Jerrid Powell News

The Los Angeles Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect Saturday that they believe is connected to the string of murders involving three homeless individuals. Authorities also believe this suspect is responsible for the follow-home robbery and murder of San Dimas father Nicholas Simbolon earlier this week.

Officials arrested 33-year-old Jerrid Powell on suspicion of all four murders. He was apprehended when his vehicle was stopped by authorities.

A handgun recovered from Jerrid Powell’s vehicle following Simbolon’s murder was used in the three homeless killings, said LAPD Chief Michel Moore. Powell’s vehicle was also present at all four crime scenes, according to authorities.

On Tuesday, Simbolon, who worked as a project manager in the Los Angeles County executive office, was found by his wife inside his Tesla in the garage of the home, suffering from a gunshot to the upper body, according to witnesses and sheriff’s officials. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, surveillance video determined that Simbolon was followed home from an electric-vehicle charging station in the 200 block of South Citrus Street in West Covina. The suspect approached Simbolon in the garage, stole some unspecified items, then “senselessly” shot him, said LASD Chief Robert Luna.

Through a combination of witness interviews and photographic evidence from the night of Simbolon’s murder, authorities were able to upload Powell’s license plate number into their law enforcement system. Because of these efforts, Beverly Hills authorities were able to recognize the suspect’s plates and detain Powell at a traffic stop later that evening.

On Friday, city officials asked for the public’s help in identifying an individual they believe to be responsible for the murder of three homeless individuals in the Los Angeles area.

The series of homicides began on Sunday, Nov. 26 in South LA, with the second on Monday, Nov. 27 in downtown Los Angeles, and the third murder on Wednesday, Nov. 29 in Lincoln Heights.

Officials identified two of those killed in this string of murders as Jose Bolanos and Mark Diggs. Police are withholding the identity of the third victim while next of kin is notified. All three victims were experiencing homelessness at the time of the murders, according to police.

Police said they believe that each victim was alone when the suspect approached them and that each was shot and killed in their sleep.

On Friday, officials deployed extra resources to aid in the protection of LA’s unhoused community and the manhunt of the suspect. A winter shelter program was activated Friday to provide additional safety for unhoused individuals.

“Many friends and family members know how to reach their unhoused relatives. We need you to contact them today,” said LA Mayor Karen Bass in Friday’s press conference. “We need you to tell them about this danger. We need you to tell them that they should not be alone tonight. That shelters will be open.”

Authorities have not yet released a motive for these homicides. The investigation is still ongoing.

Matthew Zakrzewski Sentenced To 705 Years in Prison

Matthew Zakrzewski

Matthew Zakrzewski is a convicted sex offender from California who was just sentenced to 705 years in prison for the molestation of sixteen boys

According to court documents Matthew Zakrzewski who ran a website called Sitter Buddy and worked as a male nanny was convicted of sexually assaulting sixteen boys aged 2 to 12 years old and for showing another child pornography. According to authorities not only did Matthew Zakrzewski assault the children he would also film the assaults

Matthew Zakrzewski was convicted of a host of sexual related charges and received the stunning seven hundred and five years in prison ensuring he will never get out of prison

Matthew Zakrzewski Case

A male nanny in California who advertised himself on his website as “the original Sitter Buddy” has been sentenced to 705 years to life plus two years and eight months for molesting 16 boys, ages 2 to 12, under his care and showing pornography to a 17th boy.

Matthew Antonio Zakrzewski, 34, was sentenced this week, prosecutors in Orange County said in a news release.

Parents gave emotional victim impact statements, expressed outrage at his deception and compared Zakrzewski to an animal, prosecutors said.

From a statement, Matthew Zakrzewski said he prided himself on “bringing smiles to your children, and all the good times we shared were 100% genuine” as weeping parents covered their ears.

On his “Sitter Buddy” website, Matthew Zakrzewski advertised himself as a “manny” — for male nanny — offering overnight and vacation babysitting services, mentorships, and big brother relationships, authorities said.

“In the eighth grade I discovered what a joy it was to work with children and be a positive impact in their lives through my school’s ‘Buddy Program,’” prosecutors said he posted.

But Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer says he was a “monster disguised by smiles and giggles” engaged in the most horrific and calculated manipulation to ensure he would continue to have access to children.

The first case came to light in May 2019 when a couple who’d hired Zakrzewski through one of his websites had touched their 8-year-old son inappropriately, prosecutors said.

A police investigation uncovered 11 other victims across Southern California dating to 2014.

He was arrested in 2019 at an airport while getting off an international flight.

