A 23-year-old man is facing murder charges after a deadly shooting at a New Hampshire country club on Saturday.
According to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, Hunter Nadeau, 23, is accused of fatally shooting 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare with a handgun at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua on Saturday night.
Authorities say there is no known connection between Nadeau and DeCesare.
Nadeau also shot and wounded two other adults. Their conditions have not been released.
Initial police reports indicated that two suspects had fled the scene. However, after reviewing surveillance footage, investigators confirmed that there was only one shooter.
Boston 25 News Reporter Michael Raimondi spoke with local resident Tyler Holmes, who had just arrived home with his wife and two-year-old son when they heard gunfire nearby.
“We could hear gunshots from our house,” Holmes said. “I heard quite a few at first. Didn’t hear any for a while, then heard a few more. It was mostly the ambulances and sirens I heard.”
Nashua Mayor James Donchess called the incident a tragedy for the community.
“In a community like ours, this is a big tragedy that there would be such an incident,” Mayor Donchess said. “Thinking about the families that were affected, and for us, it’s sad that it happened in our community.”
Nadeau has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, with additional charges likely, according to the Attorney General’s Office, in connection with the other shooting victims.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua.

A man was charged with second-degree murder after a shooting Saturday night at a country club in Nashua in which one person was killed and several other people were injured, some while trying to flee the chaotic scene.
The Attorney General’s Office said Hunter Nadeau, 23, allegedly shot and killed Robert DeCesare, 59, in an attack at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua.
Investigators said DeCesare show and wounded two other people, while several other people suffered other injuries as they tried to flee.
A woman who spoke to WMUR’s sister station WCVB on Saturday night at the Nashua Police Department identified herself as DeCesare’s mother. Evie O’Rourke said her son jumped in front of his wife and daughter to protect them
“He kicked the door open, and Rob just went right for him and protected his family” O’Rourke said. “We don’t know any information more about it other than they have arrested him, but boy, is he going to be missed. He’s just a great guy.”
Law enforcement officers from more than a dozen communities in New Hampshire and Massachusetts responded to the scene when calls about the shooting came in at about 7:30 p.m. In audio obtained by News 9 from Broadcastify.com, dispatchers can be heard alerting police that someone had been shot in the face.
“It’s so shocking that we just can’t believe it. We think everybody’s lying. This can’t have happened,” O’Rourke said. “They were just enjoying a meal at their country club, and in comes the guy, shot the maître d, and it was right in front of him. And I guess he died right there.
More than 100 people were at the country club at the time of the shooting. According to the Attorney General’s Office, Nadeau allegedly entered the country club last night and started shooting with a handgun.
DeCesare lives at Sky Meadow and was dining there with this family when the shooting occurred. Two other people were also shot, and their conditions have not been released.
His thought was to take care of his family,” O’Rourke said. “And his daughter’s getting married in six weeks, so it’s going to be very tough.”
Police said a number of other people were injured during the chaos, but the full number of injuries is not clear. They said some victim might have taken themselves to a nearby fire station.
Nadeau was detained at the scene. Police originally thought that there might have been another suspect, but they later confirmed there was only one shooter.
Investigators said Nadeau will likely face other charges.
There is no known connection between the victim and the shooter, police said.
“It looked like a target, that he was going right for this person,” said witness Tom Bartelson. “I feel terrible for him.”
Bartelson said Nadeau was saying things during the shooting.
“He just came out and said, ‘The children are safe,’ and, ‘Free Palestine,'” Bartelson said.
Sources told News 9 Investigates that police were looking for a Toyota RAV4 that may be connected to the shooter. A vehicle fitting that description was seen being towed away near the scene late Saturday night.
The Attorney General’s Office said it can’t share any possible motive. Nadeau is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
