near Cleveland.

Columbus police announced during a brief press conference early Friday morning that a body believed to be that of Darnell’s had been found.

“This is a tragic development and we certainly hoped for a different outcome,” said Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant.

The situation started shortly after 3 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Reeb Avenue in Columbus. Police say the caller stated that his wife — 48-year-old Pamela Maye — woke him up and made statements that made him believe Darnell, who is their foster child, had been hurt. Police report the caller also said that Maye abruptly left the residence in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee.

Columbus police gave an update on Thursday afternoon regarding the Amber Alert.

“Based on this investigation, we are going to continue to follow every lead we have,” Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said. “We will continue to do so until we have located Darnell and Pam.”

During the press conference, officials urged the residents of Northeast Ohio, specifically those in Linndale, Brooklyn, and Cleveland, to contact (614) 645-2228 if they saw a 2015 Jeep Cherokee between 5-6 a.m. on Wednesday.

Officials also urged business owners in Northeast Ohio to contact police if the vehicle stopped at their business.

Records from Franklin County Municipal Court show a warrant has been issued for Pamela Maye’s arrest on charges of kidnapping and endangering children.

At the end of the press conference, Bryant urged Pamela Maye to contact the police.

“Pammy, if you’re watching this, can you please reach out and contact us? We need to know that Darnell is safe, and we need to know if you are safe. Reach out, contact us, let us know that you are okay,” said Bryant.

Also on Thursday, officials released the full 911 call from Maye’s husband. According to his recounting of events, Maye told him that “she killed out son.”

“She just woke me up and said, ‘He’s not here no more,'” the caller claimed. “I said, ‘What did you do to him?’ She said, ‘He’s not alive,’ and then when I tried to grab the phone to call you, she started fighting me.”

The caller also told authorities that Pamela Maye suffers from depression and bipolar disorder but has been taking medicine for it. At this time, officials have given every indication that they still believe Darnell is alive.

3News reached out to the Brooklyn Police Department for an update on its search for Pamela Maye and Taylor. Acting Police Chief Lieutenant Cindy Eschweiler says while the department has no new information, they have been working with the U.S. Marshals Service.

“Unfortunately, they’re (U.S. Marshals) still working on leads,” Eschweiler added.

The Ohio Amber Alert was issued with Columbus police saying Darnell was believed to have been abducted.

A short time later, another Amber Alert blast was sent out shortly before 6 a.m. that declared “last seen near Cleveland.” Columbus police told 3News they were alerted that the suspect’s vehicle could be in the Cleveland area after receiving a Flock hit (license plate readers) on the Jeep. Columbus police later confirmed it was found in Brooklyn, Ohio, shortly before 6 a.m.

Brooklyn police impounded the vehicle.

Although the vehicle was located, police say Darnell and Maye remain missing.

Darnell is described as having black hair and brown eyes. Police say it’s believed he may be wearing Spider-Man pajamas and white boots.

Pamela Maye is described as 4’9” tall, weighs 115 pounds with brown hair and eyes. She was reportedly last seen wearing a green floral nightgown with pink shoes.

When a reporter asked Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant if it’s believed the child is still alive, she offered this response: “We have no idea what we’re dealing with right now. That’s why we’re asking for the public’s assistance. Any information you can give us, we would greatly appreciate it.”

Anybody who has information or sees the child, suspect or vehicle is asked to call 911. Columbus police also have a tip line you can call at 614-645-2228. Residents in Columbus and Brooklyn are also being asked to “search their private property for anything that appears to be missing or is out of place.”

Talia Nelson Murders Son In Florida

Talia Nelson

Talia Nelson is a woman from Florida who has been arrested for the murder of her fourteen year old son who weighed only 33 pounds at the time of his death

According to police reports Talia Nelson would phone 911 and saying that her fourteen year old son was unconscious. When officers arrived at the home they would find the body of Zayke Smith-Nelson who was obviously severely malnourished and had bed sores along the side of his body. Nelson would tell police she was cooking her son supper when the teenager passed out

Talia Nelson would later admit to police that she dropped the ball in terms of taking care of Zayke Smith-Nelson. An autopsy would later reveal that there was clear evidence that the teen had been beaten numerous times with an object due to the scarring on his body. Nelson attempted to tell police that the fourteen year old suffered from a string of medical disorders however she was unable to name a single doctor who had diagnosed Zayke

Now Talia Nelson has been charged with one count each of first-degree felony murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and aggravated child abuse

Talia Nelson News

A 43-year-old woman in Florida is accused of knowingly torturing, starving, and neglecting her 14-year-old son, who weighed only 33 pounds when he was killed. Talia Nelson was taken into custody on Friday and charged with one count each of first-degree felony murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and aggravated child abuse in the death of Zayke Smith-Nelson, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

The average weight for a 14-year-old boy is between 110 and 120 pounds, per the Center for Disease Control.

Officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department at about 8:02 p.m. on Jan. 1 responded to Nelson’s home on Carolina Lake Drive regarding a report of an unconscious juvenile, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Daytona Beach News-Journal. Upon arriving at the home, first responders made contact with Nelson, who claimed that she was cooking dinner for son when she saw that he had fallen to the floor unconscious.

Officers at the scene reportedly noted that the child “appeared to be extremely malnourished, weighing only 33 pounds” and had what appeared to be bedsores running up the side of his body. Nelson explained the boy’s emaciated appearance by telling police that Zayke was bulimic, lactose intolerant, and lived with a rare bone disease. However, Nelson could not identify the names of any doctors who had diagnosed her son with those ailments.

A search of the home reportedly revealed one of three bedrooms contained no furniture, only soiled clothing and what smelled like “stale urine,” police said. In the main bedroom, officers found laptops issued for the purpose of home-schooling that were still in the boxes and appeared to have never been opened.

An autopsy determined that Zayke was “severely malnourished” to the point that he had been losing bone density, per the report. The boy also had scars on his legs and torso that the medical examiner said was consistent with being struck by a long, flexible object. Bedsores reportedly covered the boy’s body, indicating that he likely couldn’t move much on his own and would not have been able to caused the marks on his own.

It was ultimately determined tat his manner of death was a homicide and the cause of death was abuse and neglect, Daytona Beach NBC affiliate WESH reported.

“At 33 pounds, the kid probably couldn’t even walk,” Jimmie Flynt of the Daytona Beach Police Department told the station.

In an interview with police, Talia Nelson reportedly claimed that her son would make himself vomit, so she gave him protein shakes in the hope he would start gaining weight. She also allegedly conceded that she had “dropped the ball” by failing to seek medical attention for the starving boy, particularly because he had been unable to walk on his own for several weeks. However, Nelson did note that to get around, the 14-year-old would “scoot on his butt,” per the report.

Talia Nelson reportedly told police that she did not neglect her son.

Medical records subpoenaed by authorities showed that Zayke had not seen a doctor since he was 10 years old. However, at that time, the boy was reportedly healthy, with doctors indicating that he had good vitals, was well-nourished, and showed no signs of concern regarding his growth or development.

“This is a well-nourished, well-developed patient, in no apparent distress,” the doctor who examined Zayke in 2010 reportedly wrote in the boy’s medical records.

Talia Nelson is currently being held in the Volusia County Jail without bond. Court records show that she is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on March 5.

According to police reports Kenneth Wayne DeHart was pulled over by officers for driving erratically. When DeHart refused to get out of the vehicle and would soon thereafter pull out a gun and fatally shoot Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg McCowan and injure Deputy Shelby Eggers

Kenneth Wayne DeHart News

A Tennessee man wanted in the killing of a deputy and wounding a second during a traffic stop last week was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon after a five-day manhunt, authorities said.

Kenneth Wayne DeHart, 42, was captured in Knoxville, about 17 miles from where the deadly traffic stop took place in Maryville, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on Facebook, sharing photos of law enforcement in tactical gear surrounding a home.

“Now the judicial process will take place in the court system,” the sheriff’s office said. “Thanks to all of our law enforcement partners and our community.”

DeHart is accused of fatally shooting Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg McCowan, 43, and injuring Deputy Shelby Eggers, 22, during a traffic stop in Maryville on Thursday evening.

The deputies had initiated a traffic stop on a sport utility vehicle for suspicion of erratic driving when the driver, identified as DeHart, refused to leave the vehicle, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. The deputies deployed a stun gun to no effect.

At some point, the driver produced a gun and opened fire, striking both deputies, according to the agency. At least one deputy returned fire while DeHart drove away from the scene.

McCowan, who began his full-time career at the sheriff’s office in 2020 after working as a reserve deputy, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Warrants charging DeHart with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm were issued during the manhunt for the suspect.

Multiple law enforcement agencies joined the manhunt for DeHart, who authorities described as armed and dangerous. On Saturday, the reward for information on DeHart’s whereabouts grew to $100,000.

Sheriff James Berrong said during a press briefing that no specific tip led them to DeHart’s location at the residence in Knoxville.

After a SWAT team deployed diversionary tactics outside the residence, DeHart ran out the back into the yard where law enforcement and a “large pit bull dog” took him into custody using the fallen deputy’s handcuffs, Berrong told reporters.

DeHart’s brother and a woman identified in local media as DeHart’s girlfriend were both arrested last week on charges of aiding the suspect after the deputy’s murder.

DeHart is expected to make a court appearance on Thursday.