He was convicted of 34 felonies, including lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14, oral copulation of a child under the age of 10, possession of child pornography, using a minor for sex acts, distributing pornography to a minor for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct, and attempted lewd or lascivious act with a minor under the age of 14, authorities said.

“This is a case of shattered innocence and precious childhoods that were robbed from 17 little boys,” said Spitzer. “These children will never know the people they were truly intended to be — because their childhoods were suddenly and inexplicably interrupted not by a wolf at the door, but by a predator masquerading as godsend. Children are not born knowing how to lie, but this master manipulator taught these very young children to lie — and to keep secrets from their own parents.

“These innocent little boys must bear a lifetime of trauma, and their parents will bear a lifetime of pain, knowing that they put their precious children in the arms of an animal because they believed who he said he was,” he added. “But that was a lie. He had no interest in protecting these children; his only interest was in preying on their innocence and filming the assaults for his sick sexual gratification. We cannot undo the trauma inflicted so unnecessarily on these children, but we can do everything we can to help support these families as they try to put back together the broken pieces of their children.”

Emily Reznick Murders Mother

Emily Reznick

Emily Reznick was a fifteen year old living in California when this teen killer would murder her mother. According to court documents Emily Reznick and her boyfriend Nikolai Thorn Roach would plan the murder of her mother 54-year-old Michelle Louise Taylor.

Emily Reznick would stab her mother repeatedly with a knife she dubbed Buddy Buck. When arrested Emily told police that her mother had physically abused her and the killing was in self defense however this story would soon fall apart

Emily Reznick whose middle name is Evil would be found guilty and will spend til the age of 25 in secure custody youth facility. Nikolai Thorn Roach would receive the same sentence.

Emily Reznick News

A 16-year-old California girl will spend nearly a decade behind bars after admitting that she killed her mother last year after hatching the plan with her boyfriend and using a knife she had nicknamed “Buddy Buck.

Kern County Superior Court Judge Wendy Avila on Wednesday ordered Emily Evil Reznick to remain in a secure youth facility until she turns 25 for the July 2022 murder of her mother, 54-year-old Michelle Louise Taylor, authorities confirmed to Law&Crime.

Because Reznick was only 15 at the time of the slaying, she could not be charged as an adult in the Golden State. The California Supreme Court in 2019 unanimously upheld a state law requiring all defendants under the age of 16 to be tried in juvenile court, where convicted offenders can not be incarcerated beyond age 25.

“You haven’t even begun to comprehend the magnitude of what you’ve done,” Avila told Reznick during a Wednesday hearing, according to a report from Bakersfield NBC affiliate KGET-TV. “Your mother was your victim.”

Judge Avila also reportedly castigated Reznick for her lack of remorse, recounting conversations the teen had about killing her mother and saying she spoke about her like she was not even “a real human being.”

“The minor’s disregard for human life and her ability to commit this crime is deeply troubling to this court,” Avila reportedly said during the hearing.

Reznick’s boyfriend, Nikolai Thorn Roach, earlier this month also pleaded guilty to charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Judge Avila similarly sentenced him to remain in custody for Taylor’s “premeditated and gruesome” murder until he turns 25, Brownsville NBC affiliate KVEO-TV reported.

During Wednesday’s dispositional hearing, Assistant Kern County District Attorney Christine Antonios told the court that Reznick and Roach spent about a month planning Taylor’s murder, and prosecutors had the texts to prove it, according to KGET.

The texts reportedly showed Reznick telling Roach when to come to the house and what he should wear, while also touching on getaway plans and alibis. Messages also reportedly showed that Reznick had named the murder weapon, using the moniker “Buddy Buck” to refer to the knife she used to fatally stab Taylor multiple times.

The young couple also debated whether they should kill Taylor’s live-in boyfriend, Antonios reportedly said. In the immediate aftermath of the stabbing, Reznick reportedly told friends that she thought Taylor’s live-in boyfriend may have been the one who killed her. She also suggested that her mother may have taken her own life, KGET reported.

Following her arrest, Emily Reznick — who has said she was abused by her mother for much of her life — told police she was acting in self-defense, but the aforementioned text messages belied that claim.

Police on July 7, 2022 responded to a 911 call from a home located on Arthur Avenue in Oildale, just over 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The caller was later identified as Taylor’s live-in boyfriend, who was the first person to find her.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found Taylor unresponsive and suffering from what appeared to be several stab wounds.

Emily Reznick and Roach were arrested the following day. While the young couple was in the back of a police vehicle equipped with a recording device, Reznick blamed her mom’s boyfriend for wrecking their plans, KGET reported.

In a grimly prescient move, she also reportedly told Roach that he shouldn’t be worried because they were both only 15 and would only be sent to “kid prison” for a little while.

Jade Janks Sentenced To Life Over Nude Photos Murder

jade janks

Jade Janks would murder her stepfather Thomas Merriman after discovering that he kept nude photos of her has learned how long she will spend in prison. According to court documents Jade Janks discovered that Thomas Merriman had nude photos of her as a teenager on his computer and was rightfully upset. However her way to deal with the betrayl was to murder her stepfather.

Jade Janks would give Thomas Merriman whiskey which was spiked with Ambien before strangling her stepfather. Thomas Merriman cause of death was determined to be acute intoxication by Ambien. His body would be discovered underneath a pile of garbage bags.

Jade Janks lawyers would attempt to justify her actions calling her stepfather a predator who kept hundreds of nude photos of her. However in the end the jury would find her guilty. Now Jade Janks has learned that she will spend life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years

Jade Janks More News

A Solana Beach, California woman who was convicted of drugging and strangling her stepfather to death after discovering a trove of nude pictures of herself in his possession was sentenced last week.

Jade Janks, 39, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years on Monday in the 2020 slaying of her 64-year-old stepfather, Thomas Merriman, San Diego television station KNSD reported. A jury found her guilty of first-degree murder in December.

On Jan. 2, 2021, police found Merriman, who co-founded a non-profit butterfly sanctuary, dead underneath bags of garbage in the driveway of their home. An autopsy revealed that Merriman died from acute intoxication by Ambien, The Coast News Group reported at the time.

According to Jade Janks, who testified on her own behalf at trial, she’d supplied her stepfather with whisky, fatally choked him and cut off his oxygen supply after discovering a series of illicit photographs of her as a teen on his computer while cleaning his home. The photos, which numbered in the hundreds, depicted Janks having consensual sex with a former boyfriend from years earlier.

During her sentencing, Janks, who at times became emotional, said Merriman was a serial predator.

“Tom came into my life when I was just a little girl and exerted influence during that early stage of development when I was just figuring things out,” Janks said. “Unfortunately that influence manifested itself into inappropriate touch, coercion, reckless behavior, and complete violation as what I now realize years of psychological manipulation. All of this came crashing down on me when I noticed hundreds of naked photos of myself on his computer and felt shattered.”

Janks also accused the late 64-year-old of having inappropriate contact with her when she was a minor.

“I’m still picking up the pieces and it’s my sincerest hope that over the next few years I can put the pieces back and heal from this trauma,” she added. “I’m sorry I didn’t act the way I was supposed to. I think about it every day since.”

Janks, who remained defiant that she was a victim in the case in her court address, also offered a partial apology to Merriman’s family.

“I understand you hate me for what you believe I did to Tom,” Janks told the court. “However, there’s a lot more than you will ever understand.”

Janks’ defense team, who also acknowledged her troubled childhood, echoing her claims that she’d been victimized by Merriman as a young girl, insisted she wasn’t guilty of murder.

“Something happened on this evening and it had a lot to do with her relationship with the victim,” attorney Marc Carlos said. “There is a lot of trauma in Jade Janks’ early life — we have outlined that in our sentencing memorandum to the court. There was some conduct between the victim and Ms. Janks in her teens — early teens. As well as some incidents that occurred after that. And those were the factors that basically went into play on the evening that Mr. Merriman died.”

Janks’ lawyers have vowed to appeal the sentence.

“Ms. Janks reacted in a way that was completely outside the way she would normally act,” her lawyers added. “She had, as the court is aware, she had family members that she could have called; she had lawyers that she could have called; there’s all kinds of people she could have called, however, she panicked under this reaction to the trauma that she had. And, as a result, she did things that made her appear to be complicit in the death of Mr. Merriman.”

In court, Janks’ father also referred to Merriman as a “sick, perverted individual,” according to Law&Crime.

Prosecutors, however, had maintained Janks was “beyond freaked out” after discovering the nude photographs on Merriman’s computer, stating that Janks plotted to kill her stepfather by making his death appear as an overdose. They accused Janks of suffocating Merriman using a plastic bag.

Numerous family and loved ones of Merriman spoke up on his behalf at Janks’ sentencing as well. Many called for the judge to impose a stiff punishment — and some discounted Janks’ account of the Dec. 31, 2020 killing altogether.

“I don’t believe the negative statements the murderer made about Tom,” one person stated in a victim impact statement. “I don’t believe she murdered him for the reasons she said she did. It’s a killer’s word against his. And he’s not here to defend himself.”
